  • Worth it!
I spent over a month reviewing gaming laptops. I came from an XPS 15 9530 with a 750M GT that I used for over 5 years and served me well. While I could game on it, I had to compromise on video settings. I wanted a laptop that could handle today's games on their highest settings, but still be used for work and school. I had narrowed it down to the Alienware M15, MSI GS65, and the Razer Blade 15 Advanced. I ended up going with the Razer Blade 15 Advanced with the RTX 2080 MQ, Intel 9750H six core processor and FHD 240 hz display. I have been using it for over a month and am very happy with my decision. First off, the build quality is amazing. The aluminum chassis is solid, and it looks and feels like a premium laptop. It is a fingerprint magnet, which I knew already from my research, so I ended up skinning it. The wrist rest and keyboard area still get fingerprints, but they are easily cleaned with a cloth. Next is the display. The screen on this laptop is amazing. My previous laptop had a 4k, 60 hz display which I thought looked amazing. The 1080p display looks good (not as nice as the 4k), but going from 60 hz to 240 hz is a game changer. Games look and play really smooth, I haven't had any screen tearing, and even scrolling through websites looks and feels better. The matte display is also nice, not so many reflections like on my previous laptop. Performance on this thing is also really good. I am able to play all the games I usually play (Black Ops 4, Rocket league, Starcraft 2, Overwatch, and Civilization VI) at ultra settings with no lag and consistent frame rates of 100 or more. I am looking for games to buy to see how they will run on my laptop. I have not tried any ray-tracing yet. Temperatures are pretty good as well. The graphics card normally hovers at around 76 C. The processor did run a little bit hot, going between 90-97C, so I decided to undervolt it by .125 using Throttlestop and now the processor does not go past 90C. The wrist rest will get warm, but never uncomfortably warm (understanding this is subjective). The bottom and the strip right above the keyboard does get extremely hot when gaming, so you have to be careful. While am doing regular productivity work, or just surfing the internet the laptop remains cool, and I can use this it on my lap. Fan noise can get pretty loud when gaming, but the speakers get loud enough so you can hear the game sounds over the fans. The speakers are very clear and sound really good for a laptop. The keyboard is really good, but if you have looked at other reviews online then you know this is also very subjective. My XPS had a similar keyboard with a little more travel than the Razer, but not so much that I notice a huge difference. What is really awesome is the per key RGB lighting on this keyboard. You have unlimited ways of customizing the colors, or can use some of the preset effects. I use the fire setting exclusively, which is is orange and reds that flicker on the keys giving the illusion of a fire. I have had no issues with coil whine. I did have some BSOD problems when I first got the laptop, but after researching online I found there was an issue with one of the NVIDIA drivers. Once I updated the driver the issue disappeared. Battery life is pretty good as well. I can use it 5-6 hours before having to charge it, which is enough to get me through the day. Overall I am very happy with my purchase. I was worried about spending this much money on a laptop, but having now used this for over a month, and seeing how well it performs given its form factor, I do not regret buying this. While I know there are other laptops out there that are more powerful, and have more RAM and storage than the Razer for the same amount of money or less, none of them had the form factor and style that I was looking for. ... show more

  • is it a gaming laptop?
Update: it's January of 2020, it has been few months, I have used and abused this laptop. I love it. I will give it one more star. it doesn't disappoint. Still not happy about international warranty, battery power and that I can't be charged in an airplane. But I would buy it again if time goes back. ////////////////////////// I wanted to have a portable gaming laptop to use while travelling. And in many ways the Razer Balde 15 doesn't disappoint. However, nothing without cavity; the good: Let's start by talking about the good points of this laptop. First it's a really powerful gaming laptop with nice gaming LCD screen with very high refresh rate. the keyboard has very good feeling to it. The build quality is strong and charming. And I believe it is the slimmest gaming laptop in the market, I'm used to Mac laptops so I assure you of its premium built quality. The sound is very good, you can enjoy your games with the built in sound even if the laptop was closed when using external monitor. There is a game port that makes your game run beautiful on external monitor. The GPU is very powerful for this size, it eat everything I through at it. The Bad: The power brick is huge and it takes a lot out of the charm of the laptop. The power brick doesn't work on Airplanes, it draws too much watts to be operational in airplane. so your laptop is useless in a long flight. combining the power brick with the laptop and you will get a heavy bag to carry, which force me to think twice every time I want to use it outside of my home. In fact I still bought an iPad Pro mainly because of this. You are forced to buy 240hz screen when the power of the GPU never can achieve. where is the 140Hz which is suffice enough gone ? The screen is full HD which is nice for movies and games, but very pixelated (outdated) for normal everyday laptop use. The power prick use non standard connection, so you can't use USB to charger it. the HDMI is not good for games, although I need to test this further to be sure. The ugly: it's expensive laptop, very good for games but it's not the only option in the market if you do a proper research. I contacted Razer for the extended warranty and they refuse to give it to me unless I live in the USA, I have ordered this laptop for use in the UAE. so if your are an International buyer you may need to think about this. it's really heavy to be called a laptop, it's actually a small desktop in my opinion (but to be fair, so does other gaming laptops), so if you are not planning to use it while traveling skip it and with the same amount of money you can have much stronger desktop for games and normal daily use. All in all, I still think it is one of the best gaming laptops in the market. If you are really looking for portable gaming go for it, else don't buy it. I hope my short review was helpful. sorry of the typos. ... show more

  • Great Laptop For Medium Users
So this is probably my fifth gaming laptop I have ever purchased. I purchased the Advanced model with 240H and the 2080 Max-Q. PROS: The laptop is able to run everything on ultra, this includes Escape from Tarkov, PUBG, Star Citizen, Morhau, etc... I have not had any issues as of yet with heat, ironically the heat distribution has been a pleasant surprise even with extended gaming use. I love that this has extra USB ports and can be coupled with the Razer RGB Stand with three extra USB outlets, which works great for the fans to reduce heat. It can be warm to the touch, but nothing like the Razer 13.3" with a EGPU, or a ACER Predator which has huge heat issues. Fan is not noticeable when running, probably due to the three inlets/outlets it has. CONS: No Ethernet port, I would much rather connect directly to the laptop versus through a USB port utilizing a Ethernet attachment. Worth the money personally if you can get it for $2100 or less. If you can't get an Amazon Warehouse deal for that much, wait for the price to be reduced and look for extra deals after that. It is not worth the current going prices of $2500-$2900, that is astronomically high compared to other models, but hey this thing doesn't overheat like other laptops do when gaming. ... show more
