  • Barracuda X 2021 Wireless 2.4ghz Gaming Headset Review
Color: Mercury Style: Headset
• |Design & Comfort| Starting off these weigh in at 250G which is considered very lightweight when you consider the majority of headsets on the market are 300G+ Units!!! I love how these are much more understating in the design when compared with most brands. These do not scream "Gamer" from 20 feet away like some headsets on the market which is something I welcome & would be great for trips or commutes. They come in 3 colors (black, white, & pink) the plastics used here are extremely recycled & thin feeling which is probably how they achieve this weight. However during my time with the headset they never snapped or cracked it's just something to be aware of. The earcups are mesh fabric w/ breathable memory foam that fit my ears decently but they do make contact with the edges of my ears slightly (I have average sized ears). Top of the head padding feels okay during use but looks like it was cheaply glued on and has noticeable gaps. Only time will tell if the glue or whatever is holding the head padding on will give, but the fake leather on it will definitely tear or puncture quick being that it is super thin. Overall they are still very comfortable to wear for long periods of time and most people should not have a problem with them! The hinge is reverse compared to most models of headphones, so they do lay flat but the plastic cup side will be resting on your collar bone inversely to traditional headphones with swivel flat hinges. If you love to lay your headphones around your neck flat when not in use just be conscious of the minor discomfort induced by the reverse swivel design. The detachable boom microphone wind screen(pop filter) on this thing is massive. You will see the giant fuzzy windscreen in your peripheral vision while gaming but its also not a deal breaker just definitely one of the biggest pop filters I've ever seen on a gaming headset! Volume slider feels a little low quality, it has side to side play and slightly contacts one side of the wheel. I would say this volume wheel feels very similar to a Steel Series Arctis headset which is a very low quality wheel when compared to other headsets in this price range like Corsair HS70 Pros or Virtuoso offerings. Mute & power buttons are adequate. USB-C Charging & A 3.5mm headphone jack that I love to see for wired mode with compatible devices. I will say it performed amazingly during testing on a Audio interface and is a pleasure to see included here! Comes packaged with a USB-C 2.4ghz wireless dongle & a Usb-c female to A male cable. I would have also liked to see a USB-C to A low profile adapter so the cable doesn't have to hangout or be wrapped up behind pc builds. As a nit pick I would have loved to see the volume, charge port, & 3.5mm on the right ear cup. • |Battery Life & Range| This supports USB-C charging and should maintain a battery life of up to 20Hrs in wireless mode. In my testing it held battery great & charged full, I was never left drained after hours of gaming & it's useable while charging so no worries there! Now for the amazing part, this headset's range is incredible!!! I mean one of the best I've tested. I was able to walk anywhere in my two story condo without drop outs and could even walk out to my car. I would estimate the range being over 120ft which is absolutely lovely & on par with the Arctis 7X+ that I have tested. Conversely the Corsair Virtuoso and HSpro line of headsets I tested only like to make it about 30ft maximum from the 2.4ghz adapter which is unacceptable. If range is at the top of your priority list consider this headset. • |Sound Quality & Compatibility| I actually really like how these 40MM triforce drivers sound they are by no means super high end but they still have a decent soundstage! Out of the box they sound good treble & mids are acceptable bass is very prevalent but not over the top! With different cushions I'm sure you could make the bass louder with a tighter seal. However these are aimed toward gaming & do a great job at that! I can hear footsteps much easier with these than some other similarly priced headsets! Testing with music I ran the gamut of (metal, rap, rock, edm, etc) all of which sounded acceptable ... again not the best but not bad by any means. Youtube and movies / general content is amazing with these and I was never once wishing I had my studio headphones on. There is no noise canceling on board like on the similarly looking Razer Opus model but for this price point it is to be expected. Overall I like the volume levels and audio quality experience better on this headset than my Arctis headsets. I always feel like the Arctis series needs to be boosted by EQ or gain. Never once did I get static or dropouts on my audio which is exceptional for wireless gaming headsets these days. The microphone is detachable & sounds very good and I would say is just right behind the virtuoso line of mics but definitely better than steel series. These are not razer synapse compatible so if you love to tweak EQ Via applications on your headsets look at the 2022 version of these which also include more battery life, bluetooth mode & are compatible with razers synapse application. Some people do not like razer software on their PC so this is a pro or con and is subjective from person to person. These function wirelessly with PC, PS5, Switch & Android (Xbox wired 3.5mm only). Would have loved to see these work with XBOX in wireless mode just like the Arctis 7X+ achieves on all platforms. • |Final Verdict| This headset has great sound via the triforce 40mm drivers an acceptable quality microphone , 20hr battery & is compatible with a wide range of devices. The mobility, comfort and convenience alone of these are very nice. Build quality is sub-par and would like to see it addressed in future models but overall this headset is a winner! If you're extra careful with it, it should last a long time & you should have no comfort issues gaming with this headset on for hours at a time. As I am writing this review in 2022 quite a few headsets have popped up onto the market including the newer version of this headset that I mentioned before. However they have tactically dropped the price on the 2021 model to $69 as of writing this review making it a great budget option. If you have a slightly higher budget just opt for the Barracuda X 2022 model. At $99 you get 50 hours battery, bluetooth and synapse compatibility to customize EQ. ... show more

  • Good sound, quiet mic on wireless, best deal at 50 dollars
Color: Classic Black Style: Headset
As it says in the title, this is a very good set of headphones for its price when you buy it $50 or less, but at $100 it's actually not very good. I ended up buying this because I was looking for headsets and figured that buying a Razer product must mean it is decent. Thankfully I was not wrong in my estimation. The base is very good and very punchy, this headset is very light, it's great to travel with, and generally speaking I've had very few issues with it. The microphone is a little bit quiet, however this is alleviated either by software, or by using it wired. I don't understand why Razer made the microphone so quiet, at least on wireless. Also, there was nearly no hiss with no sound playing on this set that I received, and I have very sensitive ears, so that's another plus to these. USB C charging should be a given in the current year, but it isn't, this headset charges using USB C. You can enable surround sound using built-in software or you can download the manufacturer's software I believe. The shape of the receiver is not conducive to using this with a MacBook or other laptop with USB-C ports that are close to each other. Given how exposed the headset wires are, I do have some questions about longevity but we will see. I've had these for a little while now and I've enjoyed using them aside from the ear cuffs. These are a tad small, but they fit fine, however, after long sessions I do find that the ear cuffs rub against my skin and make it feel a little uncomfortable. Pros: >Razer >No RGB >Folds for travel, extremely light >BT, USB 2.4 wireless, wired >15+hr battery life >USB C charging >Good bass and volume for 40mm drivers >Mic works well in Discord and phone calls >Fits huge heads >Best value for a name brand at 50 dollars Cons: >Lack of customizable fitting >Ear cuffs can be uncomfortable to some after prolonged use >Not a good deal at 100 dollars >Mic quiet on wireless (SW makes up for this) >Build quality is a little questionable >Ear cuffs seem a little cramped to me Basically, if you get this reconditioned or on sale for under $50, I wouldn't go for anything else. This seems to fit the bill and on top of that, it's a reputable brand. ... show more
