Top Amazon Reviews

🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The Redcat Rampage truck is widely regarded as a fun, resilient RC vehicle with low center of gravity and a penchant for all types of challenging terrains. These RCs are built with power, and while some users have reported needing to replace certain parts like the spark plug and throttle servos for better performance, the general consensus is that this product's pros far outweigh its cons. Additionally, the product is seen as a great value for its price point – and with its sheer size and speed, it's not recommended for children.

Pros

  • 🚀 Strong performance on various terrains, including snow and mud
  • 💪 Durable and very upgradable, it's a long-lasting machine
  • 🔋 Good runtime per tank (Large 700cc tank)
  • 👍 Ready to run right out of the box

Cons

  • 🔧 May require some tinkering and part replacement (e.g., spark plug, servo) for optimal performance
  • 🪛 Some users reported loose bolts/screws and other parts
  • 💧 Problems with fuel cap venting reported causing running issues
  • 📦 Some reports of packaging mishandling

Should I Buy It?

Yes, if you're a hobbyist who enjoys a bit of tinkering, are okay with potentially replacing a few parts, and want an RC vehicle that offers amazing performance for the money. The setbacks can be rectified with some upgrades and the truck itself grants hours of pure fun and thrill.

  • Amazing RC! but.... THROW AWAY THE SPARK PLUG GET A THE NGK!
Goes through anything... Fun in snow, mud, it will drift on tar, for a monster truck it center of gravity is very low... So it is build like a truggy! Doesn't flip over Turning! When you receive your truck go throw its and make sure everything is tight and nothing is binding. Here is some tricks THROW AWAY THE SPARK PLUG THAT COMES WITH IT!!! That's right if it doesn't start, witch it eventually won't, throw away the cheap Chinese spark plug and get a NGK CMR7H, I picked 2 up at a Autoparts store and have only used one all year. After I installed the NGK one it starts every time even with 10 month old gas! I could even see a performance increase with just getting rid of that crap plug they give you. If you read all the redcat rampages bad review it was always that it couldn't start! The plug is the reason why! (Even if you crank it over with the plug out looking for spark you will see spark but it's not enough that's what confuses people, it took me a little while to figure it out too) Second yes you will break things on it, it is a 40-50lb monster truck made with plastic parts, unless you drive like a wimp you will break something. Every part of this truck is avalie in aluminum, but beware of makeing everything aluminum, you won't some give in certain places so you don't break more expensive parts! Third plastic body breaks. You have to put some type of foam between body and posts or big jumps will destroy the body! Forth servos are called 1/5 or 1/4 size I forget, yes they are big but 1/5 or 1/4 aftermarket do not fit, with is the same but length is shorter! You will need to customize if you want different servos, wasn't that hard if you know how to tinker! I have waited a year before I reviewed this truck because things did break! Some were my fault some wasn't directly my fault, So I didn't want to write a review mad like everyone else... It is a RC thing always break and fall apart. The ones that you can't keep from breaking and there are no upgrades for are junk, this rampage is very upgradable, and everything I have upgraded has fix my problem. P.S. Most break is fault of driver, minus servos ect..., but what do you expect from something half the price of losi's, tip is don't jump truck on tar or concrete duh, my fault, and beware of curbs as they don't move when hit! P.P.S If you don't like tinkering with things go play with Barbie dolls, don't get into RCs period they all need work! I'm sick of seeing these winy review about how 1 thing happened and they can't get over it and send it back! ITS NOT THE RCs FAULT (most of the time) ITs THE HOBBY ITSELF! I have had my fear shere of junk... This one is fine just takes some customizing. I have even heard people never replacing anything on this truck! How? I don't know I like beating the crap out of everything! If it's not broken when your done you weren't playing with it right! (Not really) lmao! AWSOME TRUCK BE CARFULL YOU CAM BREAK SOMEONES LEGS! No joke! ... show more

Received the package in cardboard box. The package showed some mishandling maybe due to shipment from China. The truck was intact so I was relieved. All tires were packages in separate box. I recharged the receiver battery using SkyRC Imax B6 and ran 3 tanks of premium gasoline with 2 cycle oil recommended ratio for engine break in. Pull starting engine is much easier with fuel cap unscrewed and re-tighten when the engine starts. Typical pull of 7-10 seems to do the job. Good: No messing around with the truck alignment and engine settings. True Ready to Run truck right out of box. Large 700cc tank is great for hours of fun driving the truck. Solid driving in straight path without too much over steering. 1/5 feels heavy and looks sturdy with rollbar all around so looks sleek even with body off. Not so good: The rubber hose that connects exhaust tube broke similar to other reviewer. The screws that holds muffler to engine came loose. This may need some blue locktight. The bumpers seems a bit weak. Would be nicer if the bars were little more stiffer. Two of the E clips that holds the tie got loose during operation and lost in the field. I need to get a replacement. Overall I like the truck with its massive tires, solid body, and gasoline engine for long hours of fun I am already thinking of putting FPV on top of the truck and going for a long drive. ... show more

  • Love it
Just bought this truck and it is amazing. The truck is very big and very fast. I'm not RC expert but I'm in love with the truck. Pretty expensive but worth the money. I've bought anywhere from 8-10 battery powered RCs for my kids in the last couple years at a price of $50 - $100. Compare those prices to the price of this and you have a reason to buy it. Remember to tighten bolts upon arrival and also after first few runs. I would get the spare stainless steel screw kit because you will lose a few. I love this truck and my kids play with it and are very easy on the throttle. I know users refer to it breaking and I'm not surprised with the speed and size. This truck is a beast. You won't be disappointed. UPDATE 4/12/2016 - Get yourself a quality spark plug like NGK - The bolts that attach to the steering rods near the base of the frame will come out due to the constant twisting when turning. They will need to be put on using loctite. - When starting and low on fuel you may have to loosen the gas cap to allow the carb to suck some gas through and then tighten the cap back up. Or just make sure there more than a quarter of tank when starting. UPDATE 5/6/2016 -My Redcat started pulsing while running and not staying started. I was about to buy a new carb and/or rebuild the original when I red a forum that informed me to try loosening the gas tank. That worked, so avoid tuning if there are running issues until after you ensure that they tank is venting correctly. ... show more

  • This is a beast when set up right.
It was just as I suspected it to be,it's definitely not for kids and for the size of it the truck goes pretty fast. This is not my first gas rc and it probably won't be my last. I seen where some said that it was junk because of things breaking on it but I guess they didn't read the instructions.

  • Shocks not covered by warranty
Drill holes in rear body for exhaust. Replace throttle servo before use with 25kg. REPLACE sparkplug with ngk cmr7h. Buy aluminum rollcage. Buy Killswitch. Replace shocks with reservoir type. Optional upgrade list *Aluminum brace * Zenoah 31.8cc engine * Single hitec steering servo I bought this car hoping it would be durable but, already lost 2 shocks now. Replaced shocks with reservoir type. One of the original steering servos burned out. One of the two clutch pads wore out. It's a 30cc engine because, it's gutless compared to zenoah 31.8cc. ... show more
