  • Punches Above Its Weight - One Rad HT!
Color: Black
I am new to ham radio and have been trying new HTs. Lots of Baofengs, Retevis and HiRadio. The RadTel RT950 Pro had so many god reviews I was concerned they were artificial. I’m happy to report this unit has been fantastic! It has the very best screen I’ve seen on any of the budget friendly versions I’ve bought thus far. The antenna out of the box is okay but I put on a low cost18” Abbree and everything I’ve done thus far has worked extremely well. No issues at all picking up my local amateur repeater, audio is clear and the speaker is capable of putting out a lot of clear sound. The buttons all feel very solid. There is a nice weight to the unit. Did I mention the display is fantastic? The UI is very intuitive as well as the keys and layout. I love the dedicated A/B/C button. Tons of features I haven’t even tried yet, but this is already my favorite handheld. If you’re on the fence, take the plunge! ... show more

  • Perfect shack-in-a-box handheld ham radio with phenomenal broadband receiver!
Color: Black
First, this review is from my perspective as a general-class amateur radio operator. I was looking for a good handheld radio that has a wide band receiver and good audio on transmit, and really liked the reviews on this radio. I have used this radio for local 2 meter repeaters, split frequency 2 meter / 70 centimeter amateur radio satellite work with a homemade tape-measure-and-pvc Yagi antenna, and HF / shortwave listening by adding a length of bell wire to the bottom of the SMA connector (basically using the antenna as a screw terminal). This radio has handled everything I have thrown at it and come back for more! Granted it is not as rugged or polished as other brands, but the manufacturer is continually adding new features through firmware updates, and the programming and updating processes are dirt simple if you have programmed HT ham radios before. So far I have spoken on the local repeater, held conversations from Texas to New England through satellites, listened to CW from around the world (did I mention it has a dedicated CW mode??), used the spectrum scope to find adjacent frequencies in use, listened to AM and FM broadcasts, listened to incoming and outgoing aircraft at my local airport on the airband receiver, listened to local public safety radio chatter on my way home from work, and found upper and lower sideband conversations between fellow amateur radio operators. Wideband receivers typically have poor selectivity (ability to filter out adjacent frequencies), but Radtel got this little shack-in-a-box perfect for someone like me. I look forward to seeing what future updates will bring! My personal wishlist for future updates to this radio based on my usage so far include: 1) A dedicated satellite mode with path display and automatic Doppler shift correction 2) A confirmation prompt before clearing the APRS station list (I’ve accidentally cleared it a couple of times) 3) Separate memories for SW / MW / LW frequencies in Radio mode 4) Built-in CW decoding 5) Ability to send APRS messages (right now it can but only as part of a beacon) All in all this is an amazing little radio and it has earned its place on my go-to shelf! ... show more

  • Pretty competent radio.
Color: Black
On the surface, it looks like this radio can do pretty much everything, and it kinda can. 1. APRS - It was easy to set up, and works well. 2. VHF/UHF - Good clarity and range. 3. Menu system - easy to navigate for a Chinese radio. 4. Spectrum Analyzer - Rudimentary for ham radio, but considering it's on a sub-$100 radio, pretty neat. 5. Out of band operation - The finals are only apparently designed to work in 2m/70cm. All the other bands are spoofed in software. If you only care about RX, it's fine. If you transmit, you're going to have a lot of spurious emissions, and tax the finals pretty hard. For the occasional TX, it's probably fine, but don't buy this radio expecting to use as a CB handheld. 6. Programming - The supplied software is pretty rough, but it gets the job done... So long as you don't mind hand-entering everything into the software. There are alpha versions of a chirp plugin that haven't bricked my radio yet. 7. Documentation - There isn't any. You'll need to look at Facebook groups, forums, etc. to figure out how to use the radio. Mfg documentation is essentially a quick start guide that doesn't really cover much. ... show more

  • radio is deaf, hardware flaws, don't believe the youtube schills like I did.
Color: Black
This is a pipe dream of a radio, sure it has all the trappings on paper but its a nightmare to program, its deaf on medium and long wave, and if you look around on the internet at user forums you will see even the most experienced folks are having problems. My serial number was low 800's and I gave up and returned it. The manufacturer is not putting out good hardware and there is no amount of soft or firmware that is going to fix it. This is a dream of a radio on paper but putting the rubber to the road it falls on its face. ... show more

  • Best radio (with all the features) for it's price!!!
Color: Black
Great radios for that price (sub $100). I always recommend changing the stock antenna. In this case, I recommend to invest on a triband antenna to maximize the radio's features. It's well build and rough feeling. The screen is great and can be seen right under sunlight. Currently not supported on CHIRP but expect that coming soon since there is a way to get to work with CHIRP but it requires some radio prgramming knowledge. Radio comes with a special programming cable. The manual isn't the best but anyone can find plenty videos on youtube with tutorials. Battery has 4 bars and (my battery) it drops one bar within the first 60 to 75 minutes of use but it doesn't drop another bar on the next 8 hours or so. Still haven't use it for more than 9-10 hours straight without charging. Radios with all the features as this one cost 3 times more. Radtel is coming with software updrades once a month. Check Radtel website for upgrades. I highly recommend this radio. ... show more
