Nice CB! It takes me back to the 70's. Great for emergency use and to check on road conditions. Not bad for "Smokie" spotting too! My favorite thing about this is it's portability. It just plugs in to the cigarette lighter. So easy. We have several four wheel drive vehicles that we like to take off road along with friends or family. When we get a good sized group and want to keep connected up we've tried several different communication devices. Years ago we mostly had CB radios. Then we got away from it and did small hand held radios. But then with the rise of cell phone usage we tried to switch over to that. But we found that some areas we're in don't get great cell service and inevitably we'd lose track of someone who didn't get the message that we were turning off a certain road. So now we're back to trying CB radios. I miss the old days when we would be off roading and we would let the kids have the mic. They would talk to their cousins on the radio and tell jokes or talk about what they were seeing. The favorite times were when the cows would be on the road and the kids would moo at them to get them to move. We hooked up a PA speaker so the sound would broadcast out the front of the engine compartment. We'll be having our annual off road trip in just a couple of weeks and so I hurried to get this ordered. We bought an easy antenna to go with this. It attaches with a strong magnet and then has the cable run through the window and to the radio. So this whole thing is super portable. So, no matter which car we take we can easily set this up. I'm excited to see how it performs in that kind of a situation. I'll be back to add details depending on what happens. ... show more

    • Great little radio, perfect for updating from old AM only
Modern CB's are significantly better than the old ones, as they now can operate in frequency modulation mode instead of just amplitude modulation. While on AM, this radio is no match for the professional level "big chrome" monster radios of the past- but this one offers FM, a variable color display, PA and small size. I have ham radio equipment from this brand and they've always represented a good value and work well. The same radio is available under other names, but this is a name of an established company that has support- so a great way to go. You'll need to provide your own antenna and PA speaker, but Amazon has a wide selection of antennae- and I chose a glass-mount which resembles the old school cell phone antennae of years ago. Glass mounts are probably the worst performing way to go, but I am not looking for max range since I'll use this radio on trips for traffic info or sometimes possibly when doing an off-road trip with people not equipped with GMRS. Even with the worst possible type of antenna, this radio made decent range and reports from others indicated clean and clear sound. While a mostly dead band, there's still some useful applications- and even the PA function can be quite useful. This radio is made well, performs well, and has support from this brand. I, for one, like having access to all the public bands when I do search and rescue- because you never know what everyone else may have. ... show more

It has been many years since I last used a CB radio, so I was very excited to fire this baby up. I was curious if this would be a good idea in today’s new electronics world with everyone glued to a cell phone and constantly on the internet. Well, after checking it out and using it awhile, I have to give it a big 10-4 good buddy. The CB world still exists and it provides communication and information that is inaccessible to a cell phone. The electronics of this CB are excellent. The sound is sharp and crisp and static type noise is very minimized. Noise reduction has come a long way from the early days. The display is bright, clear and big – making it easy to use on the road. It is really cool that you can set the background color for the display. The microphone is lightweight and easy to use, especially with the voice command option that can keep it hands-free. I haven’t had a chance to hook-up an exterior speaker yet, but it has a public address option. This should really come in handy. In addition, they have even included an AM/FM radio in the system. The set does not include an antenna. I can understand why they did not include one since there are so many options depending upon the vehicle and needs, etc.. But, it would have been nice if they has included a small portable antenna since this CB is set-up to be portable. Overall, I am glad I have this CB radio. This CB is pretty top shelf for the price. Easily the performance equal of "Big C" or "Big U". Sound quality was ok for AM mode, but honestly since 2021 the FCC has allowed "FM Mode", which this has. Sound quality on FM mode is much better than AM mode. It's not unlike the quality difference between regular AM radio and FM radio. Since this is a recent (2021) enactment, if your current CB is more than a few years old, chances are it doesn't support the new FM mode. You're definitely going to want to try it. I love the vari-color display, and it has an external speaker hookup that I'll probably never use. The only thing I wish was that it had a display on the mic, too. It's a small complaint. But even though, I have big praise for this small CB. And I can live without the display on the mic I suppose. All in all, this is a rock solid offering for the money, easily the value champ compared to the big brands. 5 stars. And "Radioddity" is perhaps the best brand name ever.
