I really liked this rack, so much so that I recently bought a front rack of the same make and similar style. However after a couple of seasons I’ve just found its Achilles heel - the aluminum mounting blocks that hold the front of the rack to the horizontal stays. One of them recently started rattling, and when I took a closer look I discovered the stainless screw had stripped the threads in one of the shallow aluminum blocks where it clamps onto the horizontal stay. It’s obviously a design flaw, as the aluminum block is too soft and the hole too shallow to withstand the clamping force needed to hold everything in place - it’s only about 4 threads engaging in the aluminum and over time it’s given out. Replacement parts come in a big kit that costs about half what the whole rack cost new. I’ll be looking for a replacement rack before I embark on any extended tours... ... show more
