When I first opened up the package, immediately my entire room smelled of a mixture of static electricity and warehouse chemicals. Incredibly nauseating. The instructions say to let it air out for approximately 2 days, but as I had nowhere to store it until the two days, I decided to throw it in the washing machine. I highly recommend washing it immediately upon opening, in fact, don’t open this anywhere indoors because the smell will take hours to dissipate. The picture above is the carpet after washing it on the delicate setting and gently tumble drying it on low heat for half an hour. Now, the carpet has a pleasant gentle odor of laundry detergent, and doesn’t make my skin feel almost oily when touching it. But don’t let the first couple of steps stop you from purchasing it. All the rug needs is a little TLC and it truly is an amazing bang for your buck. I did dock one star due to the fact that you can see gaps in the rug where there is no material covering it. It also could be a little thicker in the cushioning, but once again, amazing for the price. ... show more

Very soft. It’s not very heavy and does seem like it will fit in my top loader washing machine. Not sure about drying though as the “hairs” on it seem like they might matt if I dry it. Super cute too. I don’t believe it’ll be vacuum-able either. My dogs food pebbles got stuck in it pretty easily, so i’m sure dirt and hair will too. This is a soft nice-sized rug and the colors are vibrant. It was perfect for my great-granddaughter's play room. I gave 4 stars because she did have to let it air out about 3 days before using.
