  • Easy to assemble by one person, weakness is the 4 10-foot horizontal sections
Style: 6 Legs Color: Green
I had little difficulty assembling this Quictent 10' x 20' Upgraded Heavy-duty carport reinforced with 3 steel cables by myself. The instructions consist of drawings only -- and, these surely could be improved. STEP 1 does not even identify the various joiner hardware (A, B, C, and D) in the assembly drawing! It identifies "A", but none of the rest of the joiners are identified on the drawing. But, on the plus side, each major assembly part is clearly identified with a sticker. That is impressive. There is a parts list (identifying parts with drawings or with the labels/stickers). It was easy to make sure all parts were included. Yes-- all parts were accounted for. (There was one item that was shown in Parts List as a drawing, supposedly consisting of 4 pcs, that I couldn't make head nor tails of. The drawing of the part does not look like anything that I can identify. It is the last item listed in column 1 of the Parts List.) In order to get multiple 10' sections, pole #2 and pole #4 get connected together, repeatedly. This creates 6 ten-foot sections that get assembled using the connector parts. Poles #2 and #4 actually are supposed to twist together to create a stronger 10 ft section. But, the "twist" is a bit difficult to achieve. I found that the "twist" was achieved better after having assembled (or during assembly) into the connector parts. I noted, however, that after I thought the top portion was complete (with the canopy attached) some of the 10 ft sections seemed distorted. It turned out that the sections had become "untwisted" somehow. So, to get the pole sections "twisted" back fully I removed some of the bungee cords in order to free up the 10 ft section and get it straight enough to twist the two sections back together. The 6 ten-foot sections seem fairly strong, but I think that a better "twist" mechanism is warranted for connecting the two poles. Even though all sections are now "twisted" together, I see a bit of distortion caused by the pull of the bungee cords on the ten-foot sections. Not terrible, but noticeable. Overall, the car port seems very sturdy -- especially because it has the 3 steel cables. The company sells a less expensive version without the 3 steel cables. I recommend going with the stability that the steel cables provide. The 4 weight bags that are provided are good. But, they are smaller than others that are available online. I purchased a set of larger weight bags (probably hold twice as much weight as the ones that come with the car port.) I then used two of the 4 smaller weight bags that came with the unit to weigh down the two middle poles. So, I have weights on all 6 legs of the car port. I am mostly impressed by the quality of the unit and by the sturdiness of the assembled product. Aside from the few small items mentioned above, I do recommend this unit. ... show more

  • Better than expected in the wind but for assembly important to know...
Style: 6 Legs Color: Blue
Our mom’s place is older and never had a garage built back in the day. It wasn’t really a big problem until the past few years with the weather not being what it used to be. The carport I wanted to get her due to shipping issues would have taken over a year and even with that no promises. So to get something up now I ended up going with this as it was in stock. The shipper dropped off the box. Thankfully I keep a small dolly in the truck so when I went over I used it to move it to the backyard area. Due to its size, dimensions of the box and the weight, you either need a dolly to move it or two people. Not that it is all that heavy just not something one person can get their arms around to move, literally. Inside the box everything was there, nothing missing, nothing damaged. The instructions for assembly if I had to grade them I’d give a ‘C’ to. Some parts aren’t the most clearly labelled to say the least but through trial and error you get the correct angle pieces in the right order. The bars and joints snap together using spring loaded tabs, no screws or bolts. No worries though as they hold up very well. I put hers together in three sections, the two sides and the arched roofed area. Then we lifted and assembled those sections similar to how a house framer would do. Furthermore I used a level to get the legs as straight as possible. All in all going this route just made the whole process easier. Example finishing the one side and I noticed I had used an angle joint that wasn’t the same as I’d used on the other. So I knew at that point there was an error and corrected that before the ‘fix’ became more of a pain to correct. Once the frame is snapped in place and standing up then I grabbed a short ladder and used the bungee connectors for the roof material starting on one end and working my way around. The tarp used for the roofing fit perfectly. One issue we have to deal with out here are very high seasonal winds. I was most concerned about that. Though this comes with stakes to help secure it at multiple stress points I wanted more. I ordered from here, several pieces of short rebar that were shaped like Shepard’s crooks. Pounded those in and tied the white straps to those. I went into town and picked up over a dozen very heavy duty tent stakes. I used those in each of the feet to get more holding power. Doing it this way even with the winds there was no need to use their 'sand bags.' My timing for the job was perfect as the very next day after it was all done there was a wind storm with gusts to 60 mph. I kept checking it remotely using her security cams but it only moved, flexed minimally with the big gusts. At first the movement was a little disconcerting but like the old children’s fable of the tree and reed in the wind, with the reed bending while the stiff tree breaking, this is how the carport was designed to react. It gives, flexes in the right spots just enough so it doesn’t turn into a stiff kite ready to fly off. There have been several high wind events since and it has held up with no issues up to 74 mph (source local weather station). This carport for the money I feel is a great option for basic protection. While it won’t stop golf ball sized hail it will keep torrents of marble sized off whatever is underneath. Then there is the protection from the sun and UV rays that degrade paint etc. The only negatives? one person can’t put this up unless they are a human octopus. Second while the bungees used to hold the tarp on work great now, over time bungees in the elements degrade, fall apart and rot to pieces until they just snap. Just something to keep in mind on down the road. Nonetheless I would recommend this to anyone needing a quick inexpensive means to protect a vehicle. ... show more

  • So far So good
Style: 6 Legs Color: Gainsboro
I live in high wind area so I will review this rating and review in the future if it fails. It has been up for 30 days now. And we have had strong winds and it is holding up very well. I have bolted it down to the concrete it is on so it seems to be sturdy. The only i can forsee is the construction. If the plastic becomes brittle in the sun and elements then I can see the bolted down poles breaking lose. I also have reservations consering the pigtail bungie cords that hold the tarp on lasting through the elements. I have already planned to purchase and replace these cords atleast once a year. If they do not last a year then I will downgrade the rating. But other than that I love the product it does exactly what i want and it has withstood high winds thus far. ... show more

  • Missing piece, Very good and fast support.
Style: 8 Legs Color: White
The canopy was missing one of the #2 member in order to fully install it. The galvanized pieces are in 1-1/2" which is good but it is a very thin ga. In order to connect the members/arm/legs together they used the Spring-Push-in pin similar to the ones used in a tent, which I am don't like it a lot, but it was very easy to put together. The cover/roof appears to be very strong and it fit very well. It was very easy to install by one person. Overall I like the product, I really like the support they gave me for the missing piece, Let's see how withstands the AZ weather. I am in the 3.5 stars for now, but I gave 4 because of the support they gave me. ... show more
