I ordered this and as SGROW bulb that was red/nir. While waiting for those to arrive, I saw a joovv mini for sale on Craigslist and picked that up. The SGROW bulb was nowhere near the output of the other two and went back to Amazon. I have a bad case of tennis elbow that I've been treating (with small improvement) via weekly Physical Therapy and massage for ~6 months now. I have poor circulation and thus frequent strained muscles and joints. Using this pen for about the same amount of time as the Joovv, I get more of the tingles in my arm to show that stuff is happening. Plus it's a heck of a lot easier to get out and use compared to getting the Joovv hung on the door or in a comfortable position that won't fall over. In the first 2 days I overdid the use of the lights a bit and my entire arm ached, but the sharp elbow pain was roughly cut in half. There is a particular exercise PT has me doing that I was able to tolerate the pain when doing with a 5lb weight, and I was able to increase to a 10lb weight in those first few days. After reading Red Light Therapy by Ari Whitten, I understand I was overdoing it a bit much and the hormetic response (much like you get with exercise) was too much for my body to handle until building up tolerance. I've backed down to prevent the aching, but look forward to building up my tolerance so that I can get rid of the rest of the elbow pain. I definitely recommend this book if you are getting started with red light as it has great tips on how to use it and figuring out healthy doses. One thing that puzzles me is that even without having NIR spectrums in this light, it's helping as much as the Joovv with what is obviously an internal muscle and tendon issue. Red spectrums don't reach as far into your body, but maybe because this type of device is applied directly to the skin it gets a bit further than NIR that's further away. Based on Ari Whitten's recommendations, I have ordered a full body PlatinumLED BIOMax light which will allow choosing either R, NIR or both per session (thus getting the treatment I need without too much hormetic response). However, even with having that as my maintenance light source, I will be keeping this pen to target specific pain points so that areas in need get an extra dose without my overall body getting too much to process. I'll try to update the review later with any thoughts on this pen verses the BIOMax. Anyhow, this pen is great as a standalone if your only issue is pain. However, if you have general chronic fatigue issues (like I do), you'll want to consider a larger device for full body treatment as it's helping my other issues too. But even with a larger light, this pen is a great companion piece. The only thing I would possibly change is offering an NIR version or one that can switch between R/NIR and both. I'd have paid considerably more for an NIR version. UPDATE: I'm ready to give an update after having the BIOMAX for a week or so. The BIOMax allows for turning on one of the two bands or both together. So I have been using it with only the NIR enabled. With the BIOMax, I get the ache in the elbow area but not the light throbbing in the rest of the arm that I get with this pen and the Joovv mini. So the throbbing seems to be the hormetic response for the light portion of the R light that only makes it to the tissue level. Using only NIR, I'm able to make faster progress on my tennis elbow with less discomfort since only the areas I care about are getting light. That said, for a healthier person, the hormetic response should not be as bad and thus it wouldn't really matter that you are treating skin tissues at the same time as deeper muscles. I considered updating this to 4 stars since a device targeting joint and muscle pains really should be NIR. But then my daughter split her lip open and this caused it to heal much faster than would have normally. So really, this light is still the best solution for cuts and other surface injuries even if it's a moderately good solution for joints and muscles. If I could mark it 4.5 stars, I think that'd be more accurate. If it was marketed more for surface issues, then it would still be a solid 5 stars. If it was offered in an NIR version in the ~$200 range, I would bet that'd still be 5 stars. Or even better, a longer pen with R on one end and NIR on the other in the ~$250 range. I have a feeling though that haven't made an NIR version as it takes more power and you can only get so much off this size of battery. I will continue using the pen for skin issues, as a backup when traveling, targeted pain issues where it's hard to limit the dose from the larger lamp and more general targeted pain treatment once I'm no longer needing as much of a dose on my arm and therefore the extra cellular stress from it being R instead of NIR is easy for my body to handle.

Ironically my wife and I bought this device because one of our dogs was diagnosed with a torn ACL and we were told it was going to cost $6,000 to fix it. After we said no, the vet recommended cold red laser treatments for him. This started my wife researching that treatment and, making a long story short, she found this device. So we bought it to help our dog. But before it got here she realized that it would probably be good for me. I had a total knee replacement about 6 weeks ago and have been having a lot of pain in the muscles around the knee. The pain has decreased as I have healed and I moved from prescription pain killers to Advil but I was having to take the maximum dosage of Advil the Dr said I could safely take to control the pain. Sometimes I could not sleep through the night and would have to go sleep in the recliner; not sure why but it did not hurt as much in the recliner and I could typically fall back asleep. This device arrived on Monday 12/23 and today is Thursday 12/26/19. I started using it Monday evening and have used it in the morning and evening for a total of 6 times so far. I put the device on 4 spots about an inch apart on the muscle on the right, left, and top of my leg starting near my knee and working up; 12 locations. Then I put it under my calf muscle at 5 locations about an inch apart starting under my knee and working down my calf. Each of the 17 spots get a 1 minute treatment. The 6th time was this morning before I went to PT and the results were unbelievable. Last Thursday at PT the best rotation I could achieve was 130 degrees and that was with the therapist pushing on my leg to force it back, which caused considerable pain. I could only get to 124 degrees on my own. This was before I started using the device. Today at PT, on my own with no assistance, I got to 135 degrees of rotation without any pain; that is 10 degrees - UNBELIEVABLE. I was able to go through the exercises in PT today much quicker and feel that I got a lot more out of my time there. I took no Advil or any other pain killer today and the pain level was almost non-existent. This device is a god send and has made me reset my goals for my knee recovery to be the same rotation as my other knee, which is all organic. :) By the way, I am 66 years old so I don't have the resilience and quick healing that I had in my youth. :( The critical thing about this device is that it seems to be helping me control the pain so I can do the exercises and stretching that I need to do to fully recover. That was something that I was relying on opioids then Advil to accomplish. Needless to say this device is much safer than taking opioids and high doses of Advil. If you are having muscle or joint pain this device is certainly worth trying. If you do, I hope you have the same results as me or better. I highly recommend it.

I purchased to relieve a serious lower back pain issue. Serious enough that I could have fallen because the back disconnected from the legs. Worked very well and took only 5 days of applying to my lower back. Now use it whenever needed, about once per month. Also have knee issues and it did not work well there but will try again in the future. One star off because charger failed shortly after receiving and a battery failed within a month. Replaced with an inexpensive charger and battery option found on Amazon. The seller also reimbursed for the charger and battery. It is clumsy to use on my lower back but the results were excellent. Recommend for hard to reach body parts to use at night when it is easy to see if the light is on or off. About 2 - 3 minutes of on time per application.

I’ve been a few weeks waiting to post a review to see the results from using this product. It’s easy to use, all directions included and made here in the United States. It’s an FDA approved device and it’s great quality. Best of all, it delivers. I’ve been using it twice daily on my hands which have mild to moderate arthritis in various knuckles. It improves flexibility and reduces the pain very, very well.my mother in her 80,s is now using this device after trying it at my home.She uses it on her hands and wrists while watching tv or reading. She’s had arthritis for years and is experiencing very good pain reduction as well. It’s not a cure, but great technology! Definitely recommend, I wish more medical people would recommend trying this treatment before turning to pain medications.
