Description

Pyrometric SRB04 Cones are used on a shelf inside a kiln or in a kiln sitter to determine when a firing is complete, if the kiln provided enough heat or if there was a problem during the firing. Orton cones are made from carefully controlled compositions so that they bend in a repeatable manner over a very small temperature range. When used in a cone holder or sitter, the cone tip sags until it reaches a point level with the base indicating the kiln has properly fired. Cones have been used in ceramic firings for more than 130 years and Orton has the history and experience to provide the very best product. The number of this cone is 04 which bends at an approximate temperature of 1940° F, depending on firing conditions.

Totally my fault - the photo looked like the bars , and it does clearly have the word “ cones” - I will use them , but will not buy them again

  • Best on the market
I've used this brand, and type....type being the cones vs bars....for years. I much prefer the cones over the bars since I can control variations in my firing and can't with the bars. By this I mean if I need just a few degrees hotter or cooler than the cones fire at the correct position then I can move the cone over one direction or the other and it changes the temperature just that little bit to get the outcome I need for my work This is the best product on the market for firing a cone controlled kiln in my opinion. You can never go wrong with Orton pyrometric cones. ... show more

  • Size is great but….
Orton small cones are just the right size but a lot of them are difficult to break. They’ve started making the cones in twos and twisting some of them are easy to separate but others are almost impossible to separate. So, your 50 really becomes a lot less and god help you if you have arthritis!
