Features

  • Mr Volcano Rigidizer 16oz Concentrate - Winterized solution = Will not freeze in colder temperatures
  • Locks down fibers & toughens your liner: Colloidalsilica rigidizer penetrates ceramic fiber blanket to create a harder, more erosionresistant surface that helps keep fibers in place and provides a better base for refractory coatings.
  • Simple mix, easy apply: Dilute the 16 oz concentrate 1:1 with water to make 32 oz; spray or brush onto prewetted insulation. The solution is tinted so you can see coverage; dry by air or low, repeated heat cycles per instructions.
  • Enough to cover 2x Mr Volcano Hero single burners or 1x Mr Volcano Hero 2 double burner forge.
  • Great prep for refractory coatings: Common practice is: Wool Rigidizer Thin refractory mortar (e.g., Satanite) Optional IR topcoat. A rigidized surface helps subsequent coats bond and hold up under flame velocity.
  • Made in USA

Description

Get a tougher, more durable fiber liner—fast. MR VOLCANO Rigidizer is a colloidal-silica concentrate that soaks into ceramic fiber, cures to a firm surface, and helps reduce fiber disturbance under flame. It’s an easy, proven way to prep your liner before adding a thin refractory coat. The mix-1:1 formula makes 32 oz and is tinted so you can easily confirm full coverage. What people usually try — and why it falls shortRunning bare wool (no rigidizer): Uncoated fiber blankets are easily eroded by flame and handling. Solution: This rigidizer hardens the exposed surface to resist erosion and helps lock down loose fibers.DIY “waterglass” (sodium silicate) spray: Waterglass can form a glassy layer with relatively low softening temperature for forge interiors. Solution: A purpose-made colloidal-silica rigidizer is formulated for fiber linings in high-velocity flame environments.Skipping rigidizer and going straight to mortar: Applying refractory mortar to fluffy fiber can lead to weak spots and flaking. Solution: Rigidize first, then apply thin refractory coats for better adhesion and durability.Heavy castable layers: Thick castables add weight and thermal mass, slow heat-up, and reduce chamber volume. Solution: Rigidize the wool and keep refractory layers thin to preserve fast heat-up.Why this formula is easier in the shopMix 1:1 (makes 32 oz): Simple measuring and coverage. The red tint helps you see what you’ve hit—don’t use color as a dryness indicator.Freeze-resistant: Designed to resist freezing for better handling in cold conditions.Works with Superwool (AES) & RCF: Compatible across common insulation blankets used in forges, furnaces, and foundries. How to Use (summary)Prep the blanket: Lay out insulation, wear PPE, and lightly pre-wet with clean water (mist—don’t soak).Mix: Combine 16 oz concentrate + 16 oz water (shake ~45 sec).Apply: Spray or brush to fully wet all faces of the blanket (use the tint to verify coverage).Install & dry: Fit the blanket while still damp, then air-dry 24–48 hrs or run several brief, low-pressure heat cycles to drive off moisture before any refractory layers. Ensure it’s rigid and dry before coating.Tip: After rigidizing, apply thin coats of refractory (e.g., Satanite) and cure per instructions for a tougher hot face.Specs & CompatibilityType: Colloidal- silica rigidizer for ceramic fiber blankets/modules.Form: 16 oz concentrate → 32 oz when mixed 1:1 with water.Use on: Superwool (AES) & RCF blankets.Application: Spray or brush; freeze-resistant formulation.Made in USA.What’s in the Box(1) MR VOLCANO Rigidizer, 16 oz Concentrate (mix 1:1 with water to make 32 oz).

  • It’s a good product for the quality/price it offers.
The MR VOLCANO rigidizer fulfills its purpose, which is to keep the ceramic wool firm and prevent it from coming loose, whether due to tearing or wear. The full container is enough for two applications. If you bought it for use in your forge, simply use half the container. Add water based on the proportions specified in the manual, and spray it with an atomizer. The ceramic blanket will be ready once it is soaked or superficially wet. Do not use the entire product on the ceramic blanket; just use half and spray it lightly. Then, let the ceramic blanket air dry for a full day (24 hours). If it still feels a bit damp, use a heat gun or, in my case, a hairdryer. It’s worth mentioning that if you didn’t understand how to spray it lightly, the product has a red tint. Simply spray the product mixed with water onto the ceramic blanket using the atomizer. Once you see the ceramic blanket completely red on both sides, you’ll know the product has been fully incorporated. Good luck with your project ... show more

  • Best Rigidiser ive used
Mixed 1 to 1 with water and coated my smelter and forge to the point you couldnt see anymore white just the dye from it. Waited about 5 days before the dye was gone and the feel was no longer wet. Which i applied to much is why my wait was more than 24hrs lessons learned. But ive fired my forge and smelter a ton of times since then and no problems. Ive used other rigidizer in the past they didnt do as good as mr volcano rigidiser so i will be sticking with it for the forseeable future ... show more

  • Great Ridgidizer for the Ceramic Blanket in your forge!
Got the ridgidizer in today, a16oz bottle from Mr Volcano & put a 1st coat on the thermal insulation blanket. It has to dry completely, but so far it looks great! 👍 I've been waiting for this item to finish my forge! Thanks so much, for your help with the order mixup! Update: I have applied 2 coats to the ceramic blanket & then let it also dry for a good day in the sunshine. It is Amazing how Great this product performs! I am sold on this product for life. I have never had any other ridgidizer perform like Mr. Volcano's Ridgidizer! This turns the ceramic blanket into a very firm, tough blanket. I don't know if it will last the life of the forge, but I don't see it deteriating any time soon. I Can't Recommend it Enough! Seriously the best product I've ever used before! ... show more

  • Not very concentrated
Not the best riding user I’ve ever used. But the least expensive. I think it would have worked better without going full 50/50 on the mix. I think it was too water heavy and didn’t disperse as well as it could have.

  • Good Stuff
It does what it says it will. I left the insulation inside the forge while applying it. Took 3-4 days to harden and dry to an acceptable level on the workbench with a desk fan blowing across it

  • Works great!
Works like it should! Having it colored is nice, you can see where you sprayed it (I used a generic spray bottle) and it lightens when it dries. After it hardens, it much easier to spread refractory cement on. I used ~80% of it on a small 2-burner forge.

  • Good buy, works great!
This stuff worked great. I sprayed it on the fiberglass wool in my Propane foundry. It stiffened the wool so that it held up very nicely as I spread the foundry cement on top. Enough for several applications! I did need to wait several days for my application to fully dry. P3rhaps I sprayed it on too thick? ... show more
