    • It does work but don't expect an all-in-one solution
While this is a great idea and it does actually work pretty well, it's limited in use. I use mine for the occasional edge re-grind on bowl gouges, scrapers, spindle gouges and even large drill bits but if it's used every time the tools need sharpening, it would eat them up quick because it does remove a lot of material even when used gently. It's also not as precise as the "white wheel" solution but it's also just a fraction of the cost. Overall I'm happy with it but be prepared to manage your expectations. It does a good job grinding tools back to shape and putting a decent edge on them, just use it occasionally or you may be replacing expensive tools before their life expectancy has passed. One solution is to place a smaller sanding disc of (for example) 220 or 400 grit paper on the inner portion of the disc so you can use either the provided 80 grit surface for lots of material removal, or higher grits for less aggressive touch-ups. Again, overall a good solution if you manage your expectations and are willing to play with grits a bit. I'm happy with the purchase and recommend it for anyone not yet prepared to invest in an actual sharpening system. ... show more

    • Wobbles and squeals with no guard
It gets the job done but wobbles and squeals when you start the lathe. I don't know how this could be resolved but some re-design is in order. Slowing the lathe helps on startup. I added a star washer which helped some but not a lot. No help on the wobble. It assembled nicely and quick. Guide support is okay and only takes a minuite to mount and adjust. Not precise but does work. No guard so you must be very careful or you can get hurt. First time I used it I bumped it which took a layer of skin off when I slipped into the face. So operate it carefully. I was focused more on my tool than my hand. ... show more

The grit of the sanding paper is way to coarse. I bought a finer stick-on paper and put it on the other side and mounted the disc on backwards. The coarse on the back side and the fine in the front. The other problem is that you have to be real careful when working the wood near the head end. It is easy to sand off you knuckles. The tool guide is pretty much worthless. ... show more

Will not fit on my lathe because the lathe motor is in the way. Sits very close to the headstock spindle.
