Description

The unit offers a high quality machined work table of ribbed die-cast aluminum (work table size 8 1/2" x 4 3/4" (220 x 120mm)) providing an adjustable parallel fence with scale. The solid, hard-chromed steel column is 11" high (280mm) and has a diameter of 4/5" (20mm). The powerful motor, which is built into the super stable die-cast head of the machine, runs very quiet and has a long life expectancy. The power transmission by 3-step aluminum pulleys and flat belt provides 3 spindle speeds of 1,800, 4,700 and 8,500rpm allowing triple torque at lower speeds. The chrome feed lever has a practical adjustable drilling depth gauge. The spindle is essentially free of play as a result of the three high quality ball bearing assemblies. It is recessed for the insertion of MICROMOT steel collets, but also threaded for attaching drill chucks with 3/8" thread. The spindle has an extremely high rotational accuracy and a 1 3/16" (30mm) feed. The quill diameter is 1 1/4" (32mm) with return spring, the throat depth (column to drill spindle) is 5 1/2" (140mm). The unit provides quick coarse height adjustment of the headstock via clamp lever. The max. height (worktable surface to spindle end) is 5 1/2" 140mm). Technical data: 110 - 120V, 60Hz, 85W (0.115hp), speeds 1,800/ 4,700/8,500rpm. The unit comes with six triple slit MICROMOT precision steel collets in sizes 1/32", 1/16", 5/64", 3/32", 7/64" and 1/8" (1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.4, 3.0 and 3.2mm). To clamp work pieces we recommend using either one of our machine vises or the X-Y table KT 70 to convert this machine into a high-precision machining center. From the Manufacturer Proxxon Bench Drill Press TBM 115 - This 3 speed drill press excels at drilling micro holes down to 1/64 inch (0.5 millimeters). The unit offers a high quality machined work table of ribbed die cast aluminum, 8-1/2 inch x 4-3/4 inch in side. It provides an adjustable parallel fence with scale. The solid high chrome steel column is 11 inches high and is 4/5 inch in diameter. The powerful motor is built into the super stable die cast head of the machine, runs very quietlyand has a long life expectancy. The power transmission by 3 step aluminum pulley and flat belt provides 3 spindle speeds of 1800, 4700, 8500 rpm. This allows triple torque and lower speeds. The chrome feed lever has a practical adjustable drilling depth gauge. The spindle is free of play because of the 3 high quality ball bearing assemblies. Spindle is recessed for the insertion of Micromot steel collets but also threaded for attaching drill chucks with 3/8 inch thread. The spindle has an extremely high rotational accuracy and a 1-3/16 inch (30 millimeter) feed. The quill diameter is 1-1/4 inch with return spring; the throat depth column to spindle is 5-1/2 inches. The unit provides quick coarse adjustment of the headstock via the clamp lever. Maximum height work table to spindle is 5-1/2 inches.

  • Very Accurate
CON: Not every thing shown in photo came with the drill press This gave it a 4 instead of a 5. the mini vice is missing a $20 value. PRO: otherwise I am amazed at the quality an accuracy, I would buy it again. I was able to drill a .012" hole in to a1mm brass tube without breaking the drill bit which is very fragile. I tested the wobble with a micrometer and it has a .003" wobble which is amazingly small. the power is sufficient for this kind of work. The press works very smooth. this enables me to feel the drill bit as it drills. this is one primary reason that my drill did not break. CON: Clamping materials is not good. this is very bad for this type of drilling. I ordered the Proxxon x-y table once mounted I expect the clamping problem to be fixed. NOTE: A replacement standby belt would have been nice. ... show more

  • really impressive engineering
I had previously bought the small drill press that is available at many places, under different brand names (at least in pics they appear the same, sometimes different colors), for approx $100.00 and it was fine but I had not seen this one when I bought that one. So through no fault of its own (I was carelessly moving the table and it fell off), I broke its base (though, impressively, it still worked) and that gave me excuse to get this one as a replacement. This is a huge upgrade. well worth the higher price. This Proxxon is significantly better and well-engineered, easier to adjust, has a built-in straight edge to line up and steady target, works very cleanly and smoothly. Another example of nicer build quality: the cover of the other one snapped on and off by two annoying little tabs which did not hold the cover on well, the top was constantly popping off at even a slight bump. The Proxxon has a solid bolt-on top that stays on like it should yet is still easy to remove if desired to change the band. So this Proxxon is well worth the price but glad I learned my lesson not to carelessly move the table with the cheap one. ... show more

  • For its size, It beats anything else out there but........
Received this product yesterday along with the MS-4 vise. Mixed feelings about it: Pros: 1) Well built and quiet. 2) Seems to be quite accurate, I drilled some 1/32 holes yesterday with acceptable accuracy, although the vise and base-bar make it difficult.. 3) Feed level handle movement is smooth without any hesitation throughout the full travel of the sleeve. 4) Good response from their customer care unit, although the fellow I spoke with did not know too much about the operation of the unit itself. He did pass my questions on, and the callback came within an hour or so. Cons: 1) Wow!, does this tool generate a lot of heat! I like to test anything I buy just to make sure it won't be an infant mortality. I set the pully speed to 1800 RPM and just let it free-run for 20 Minutes and after that period the sides, the column handle, and the main support column got so hot I could not touch them. The motor is rated at 85 Watts (1/8 HP) and I wonder where all that heat is going. There are no cooling vents on the unit so it would appear that all the aluminum that surrounds the motor is acting like one big heat sink. If your applications use a very light duty cycle (a few minutes on and twice as much off) this heat issue will not occur and should not be of concern. I spoke with Customer service (see #4 above) about the heat issue, and they said that given a free-running situation, it should not get that hot and that I should return it to the factory for checkout. Debating right now whether to simply return it to Amazon for replacment, but I have a feeling that this issue is inherent in the operation of the unit. 2) Did not like the guide bar lock-down screw. The locking bolt itself sits flush with bar allowng only the side openings to tighten the nut. After about 15 minutes of playing with it, my fingers were sore from the ribbing on the knob. You really have to put some real strength behind tightening the bar-lock-down-bolt or the left side of the bar will move while positioning the MS-4 vise. I replaced their knob with a 3/8" properly threaded hex bolt, and now using a 3/8" wrench or spin-tight, although somewhat more inconvenient, allows me to securely fasten the bar to the base-plate without ripping up my fingers. 3) The MS-4 Vise is a dissappointment. Too much play between the bar and the vise and no way to secure the vise on the bar itself. Somewhat surprising that a device touted as being able to drill 1/64 holes accurately would provide attachments that make it almost impossible to achieve that kind of resolution. Also the adjustment thread screw on the vise is on the inside of the vise grips, and depending on the position of the vise, will permit the bit itself to contact the the threads of the adjustment bolt. I think a new stand-alone mini-vise is in my future. 4) Manual omits some important information. They indicate an oil point at the top bearing but fail to tell you what weight oil to use and the frequency of oiling. Customer service is supposed to advise on this. Summary: So all-in-all, the Machine is OK and will fill my needs and it certainly beats the dremel table. The tool itself is quite precise and beats anything out there. However, the user interface (lock down bolts and the bar) and the MS-4 vise with its free-play and inability to be locked down, make precise drilling a bit of a hassle. ... show more

  • superterrific drill machine
Smaller in size than I expected but still perfectly usable for my purpose (drilling PCB through-holes). Spindle and collet system run true enough to easily drill 0.3mm holes. I can't do 0.2mm or 0.25mm reliably but then I haven't bolted down the machine for extra stability like they recommend. Also I'm holding the workpiece freehand rather than clamping it down securely. In any case, this drill machine beats a dremel rotary tool mounted in their $50 drill stand by a large margin. Initially there was problem with the machine when I opened it to change the belt to the higher-speed setting. The "set screws" for the motor-side "gear thingy" were coming out and would clearly eat into the belt as it operated. These set screws are basically intended to stay "sunked in" on the high-speed track of the motor-side gear thingy. So I tightened them as best I could but when I turned on the machine, the centrifugal force caused them to roll back out and damage the belt. I explained my situation to proxxon support and thankfully they sent a new belt by express mail at no charge. I've taken out the set screws entirely and it seems to work OK so I'm not sure what they're really good for. If you get one with loose set screws I personally recommend removing them rather than trying to secure them properly. AFAICT, it's not easy to secure them because there is no "head" to these screws. ... show more
