Obviously it wont play exactly like a brass trumpet, but for the cost, its fantastic. Its incredibly light weight so the 3 year old I bought it for is able to lift it with ease and now I don't have to worry about him dropping mine. He likes to yell into and gets upset when I start playing the blues on it, but its been a lot of fun. As far as construction goes, zero issues with the valves sticking. Sound wise, low D (valve one and three pushed down) sounds a little off at times. Could just be how the plastic resonates. Otherwise I havent had any issues with sound. My husband is a band director and professional musician and was surprised that the quality of sound was pretty good. Not a bad price to pay if you have a kid who is interested in music but not 100% sure which instrument is their preferred one.

My 12 year old bought this for himself because he wanted to teach himself trumpet. Works very well and he loves it. We had a friend who is a great trumpet player play it and when a skilled player plays, it sounds like a decent brass instrument! Also durable. My son may have left it on the back of a trailer and it flew off into the road going about 40 mph. There was orange and black everywhere! We were sure it was wrecked, but all the valves and pieces just flew out on its tumbling journey. The mouthpiece was wrecked and the bell had a small crack. Miraculously, everything else was in perfect shape and all 5 pieces were put back together and (with a new mouthpiece) it still played great. ... show more

I can’t tell if I’m doing something wrong or if it’s the mouth piece, but I can’t get anything that sounds like a trumpet to come out. Ended up ordering a brass one which I can at least start to hear the right sounds. The mouth piece of this one (I suspect) requires a very specific embouchure as it feels like it just allows the air to flow freely through it without any direction. The brass trumpet’s mouthpiece feels like the air is being directed through the instrument more, allowing more forgiveness with imperfect embouchure. I bought this as a Christmas gift for my son. It works well but you will need some training on how to produce sound in order for it to work properly. Other than that it’s a great beginner horn for someone learning the instrument.
