  • An excellent sounding turntable for those who aren't Rich!!!
So before this, I had the audiotechica LP60. An awesome player for the price to start my vinyl collecting journey with. Auto start. Auto return. Simple rpm change. Virtually no setup time. Everything a person with 20-30 records needs to play a few licorice pies with when friends come over.... and then the collection grew... to 100... to 300... and now this. I finally wondered if I was missing something by not getting a nicer turntable. So I at last took the plunge and got this.... after many nights of research. So first the cons... Cons: If you are used to just hitting a button and walking away, this will take some getting used to. There are no buttons. Nor is there an auto-return. You will need to setup, manually place the arm, and drop it. You will also need to stick around when your tunes are done. Middle: The setup was a first but was fairly simple. It's just a matter of finding the right balance of autoskate and counterweight... these are new features to someone who has never done it, but is part of the improved sound you get (see pros). The rpm change is slightly annoying, but I mostly have 33's so not a prominant inconvenience. Pros: every... thing... else. The sound is amazing. Yes, the difference is immediately noticeable. You will immediately hear things that you did not before. Everything is also more clear. Also, if you had some records that had skips you just couldn't fix, try this... the correctly weighted and slated arm immediately eliminated this for me on all albums. Also, it is beautiful.... aesthetically speaking. Plus, there are many upgrades possible for the unit later (trust me, I've been looking). Summary: if you're going to miss your buttons and automation, Stay clear. Though... I thought I would, but the sound and beauty actually have made me forget about it within a few plays. Yes, it's that much better. It's not the cheapest or even the second cheapest. Certainly not the most expensive... I would recommend this to someone who has truly decided that collecting and listening to records is something they want to take pride in.... but isn't rich. If you have a few records you want to hear, maybe an occasional new purchase go for a AT-LP60. But if you are beyond that go for this. ... show more

  • BIG bang for your turntable bucks
The ONLY thing that took some getting used to was the anti-skate mechanism. As long as you don’t move the tone arm from side to side QUICKLY, it won’t “derail” on you. This is, as many others have attested, a super turntable “package” for the price. The fact that the cartridge comes mounted and pre-aligned is a HUGE bonus. Pro-Jects sell like hotcakes. If you can find one in stock, go for it. They not only sound great: they’re also gorgeous. One SLIGHT con: the platter must be removed, and the belt moved, to change from 33 1/3 to 45. But that’s a minor issue for me. ... show more

  • Exceptional Entry Point
As someone on the newer side of vinyl I wanted to invest in a product I knew was backed by quality and design. I did weeks and weeks of research before settling in Project Carbon. I could not be happier with this product! Exceptional build quality, easy to set up, beautiful to look at, and frankly sounds utterly clean. Paired with Audio Engine HD6+ and a ARTcessories DJ Preamp, my records sound exceptional and it's easy to use. If you are looking for a more set it and forget it player I would look to Audio Technica or Denon for a turntable with automatic return. I was torn between this Project Carbon and a U-Turn, but couldn't be more pleased. I cannot speak to the U Turns quality but I can say that this one is remarkable and well worth the price. ... show more

  • Top notch tech support!
I recently bought the Project Debut Carbon DC as well as the Project S2 Phono Box. This is my first vinyl player, and even though I'm not a beginner with A/V I was having issues getting sound through my speakers. I troubleshot on my own for a few hours to no avail. This morning I reached out to Project via facebook and the rep walked me through the set-up from start-to-finish. After a couple hours working with me, we finally discovered that I had removed the whole stylus from the arm, rather than just removing the piece of plastic that reveals the stylus. It ended up being a really stupid problem, but it takes great support who actually cares to patiently walk through all the details and discover these things. Big shout-out to the nameless hero running support on their facebook page. I will continue to use Project in the future because I love companies who care about their customers :) ... show more

  • Great but a couple of notes to consider
I really like my new Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC turntable but there are a few things to note: The Pro-Ject speedbox (either version) will not work with this turntable -- i.e. you will NOT be able to change the speed from a Speedbox attached to this specific DC version of the turntable. The RCA cables that came with it (at least in my case) are terrible. The connections were too loose and caused a hum (yes, the ground cable was connected). Replacing the cables with others I already had eliminated this. So, you may want to purchase some cables in readiness for your turntable arriving. Setting up the arm took a lot longer than I expected because the counterweight at the desired setting was extremely sensitive. Again, I'm not sure if this was my particular unit, but it was really frustrating. Once it was setup though, great. I really wish I could change the speed externally without taking off the platter. I know this can be filed under "first-world problems" but really, when you play a lot of records, and you have a lot of 45s, manually having to change the belt under the platter gets really old, very quickly. It's for that reason I can't give it a full 5 stars. ... show more
