These were the ones that were gotten for a friend he requested the Prismacolor colored pencils specifically for his art projects and these were a reasonable price without taking away from selection of useful colors in the package. The premiere series can always be added on to from the other packages they have with their other packages rather than a full investment of the whole set of 150 pencils which even on Amazon can cost between 145 to 200 or more US dollars but is well worth it for any artist serious about art involving colored pencils for their media. Now their are many brands using the same "soft core" make up as prisma color as well for artists exploring or looking into but not wanting the price point just yet of prisma color pencils just yet that are just as good right here on Amazon as well which I also have in my tool set ... show more

The colored pencils are worth the money. Color goes on smooth and very pigmented. The lighter colors are somewhat more pigmented and requires less layers and not a lot of pressure to apply.

These have great color and are easy to use, but not worth the high cost to me. I find the inexpensive Kalour set I purchased to be just as soft, easy to use and colorful. As best I can determine, the Kalour are the same as the Brunfuner round colored pencils even though the Brunfuner is sold as oil based and the Kalour as wax based - both wax and oil are used in all colored pencils apparently, but they are referred to as wax based if more wax is used and oil based if more oil is used. I know from reviews posted by professionals that the Prismacolor are deemed to have more pigment and to be better at blending and layering. But to me, the differences are miniscule and not worth the high cost difference. Additionally, Prismacolor break often and suffer from waxbloom, so although they have a decent lightfastness rating, they do not seem suitable for professional work any more than the Kalour is. That being said, I am a beginner and amateur with colored pencils - with more experience, I may change my opinion... ... show more
