1. To begin with, right off the bat - most of you will be quite surprised at the small size of this powered subwoofer. I have a few 8" Powered subwoofers - those being the diminutive (or so I thought) Edifier T5, along with the larger (for an 8" powered subwoofer) Mackie CR-X Series, 8-Inch, 200 watt model. The Eris Sub 8 is virtually half the size of the Mackie and weighs half as much also. I was not prepared for this, but after connecting and setting up the Presonus, my mind was instantly changed for the better. My main two reasons for picking up the Eris Sub 8 was that it would have to be placed under a desk (my system is located on a desktop, near-field scenario), and its size would have to be smaller than the competition. You need to have the proper leg and knee room under the desk, and the Eris Sub 8 gives you that for sure. 2. As far as 8" subwoofers go, I found that the Mackie (whose link is below for your perusal and costs exactly the same price as the Presonus Eris Sub 8) is fairly powerful as far as 8" powered subwoofers are concerned. The size, the heft, the low frequency response, and the overall weight, put it in a league of its own, and I certainly won't be selling mine. The only reason I’m temporarily putting it back in the box is that for the time being, I needed something smaller - thus the acquisition of the Eris Sub 8. For the price, the Mackie unit does incorporate a few additional features, to include a desktop volume control and bass dial (unique and quite convenient), and more power, which can make a difference (especially in larger rooms). Getting back to the Presonus, after first connecting everything (setting up the cross-over frequency - I choose around 70 Hz - to cross over to my KEF 150’s), and leaving the gain knob in the 12 o'clock position (where it was set right out of the box), connecting my TRS balanced cables, etc., I was shocked to discover that the default 12 o'clock gain position for an under the desktop subwoofer environment was entirely too much and caused the subwoofer to seemingly bottom out (distort). I first observed this by playing A classical music symphony written by Saint Saens - that being his wonderful (powerful) Organ Symphony 3, and having left the gain at the 12 o'clock position, it bottomed out quickly when the 32 Hz organ notes hit. After careful experimentation, I adjusted the gain setting to around the 7 o'clock position (which is low, I know), where it turned out to be ideal for how I was using it (under the desk), and everything balanced out perfectly. 5. Having a subwoofer(s) that allows for both input and output RCA jacks, along with a frequency cut-off dial, makes it an exceptionally convenient audio product. To also have balanced inputs/outputs (both the Presonus and Mackie have TRS inputs/outputs also) raises your capabilities to another level. 6. Now let's talk uses and environment. In my opinion, if you intend to purchase this Eris Sub 8 for a large room, then I'd suggest a larger subwoofer (10" to 12" or higher). To me (I could be wrong here), this unit appears to have been designed for smaller rooms (bedroom size perhaps), or for an under the desktop scenario, or small recording studio. But hey, that's just my observation. Since I use it in an under desktop scenario, it does perfectly fine for me - no issues at all. 7. As for appearances, this Eris Sub 8 looks quite attractive, and did I mention the “size…?” 8. In closing, given its low price and very small size (for the genre), along with its superb performance parameters (once you get the gain setting right for your environment), I had to give it 5 stars. It covers many bases, and no it’s not perfect (nothing is unless you pay out the Wazoo for it).

I am not an audio technician. I do a bit of video editing at work and decided that my cheap creative 2.1 speakers really were not doing me any favors when dealing with difficult voice audio. I picked up a pair of E5 monitors and this Eris sub along with a Scarlet 2i2. Holly cow, my expectations were blown away. I had the sub a little too high as you can see in the attached frequency measurements but holy cow look at those E5s in a completely untreated room! Anyhow, I let SoundID Reference calibrate them for me and the whole system has been an absolute pleasure and unbelievable considering the price. I have a nice flat response all the way down to 30 Hz. So, I decided I wanted to get back into dabbling with audio production at home. I already had a pair of the old inexpensive Samson Resolv A5 "monitors" but after a bit with them I knew I needed a subwoofer. I didn't even think about it and picked up this Eris 5. Well, I plopped it down in the corner under my desk and.... Ugh. It struggled to get down below about 43 Hz or so. I brute forced it with volume and SoundID. That got it down to about 35 hz or so but it was clear I was pushing it too hard in some music at 85 Db reference as it would huff like crazy and even break up a bit. Turns out in my particular room, having the sub in the corner near me was the absolute worst position. It cancelled out deep bass frequencies. four 30' balanced TRS cables later and I am happy. I had to put the darn thing in the opposite corner but it dips down to 30 Hz perfectly now just like at the office. Luckily the A5s get down to around 55 hz pretty well so the sound from the sub is not particularly obvious from behind me. So yes, this sub really does hit down to 30 Hz as advertised (drops like a rock after that of course). It's surprisingly small for its performance capability. Someday I should do a nearfield measurement on it. From my posted measurements in an untreated room it is obviously going to have peaks and troughs but to the ear, it is still very pleasant even uncorrected. I would recommend this low end presonus line to people in a second. Shoot, you can pretty much use the E5s right out of the box and get amazing results. Update 9-18-2023: I had something of an odd failure on my sub. All of a sudden the High Pass Filter started attenuating all frequencies (not just below 80 HZ) and only in the left channel. I contacted Presonus support and after a day of email troubleshooting, Fender (yeah I guess they must own Presonus) sent me out a brand new sub which was at my door in 3 days. That's pretty good.

This is just two funny equates to this, if You really want to have some fun listening to some good music, simply get two of these subwoofers. One of these subs will enhance Your music on the low end, but two, and You will feel the bass. Two subs actually fill out the room better and equally across Your listening area. Less volume is needed when using two of these subs equating to less distortion at higher volumes. Typically, people usually blow out one (their ONLY) sub by overdriving it constantly, which eventually leads to amp failure (sooner as opposed to later, if at all.) 50 watts continuous music may NOT sound like a lot of music, but it truly is, if it is clean and not distorted. Two subs and now You're talking about a 100 continuous wattage of music. I say continuous because I would not and do not play any of My speakers to achieve peak wattage, which is just that, peak wattage. Peak wattage can be damaging to speakers especially if the sound is distorted. I have these subs paired with My Klipsch "The Fives" and I Am over the top with the low-end reproduction of music. Tight, clean, precise, rich, full and low bottom end. Metallica, Aretha Frankin, Fleetwood Mac, Mandrill, The Ohio Players, Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire all sound full and rich. I play Khelani (Toxic), The Gap Band (Yearning for Your Love) and/or Nipsey Hustle and the music is clear, precise and low in frequencies. My Genres are old school R&B/Real Rap Music (80's early 90's), Blues, Rock, Funk, Jazz and a lil Country to round it out. Elevator and classical music are NO-GO'S, and I don't want to hear about females being degraded, drugs or violence being falsely disguised as music. Real music involves real musical instruments that are played by real and artful musicians that have meaning and positive purposes. I love to hear musicians finger slide across and pick their guitar strings. And please do NOT forget the brass sections and woodwinds either! For example, Metallica's Unforgiven, most people focus on the lead and rhythm guitars, but in ALL SERIOUSNESS, the drummer is VERY key in this song. The drummer is the timing and rhythm keeper in this song for sure. And a good sub will help You to see this also, kick-drum, snare, cymbals, crashing, punching, beating, rhythm! I want to hear it all in detail and with clarity! These subs do a great job in infusing music with depth and fullness; and warmth when needed. All they need are the complementing mid and high frequencies and it's game on! If You use two of these, they together can fill an averaged sized large room easily. My Klipsch "The Fives" and My ProSonus Eris Sub 8's do NOT compare to My Klipsch RF-7 II 7.2 set-up, NOR were they designed to. However, it does come very close to replicating the sounds that I get from My main sound system, and it is that sound that I was trying to achieve. Secondly, My left and right channels individually sound as one speaker (one sub/one of The Fives.) I set the gain on both subs to 50%, and from there I worked backwards in the direction of 0% using the sub volume control on The Fives remote control to make the subs function solely as an extension of the speaker in the low-end area. From this point, the master volume control is the only volume control needed for everyday playback. The crossover is set to 80hz. I use NO equalization, simply flat setting. I do NOT have to make any adjustments to My subs when playing music across different genres. When You have ONLY ONE sub out, You must buy a Y splitter containing one male end to plug in the single sub out jack and two female ends on the V side of the Y. I then purchased a Y split sub cable, all three ends male. This Y cable plugs into the left and right channels on the back of the sub (You can also use a single sub cable for each sub, but it must be plugged into the L or LFE input on the back of the sub.) I have both subs' settings identical, or You can adjust them individually according to Your listening preference and room environment (acoustics.) For Me, these subs were ideal. Also, I always use dual subs at home because of their inherent better listening acoustic across the whole of the listening area. Sure, I could have purchased a more power speaker with a higher output wattage, but even then, one more expensive sub does not sound a good a two less expensive, but good subs. In essence, two for the price of one, taking down two birds with one stone. Trust Me, had I purchased the more expensive single sub, at some point, I would simply purchase a second one to achieve the same results (balanced bass response across the entire room, as opposed to one half or corner of the listening area. Klipsch "The Fives" have a 4" driver that is responsible for both bass and midrange frequencies. As a result, because of its dual role and cone diameter, they are limited on the low-end frequencies reproduction, though they CAN reach deep on the higher end of low-end frequencies. Adding a sub or two (recommended) allows the bass drivers to focus more on the midrange and upper end bass frequencies for bass tightness and brighter midrange. The subs are responsible for bringing to life those low-end frequencies that We so desire. The bass port is front firing, so placement against a wall is NOT a factor, but room corners and speaker placement are still in play! I would recommend these subs if You love great sounding music, but don't necessarily want to break the bank in the process. Should anything change or the subs fail for some reason, I will post an update. Right now, the subs are a 5-star IMO. I use them for music ONLY, so I do not know how they perform in a theater environment or for those purposes.

These are not good for someone who wants to blast either movies or music. If you want that you need to spend more in my mind. My upstairs system is comprised of many old pieces that took some time to set up properly in my living room. New pieces are a modest Cambridge Audio Integrated and Wiim Pro Plus. Both great for the money! I actually brought a second one and dialed them in to compliment old Tannoy monitors, etc. When spending time listening, adjusting, listening and more adjusting I was able to get them to blend with speakers and extend the low end. The high pass compliments the speakers and the levels are kept to a minimum on the subs. It's true I don't listen to music very loudly and it's also if set too high a level they just boom. All that is said to say they are now integrated wonderfully into my system. I couldn't be happier. They are small and fairly attractive.

Bought this setup for my office, the sound quality is excellent, however, the subwoofer is a little overpowering compared to the speakers. While there is a cutoff frequency adjustment for the subwoofer, there really should be a way to raise and lower it's volume compared to the speakers. The speakers do have a volume control, but it's relative to the subwoofer. I just leave the sub at a lower cutoff than I otherwise would. I found a balance that works. Beyond that, the sound quality is excellent. I have a 3.5mm jack plugged into my monitor, and the sound is a-maz-ing! Videos are good, and gameplay sound is just off the charts. I really love these speakers.

I literally just got the Eris Sub 8. I plugged it into my sound bar from the sub out. It makes a massive difference. Just that simple set up has produced house shaking bass. I even had to turn it down. This is not really meant to be a home theater sub but it works really great. I got this one as it was the most fully featured sub for the money and I'm not a music producer. I just wanted something to complement my soundbar. If you are going to use this with Eris 3.5 (or above) monitors in a home studio setting I think you will be more than satisfied. If you are a very serious music producer...well you probably won't be buying this sub anyway. To my ears it packs more than enough punch especially given the price. For the home musician I think this will be more than enough to get a relatively accurate idea of your bass in the mix. I'm no expert though. I mix with headphones...gasp! If this unit breaks or has any other defect I'll modify this review. Right now it is blowing my mind.

Don't let it's size fool you, this sub DELIVERS! I'm using this in a 1.5 bedroom apartment plugged into my Focusrite 2i2 3rd Gen Audio Interface with TRS cables and it's absolutely crystal clear! It's tunable to exactly how much bass response you want and balances perfectly with my 5" Studio Monitors. Took about 10 minutes to connect and tune correctly. Absolutely recommend this to anyone who has a medium to small studio or room, it will fill it with sound! Even if you have a large room, you'll likely have enough to work with right here. I was worried thinking I might need a 10" sub but I'm so happy I went with this 8". I'm pretty much on all of the lowest settings with plenty of room left in the volume, etc. A 10" would have been major overkill and a total waste of money. There IS a reason this is highest rated sub on Amazon in it's class!

When I got my Eris E3.5 studio monitors, I was blown away by the clean, clear sound. They even had a nice punchy low end for small speakers...but of course no real deep bass below 80Hz. I later upgraded to the E5 XT monitors, thinking I'd get the same great sound with a better bottom end. But the E5 XT had a chesty-sounding midrange, lacking the clarity of the E3.5. And the low end was not really that deep at 48Hz. Maybe the 5" driver, in trying to do both midrange and bass, was not so great at either one. So when the Eris SUB8 was introduced, I was all over it. I'm thinking I can pair it with the E3.5, get back that magic midrange clarity, and also get real deep bass reinforcement. What I did not expect is that when I paired the SUB8 with the E5 XT, and switched in the 80Hz low cut on the E5 XT, the midrange cleaned up considerably. By freeing the 5" XT driver from having to reproduce low bass, the imaging opened up and the XTs sounded a lot more natural. So although the SUB8 was designed for use with the E3.5 and E4.5 monitors, it can also help the larger models sound their best. Update: I am now using the Eris E3.5 satellites with the SUB8. The sound is EXCELLENT. The smaller E3.5 speakers blend perfectly with the SUB8. This may be the best sound you can get for $300. Both the E3.5s and the SUB8 are true bargains.
