  • Sturdy, well designed, and easy to assemble cabinets
Color: White
I purchased two of the Elite 32" wardrobe cabinets, and they are just perfect! They arrived on schedule and without damage. These are extremely sturdy, well designed, and easy to assemble if you are handy with a screw driver, although a cordless screw driver definitely makes the job even easier. It took me only a little over an hour to assemble the first one, and then less than an hour for the second. It did take me a little while to adjust the hinges to get the doors even and minimize the gap between them, but I'm sure that this was mainly because I was compensating for a basement floor that is neither perfectly level nor perfectly flat. I did end up having to put a small shim under one corner of each of the cabinets to keep them square and stable, but again, that was due to the uneven basement floor, not the cabinet itself. One thing to remember, though - These cabinets are HEAVY. 122 pounds. That's a good thing in terms of their sturdiness and quality materials, but it also means that I was not going to attempt to carry that box into the house and down to the basement by myself. I ended up opening the box right where it was left by UPS and carrying the components down to the basement one or two at a time. Overall, I am extremely happy with these cabinets, and I plan to purchase several additional cabinets of this brand, but different styles and sizes. ... show more

  • Good Cabinets for the Money
Color: White
Over the last few years, I've bought and assembled eight Prepac Elite cabinets in various sizes, including two wardrobes. In my experience, they are good cabinets for the money. The components fit together quite well--they're made with a degree of precision by people who know what they're doing. The materials are also good, mostly particle board, it''s true, but the doors are MDF and the fasteners are appropriate to the materials. The resulting product has gone a long way toward relieving my home storage problem. About my only complaint about these cabinets is that there are no glides or anything to protect the bottom from damage when the cabinet has to be scooted into place. Some tips. The instructions say to use a Phillips screwdriver. That's correct for some of the screws. However, the "Confirmat" screws and the adjustable hinge screws are PoziDriv (PZ3 and PZ2 bits respectively). A Phillips driver will work, but does not take advantage of the PoziDriv's anti-cam-out feature. This feature is a big help when adjusting the hinges. Hence my suggestion to use a PoziDriv bit where appropriate. Before nailing the back on, verify that the cabinet is squared. The cabinets are self-squaring to some degree and also to some degree the back can be used as a guide, however it pays to double check by measuring the distances between diagonal corners (the distances should be the same). My first Prepac assembly, a broom closet, was not square and looks it (someday I'll go back and redo it). When nailing the back on, be sure the nails go in pretty straight. Edge-on, there's only 5/16 inch from the center of a board to the surface. I goofed by driving one of my nails at an angle and pushed out a piece of laminate. A problem with most particle board shelves is that they sag over time. An adjustable shelf can be flipped over, but not a fixed shelf, like the one in the wardrobe. I improved the sag problem of the fixed shelf by sinking some nails into the middle from the back for support. This requires very careful measuring, but it can be made to work. The larger cabinets are not terribly rigid, so I suggest extra care in leveling or they may deform a bit as weight is put on them, throwing the door alignment off. The hinges are good quality and work well, but their adjustment can try one's patience. The adjustment screws need to be snug or the hinges won't stay put (this is where PoziDriv bits come in handy). But don't overtighten any screws that are going directly into particle board or MDF. Follow-up, three years later. I use these cabinets every day and they're as nice as ever. Recently I was watching an episode of The Property Brothers and noticed they used Prepac cabinets in one part of a house in lieu of custom cabinets to save money on a project. Not bad! ... show more

  • Easy to assemble, looks nicer than expected
Color: Black
Pretty impressed with this wardrobe cabinet. It comes packed very well and even though one side of the box was open, nothing was damaged or missing. The box is very heavy, over 70 pounds. I have no idea how the UPS driver carried it to my door himself. I barely got it in my house. It probably would be easier to open the box and remove the pieces one at a time. I thought it opened at one end but the long side flips open and really isn't hard to get everything out. Assembly was much easier than I thought. Instructions are super basic and the pieces aren't labeled but it's obvious how it goes together. I used an electric screwdriver which was a huge help because there are over 30 screws total. The parts appeared to be scratched up but it's just dust from shipping and it cleaned off with a damp cloth and looks great. The cabinet is made of particle board but has a nice quality black coating on all visible sides that make it look really nice once it's finished. The doors have beveled edges and have nice 6 way adjustable hinges to get them to fit perfectly. It took me a few minutes to adjust them but I got them where I want them. There is a small gap between the doors I wasn't able to eliminate but it's not bad. I added some small felt pieces to eliminate the sound of the doors hitting the cabinet. I didn't see any in the package, that or some rubber pieces would be helpful. The closet part is pretty nice. The wooden rod holds a decent amount of weight but it is supported by plastic pieces so you won't want to load it down too hard. If you have normal clothes and a couple heavy jackets it will be fine. There are storage areas above and below the closet and you can also store stuff on top of the cabinet if you want. When closed, the cabinet looks very clean and I like the modern handles that are included. For a basement room with no closet, this was a great solution to an open clothes rack which just looked messy all the time. Overall, a nice quality wardrobe unit that will work best if you don't move it around too much since it is just particleboard. I'm mostly impressed nothing was damaged in shipping or during assembly. The price was good for a unit of this quality and I'm happy with it. ... show more

  • Top Notch Closet
Color: Black
I’m glad I bought this, it’s worth the money. It’s better than the cheap cloth metal combo closets they sale at other stores. Sturdy and spacious in my opinion. I highly recommend to any.
