  • Easy to store and use
Easy to store on a shelf or break apart for use. I use for a hydroponic veggies garden on my patio, growing lettuce, tomatoes, herbs, squash, blueberries. Would be good mixed in with more nutricious potting soils for imoroving drainage in non-hydroponic beds. Consistent quality.

  • Work like a charm
Coco coir is an excellent growing substrate that I highly recommend. I've used it successfully to grow greens directly in the coir, as a soil amendment for vegetables like tomatoes, and to start seedlings. The consistency and quality have been great every time. This coco coir brick expanded impressively after just a short soak, demonstrating its excellent water retention abilities. The coir absorbed water rapidly and swelled to fill out the seed starting trays. Even in my dry climate, the moist coir kept seeded trays saturated for multiple days without drying out. While high quality coco coir can be a bit pricy upfront, a little goes a long way and it's reusable. The value surpasses basic potting soil when you factor in coco's superior aeration, drainage and moisture holding capacity. This eco-friendly and renewable growing medium produces thriving, healthy plants. For starting seeds or general gardening use, I can't recommend coco coir enough. It's become a gardening essential for me that I use for everything from seedlings to transplants to amendments. The consistency of quality and performance makes this a product I'll keep buying. ... show more

  • Pretty good quality.
Pasteurized it, and added to some bulk substrate, so far it's working out well.

  • Good coco but expensive
Coco coir is a great substrate for growing. I've had success growing greens directly in it and using it as a soil amendment for tomatoes and a bunch of other veg. I had very bad luck starting peppers in the coco but that may be because the seeds were bad? The quality from the coco has been pretty consistent and I don't notice a difference between any of the brands (does it all come from the same place?). So, you're really just considering the price. These bricks expand considerably—you can see what a third inch of rain does to my brick in the picture. But even with the expansion, it's expensive and probably more expensive than it's worth. You could get 2 cubic feet of Miracle Grow soil for the same price and that's probably the best substrate I've used. ... show more

  • Soaks water up quickly
I use coco coir mixed with worm castings as a seed starting mix. This particular block of coco coir was very quick to absorb the water and expanded very nicely. Water retention is high, as I ended up not using all of the mix I had put together and this stayed moist for up to 3 days (and I live in a very dry climate). Happy with this particular block--and I've bought many over the year, different brands and sizes. ... show more

  • Good product, but a little overpriced
I’ve used coconut coir bricks for years and it’s always on my list of soil amendments that I use. It rehydrates in under an hour and will expand to something around three gallons when done. It’s a must have for all container gardening. The only complaint I have about this product is it’s a little overpriced. ... show more

  • Expanded much better than most
I've tried at least half a dozen different brands of this material, and this one was one of the best by far. It expanded much more quickly than many others; it almost instantly absorbed water. Some other brands seem to resist water, making it very difficult to hydrate them. No problems at all with this brand. I can't stress enough how nice this was! The coir has a slight, but pleasant, wood-resin odor. It is clean and has a nice even consistency with little dust. I use this for making terrarium substrate and for mixing potting soil. It works admirably for both of these purposes. ... show more
