    • Well designed with one minor flaw
Overall the saw has sufficient power and battery life. It is robustly constructed. The only thing to watch out for is that the drive gear in the last stage of the gear box transmits torque through a shallow pin or ball set into the shaft and a slot in the gear. This works fine for most use cases, but if you are cutting pavers and hit a stone in the aggregate, the energy of the sudden stop is sufficient to break that pin/ball. I suspect the same might happen if you hit a nail in a piece of wood. Up side the rest of the saw was protected from the sudden stop. Down side its broken till you take it apart and replace the pin. I never found the original, it might be stuck in the grease under one of the reduction gears. Other things to know: motor is commutated and air cooled, so if you are in a masonry trade that might limit the motor life. I don't think the brushes are replaceable. Repair tips: - if the vacuum attachment is not working look in the attachment hole in the guard, there might be flashing from the injection molding blocking the port, give it a light tap with a screwdriver and it will clear. (this might be intentional for people who don't wan tot use the attachment... have to find the manual again to be sure) - if your trigger is binding (only happened to me after taking it apart and putting it back together) back-out the screw nearest to the trigger just a bit, that will fix it. - pin is ~3mm (just under 1/8 inch) in diameter - closes I could find was 1/8 inch and had to sand it down a tad. I happy with it, but then I'm comfortable taking it apart. I figure the average user is not going to be happy doing that, hence the 3 stars. ... show more

    • A little weak for the job
Update: I think the problem may have been a weak battery. I need to charge the battery after every small cutting job, and then the saw works OK. Consider getting a larger battery if offered. I found this saw to be weak in cutting almost any thickness of board. Today, it struggled to cut vinyl tile. Plus, the slightest veering from a straight line -- such as in cutting a sheet of quarter-inch plywood -- will pinch the blade and the saw stops. I am also annoyed it's not user-friendly. For example, the distance from the blade to the edge of the saw base is not an easy measurement, such as one inch, or one and a half inches, etc... That means, trying to set up a guide board to run the saw along requires working in increments of sixteenths inches. ... show more

I would like to know why the laser worked for the first 2 times and now it seems the batteries are no good. I did not leave it on. I should not have to buy new batteries already. Please advise.
