On the 1/2 pound had to buy my own straps to wrap around back of the skates so weights didn’t shift to the toe of the skate where as the 1lb weights come with straps .So I liked the 1lb weights better than the 1/2 lb .Need to include straps for both weight sizes.

    • great idea for improving ice skating

After receiving the weights, I almost wanted to return them because they felt light. I didn't think they will help much with my son's skating. But I decided to have him try for couple of weeks first. He didn't feel anything different on ice with the weights and skates normally without any interference. The weights stay on the skates very well after an hour practice. After removing them 2 weeks later, my son felt much lighter when skating and can skate faster now. It blows my mind that such small weights can make this huge difference. My son is 8 and weights around 70 pounds. He says he does not feel any difference from having them on his skates as compared to not having them on at all. The weights do not stay directly over the laces. No matter how tight I get them they sag down over his toes by the end of practice. He has been skating for 6 years now and knowing how they work now I probably would have gotten the one pound set for him. ... show more

This product was exactly what I thought it would be. The weights are painted bright red, just like the image, and is a solid coat of paint. It doesn't look like it will ever chip or wear. The velcro is heavy duty. It was difficult to separate the first few times we used them (which is good because you don't want them coming loose during use). They attach to the skate and stay put. We got the 1.5 lb and my son said he barely felt them at all while he was skating, but he felt a difference when he skated again without them. This works well for hockey skates, but I was hoping to use them for roller blades as well. Unfortunately, the straps don't fit well under the boots. This might be a bad reason for knocking a star off, but...

    • Surprisingly Effective
It was amazing how just .5lb. Made a difference in my kids skating. Very simple on/off and came with a mesh bag so they dont get separated in the bottom of the hockey bag.... assuming your kid actually takes the time to put them in the mesh bag. Worth the buy.
