I bought this as a DC power supply, to run a car amps in a test setting. My setup out of the box for the powermax 100 amp was directly connected to the amp ( brx1116.1d by hifonics ) running 2 paired, svc 10 inch 300watt rms speakers ( the amp is 700watt rms at 2ohms ) . The initial power draw (just providing on-the-board power ) puts the powermax in 14.3v phase at less than 1.0 amp draw ( never noticed a drop to the powermaxs lower states (trickle charging ) during any point while the amp was powered). With no music and system powered up the converter ac/draw was less than 1 amp. It appears to be quite efficient with the conversion and power utilization. I was thinking about putting a battery as a buffer for power/draw at first but noticed zero sag in initial testing. The converter had the "new" burn in smell of transfer heat being applied to new components but didn't ever get hot, even pulling around moderate ac/DC amps. Everything seemed to run smooth in the first 30 minute test run. I would recommend this product for use on a test bench as the output power is very clean. I'm considering doing a longer test run but didn't have the time. I'll try to do a quality/sound test with a cap between converter and amp to see if there is any noticeable difference in sound, which I'll try to post later. While this is intended as a rv battery charger ( apparently ) it runs without the traditional humm. It would appears the internal components are quite different from a regular charger. To be honest, there is no sound from the unit. The setup ran like a camp without any background interference. As for rv battery charging and maintaining...I can't imagine anything but awesomeness from this unit.

I got the PM3-100 (100amp) to replace my lame 13.1v 45amp charger-converter in my class A 2001 Rexhall motorhome. The new converter was easy to install, especially since I replaced a previous converter so all the wires were ready for connecting: - AC cord to an AC socket - Chassis ground to the Bonding Lug - Coach 12V (+) and (-) to the output ports on the converter - 4 screws (not supplied) to anchor the converter to the floor You can tune the output DC voltage using a screwdriver through one of the sidewalls. On the same sidewall, you can switch between 'fixed output' and '3 stages' charging. I tuned the output to 14.6v as was instructed in the manual (and also on my 6v batteries spec (I have two inline = ~12v)). The converter started charging the batteries while maintaining 14.6v on the output port which is noteworthy. The converter has a fan that turns on and off to prevent overheating. The fan is very quiet. In the attached video it sounds loud since my phone was very close to the fan but in reality, it's a weak hissing sound (similar to a computer fan). After charging the batteries for a while, the voltage switched to about ~13.5v to maintain the battery charge. Following the first few hours of use, it seems that the converter works flawlessly and according to spec. I'm very pleased with the purchase. Discovering that it's pretty small and relatively light was a nice bonus.

I've been using the 100 amp charger for a few months now to charge up a couple of 200ah lifepo4 batteries for mobile work. It takes just a little over 2 hours to fill one up (the batteries throttle the charge for the last little bit). It's been very reliable and consistent. The bolt-on outputs made it very easy to connect some nice heavy wires. The fan runs when it's charging, but it isn't super loud.

1. This converter came without paper instructions. You have to scan a QR code and either save it to your phone or print it out. I had to save it to my phone because I didn’t have a printer handy. It’s aggregating to try and read the instructions off your phone while trying to set the voltage on this converter. How much would a one sheet instructions cost to include in the box?! 2. The “A” switch doesn’t have a switch button. You have to take a micro screwdriver and move the selector, which is recessed inside the box and almost impossible to see. And it’s a tiny piece of cheap plastic that doesn’t have set stops that click to let you know you’ve made a selection—it just slides, so you don’t know which of the 3 settings you’re on. It would cost pennies to put an actual switch on this switch “A” and properly label the 3 settings. 3. Switch “B” is even more cheap and flimsy than switch “A”. It’s a tiny plastic Philips screw that needs a Phillips head screwdriver that you find in eyeglass repair kits. Yes, it’s that tiny. And it also does not have max or min start or stop points. You can’t even tell if it is turning or not. If you turn it too far left or right, the green status light goes off and you just keep turning it until the green light comes back on. 4. I followed the instructions multiple times to set the voltage at a constant 14.6 volts to charge my lithium batteries but it would never go higher than 13.6 volts. So I’m giving up and I’m going to return this and find another brand that actually has switches you can see, read and move them.

I went to the RV dealer after the power supply stopped working in the class A while on a excursion to our favorite campground. I figured this would be a easy purchase and they would have a unit in stock. When the sales clerk looked up the price I glad I had looked on Amazon and had priced these units before shopping. To my amazement the RV dealer had a comparable replacement at twice the price in stock and could order a exact replacement for our Fleetwood at three times the Amazon price. Well that was a no sale. I returned to the RV and broke out the trickle charger. It made a temporary fix and averted an unpleasent camping trip. I ordered the power supply I viewed online and was happy I did. The unit was offered at many different output ratings but not the exact output as the original. So the one I purchased was a larger value then the original. After arriving home the unit was there waiting on us. It was installed in a matter of minutes and the RV was ready for our next adventure. Thank you for such an affordable offering.

I have a degree in EE and have been active in the electronics and electrical field for 40+ years. I live off grid by choice. I have wind, solar, a huge honk'in battery bank, a dependable 30Kw Onan, and dependable battery chargers for those days of no wind/solar. I have, over 20+ years, used most of the premium 55A through 100A converters/battery chargers. These PowerMax units are survivors and are deserving of a 5 star rating. I own an older version (>2 years old) and a newer version <1 year old). The older version has fused outputs of 120A (3x 40A fuses), no external voltage adjustment, and no switch to choose a fixed or 3 stage charging scheme. The newer version has fused outputs of 80A (2x 40A fuses) and does have the externaly accessible voltage adjustment and charging method switch. Both units are feed by a 30Kw Onan generator. Which exhibits a nearly perfect 120V RMS (169V p-p) sinusodial 60 Hz wave pattern under load. Yes I have an O-scope to take this reading and yes the Onan lets me trim the voltage to perfection. These are the only chargers I'm aware of that can be connected in series to charge higher voltage battery banks. My four (4) star rating is due to the following: 1) both units exhibit a charging rate of ~65A when cold which falls to ~55A when hot regardless of battery bank voltage (10.5V - 15.1V). These are mounted on a wall with plenty of fresh ambient temperature air so it is not an external heat limitation. 2) The above readings were taken off a calibrated 500A shunt. 3) the newer unit could not possibly output > 80A's without blowing the 2 fuses on the back. 4) so by definition these are not 100A capable, thus the 100A rating is BS. Having said all of the above, when they become available on Feb 28 2018, my intention in the near term is to purchase 2 more. Ultimately, I will likely own 8x of these durable, predictable units. Bottom line: Do they output the advertised current? No, not even close. Would I recomend these above other makes/models based on durability and cost per real Amp output? ABSOLUTELY!!! Are the new models more configurable and adaptable to different charging scenarios? Absolutely

I bought 2 of these to hook together in Parallel to get 200 Amps for a CB linear and they work perfectly! If you are trying to do the same, here is some info for you. When you hook these together in parallel (both reds hooked together and both blacks hooked together, then those cables hooked to your amps power leads) you need to set the tiny switch on the side of each power supply to "constant" voltage and then turn the other tiny switch with a flat head screw driver to adjust the voltage to 14 volts (or whatever your CB linear calls for). If its hard to get them set to exactly the same voltage just get them as close as you can, it doesn't have to be EXACT, but you do need to be as close to the same as you can get. Don't be discouraged when only 1 power supply lights up, that's normal. When you key up you will see the 2nd power supply light up when the extra amperage is needed. Be sure to give the power supplies room to breath, they might get a lil warm. :)
