  • Solid Brand with Consistent Quality
Color: Mist
I like PowerA controllers, and I've owned several. They work great and feel good. I can definitely recommend them. *BUT* there is 1 big caveat I need to call out: Longevity. I'm not saying these fall apart and you should avoid them, but I have had consistent failures after about 18 months of use (which again, is maybe an ok life span, since they get used a lot). The most common mode of failure is a stuck button (almost always the A button, since it gets pressed the most in a lot of games, but I've also had it with X or B). It doesn't completely break your game, but if you need to double jump, for instance, and the button won't pop back up for half a second, that's a problem. Worse still, it indicates that button will die completely. They get to the point where you have to pry the buttons back up because they won't pop up. If you have multiple controllers, you can swap out some membrane and fix things, but it is a bit irritating to do. The second most common mode of failure is stick drift. This happens on every brand of controller I've had since the Nintendo 64, so it isn't unique to PowerA, and again the life-span for me seems to be about 18 months before something fails, so it's still a decent price. While you can take the controller apart and replace a stick to fix drift, it isn't as easy a fix as a button membrane, and the replacement parts are a little more costly, so it usually isn't worth the effort for a novice. Ok, so those last 2 paragraphs might sound disparaging, but keep in mind that: - I am still actively replacing controllers with this brand of controller because it's been better than other brands and lasted longer than other brands - I recommend this controller to people - I'm rating it 4 stars, which isn't bad - I love the feel of the buttons and triggers, so the build quality is excellent (whereas a lot of controllers have mushy buttons to begin with) ... show more

  • Not an OG Madcat type controller
Color: Mist
Great controller if you don't mind being wired in. I actually feel the joysticks have held up a bit better then some of my actual Microsoft controllers. Sounds silly , could be placebo but I burn through these pretty quick playing NHL, Madden, Forza etc and then they develop dead zones and stick drift. This is a cheaper solution that solves the annoyance of l3 / r3 clicks for me. Also I have owned an elite controller, and Razer controller in the past (wolverine and wildcat). I am heavy handed and it's specific to games I play a lot but if you also play those games alot and don't feel like replacint your joysticks, soldering and sit at a desk or near your TV this is a great option. ... show more

  • Worked great, then it didn't
Color: Mist
Controller worked great and was nice to have the extra buttons, but then one day the right thumbstick tweaked out and pulls up when playing a game. I tried taking the controller apart, but it isn't built like regular 360 controllers. Looks like I'll have to order an official XBOX controller.

  • Durable
Color: Mist
I feel like this controller has a little input lag, but as a result of that lag, I've tested it's durability, and I can attest that it can take some thumps and still functions. Good overall.

  • UPDATE: Controller issue and customer service quality
Color: Mist
This review is written on 12/2 and will be updated when necessary in a few days. UPDATE (original post below): Written on 4/11/2023. After approximately 90-100 hours of use, the new controller sent to me has developed the exact same issue. Does not appear that the stick troubles are flukes, but rather an inherent design flaw. Very disappointed as it worked fine for the first couple of months, just like the first one. Dropping the rating to 2 stars now as the product seems to have a fatal flaw. Will not be ordering this again, nor will I be working towards a replacement, as the hassle to do that every couple of months is not worth it. I would advise looking for something else. For context, I used this controller on PC for Apex Legends Controller: I bought the white controller as a budget option despite me putting around 4 hours a day into using it. It felt great on arrival and continued to perform like new until around 100 hours of use (only about a month). At this point the first issue I found was that the B button felt like it stuck a little bit after being pressed, but it did always come back up in time for me to use it in pretty rapid succession and did not end up affecting gameplay. There was some slight stick drift on the right stick but it was nothing I couldn't fix with some inner deadzone settings tweaks. The right stick troubles continued, however, as it began to have an issue I have never seen before in my more than 12 years of controller gaming experience. When the LEFT stick was given any input (anything but sitting still), AND the right stick was also moved around, the right stick would snap off to the left and right uncontrollably, regardless of my input. At first I noticed only slight snapping to the left and right, for instance I would push both sticks forwards and my character would begin looking upwards but with jitters to the left and right. Noticeable, but still very much playable with. Within another 3 days of playing, however, the problem worsened to the point of completely being unable to use the controller. When moving the left stick, the right stick had a mind of its own. I checked an online controller calibration tool to make sure that it was the controller and not the game and it confirmed my suspicions, the controller was defective and shooting off random left and right inputs without any regard for the inputs I was giving it. This was a bummer but I filled in a support form on the PowerA website and I was extremely impressed. Customer Support: After filling out the form on the PowerA website (which I reached using Amazon's "Get product support" option) I received a standard automated reply about how long I should expect to wait for a reply, 2-3 business days. I received a reply later that same day from a human being asking me for some more information and letting me know that once I provided them some product numbers, proof of purchase, and some photos, they'd get right to verifying my warranty and replacing the product. I sent in the information and got a reply in 2 more days that all checked out and they would be sending my replacement once I selected an alternate color (the one I purchased was out of stock, they gave me the option of ANYTHING else they currently had available). It was very easy to find a new color I liked, emailed the selection back, and got confirmation that they would begin the shipping process as quickly as possible, but could take up to 3 weeks for me to receive my replacement. A long time but everything they've said so far has been very human, very genuine, very straightforward, and very prompt. I wait not even 24 hours until I'm sent the shipping information with a FedEx tracking number. When I check the tracking number I'm pleasantly surprised to find that the controller is due the next day (tomorrow!). It was undoubtedly the best customer experience I've ever had, and I will rave about it for anyone else who needs recommendations for controllers. When the next controller arrives I will update the review to reflect if the controller issues continue, and if customer support is needed again. Until then, I am very pleased to have had such a good customer support experience, that I'm giving them a 5-star rating despite a defective controller. ... show more
