  • Enjoy it for what it is
Color: Black
This wheel is currently $25 (with coupon). A “big girl” pottery wheel with a motor capable of traditional pottery wheel techniques like centering is going start at just under $200. This wheel is good for playing around and making small pottery like small bud vases. It can’t take much downward pressure, so you won’t be making a mug or a flower pot on it any time soon. If you’re into making tiny pottery or microwave kiln pottery, and you want to save space, this is a good solution. The integrated splash pan is a necessary touch and designed well. For those who are having trouble getting your clay to stick and centering, look up “making tiny pottery on electric wheel” on Youtube for tips and tricks. There’s a method to the madness. ... show more

  • An afternoon of creative fun for the family
Color: Blue
This was definitely an entertaining activity to do for the afternoon. The wheel rotated fairly smoothly and having the variable speeds helped. Also, the fact that it comes with it's own drip tray to catch the water is fantastic and really helps to contain the mess, which every parent is going to appreciate. The two clay packets are sufficient to create two small pottery items. Instructions are not bad. Making sure the clay remains wet BUT not too wet is a bit of challenge without experience, and also handling the wheel and not having the clay twist up on itself is also not as easy as they make it look in the movies (cue 'Unchained Melody', Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze). After a couple of days, the clay dried completely . It's nice to be able to create something that doesn't require a kiln, and the provided paints have a nice range of colors for decorating. We had a number of family members try, ranging from 6 years old and up to 40, with varying degrees of success, but everyone had a good time. One packet of the clay got repurposed several times and ended up being too wet to hold a shape. I've left it in an open bag hoping it will dry out and be usable. I have not yet investigated where I can acquire more of the clay but going with the assumption that it won't be too hard to find, I think that this little pottery wheel will be great for future arts and craft afternoons. ... show more

the clay is fun but the turntable does not work well. not kid friendly. The clay just falls off the table on the lowest speed and you cannot shape or form it.

  • Big kids will enjoy too
Color: Black
I got this pottery wheel for myself because I loved ceramics in high school and am thinking of getting back into it. This pottery wheel is a great, inexpensive way to see if it’s a hobby I want to pursue or great for the kids to check out pottery. This wheel is small and it has one knob that functions for on/off as well as the different speeds. It has a cord and can be used plugged in or unplugged due to the rechargeable battery in the base. The wheel doesn’t go very fast and is a bit noisy but it does what it is supposed to do. The kit comes with everything I may need to get started including two pounds of air dry clay, clay tools, a wire to cut the project from the wheel, a sponge, paints and paint brushes. This is a wonderful starter/refresher kit. My Amazon rating system- Five stars-Great item. May have a minor flaw that does not detract from appearance or function. Four stars-Great item. Flaw or problem more noticeable. Or, price may be high for what it is. Three stars-Good item. Has a flaw/problem that requires more work than should be invested in a product. Two stars-May be a good item with work. Or, doesn’t work for me but may for someone else. One star-Nope. Doesn’t work for me and probably won’t for anyone else. ... show more

  • Broke upon first use
Color: Blue
Well that's $35.98 I won't be getting back. Broke the first time my 9 year old grandson used it. The ball bearings came out from the wheel area before the wheel came off. It was unfixable. Select another pottery wheel. This was a birthday gift for my grandson. I will buy him a different kit as he had his heart set on working with clay. ... show more

  • Not just for kids!
Color: Black
My 11yo, who has autism and normally spends as much time as possible playing video games, spotted this while I was browsing Vine and begged me to get it for him. When we received it, he then begged for us to let him try it out and helped clean to make a space for the magic to happen. He patiently watched videos to learn how to use a pottery wheel and then lost himself for several hours in working with it. I am amazed at how much he took to this wheel. Now, he didn’t finish any pieces. His bowl-like work collapsed on itself as the edges thinned while spinning, and he gave up on it after he failed to repair it. I’m not sure yet if he’ll return to try it again another day, but I’m thrilled that he got so much use out of it already. Then my husband took a turn, and like his son, he lost himself in designing a piece for a long time. His piece also eventually collapsed, but he enjoyed the experience and plans to work with it again sometime. My 8yo and I watched all this with anticipation for our own turns as well, and I look forward to when we get the time and energy free to enjoy it. The pottery wheel and clay work well. There is definitely a steep learning curve to using it, and I strongly recommend watching some tutorial videos before starting. Even the video on this listing shows you things I hadn’t known, like the importance of keeping a bowl of water nearby to dip your hands into to while working so your piece remains malleable and your hands stay slick. They also demonstrate how to use the wire string to cut your piece free of the wheel when you’re done. I’m very pleased with this pottery wheel and hope you get to enjoy it too. ... show more
