  • Easy to use, but, read the instructions first.
Yes, a beginner can handle this, but, in my case, my mother taught me well on her old mechanical Singer. You need to read and keep the instructions! After reading and learning to thread it? Darned a pair of socks in no time, which is the main reason I got it. I used to repair my socks by hand, and believe you me, this little(?) machine can get it done, very tight and close stitching. I can see this machine working well for beginners in learning to sew. I love it! ... show more

  • Great for occasional simple tasks, missing buttonhole foot
I've been wanting a new sewing machine for years, but the good full size ones have been so expensive. Since I mostly just need to hem my pants, I've been doing it by hand. I'm really glad I got this machine. It is meant for beginners, but it's also great for those who just need a machine for occasional simple tasks. If you've had a machine before, you will adapt to this one quickly. All the controls are where you'd expect, and labeled as usual. The foot pedal cord is about 4' 5" and the power cord is about 5' 8". There are a lot of extra pre-threaded bobbins, mini-spools, and extra needles. However, there is no buttonhole pressor foot included, though the pictures show one. The bobbins are a standard full size, and metal. The smaller size machine also has the advantages of being more portable and taking up less space, yet it is big and hefty enough that it feels like full size. The pedal cord and power cord are a little thin and delicate looking, but the rest of the construction seems strong and durable. There is even a little space between the work table and the base so you have a bit of a free-arm for sleeves and pants. I think it is a good value considering how much sewing machines currently cost. ... show more

  • Low cost and easy to use for simple jobs.
This machine is perfect for my simple needs. Virtually every pair of pants for my family needs to be hemmed. A few pairs of jeans and the cost is recaptured. Relatively simple to use and does a good job for what I need. You tube videos showed me what I needed to effectively use it. It's small size makes storage when not in use simple and it's light weight makes for easy handling. I would buy it again. ... show more

  • Affordable, beginner‑friendly machine that’s perfect for getting back into sewing after a long break
I used to sew a lot when I was a teenager, but life happened. I no longer had access to a machine, and I never really got back to taking sewing seriously. Lately I’ve wanted to return to it, but I couldn’t justify spending a lot of money on a full size, fully featured machine until I knew whether this was still something I enjoyed—and something I was still capable of doing. I decided to start with this smaller, beginner friendly sewing machine, and I’m really glad I did. This machine is clearly designed for beginners and casual sewers, but it doesn’t feel like the cheap machines I’ve tried in the past for basic mending. Those often felt flimsy or unreliable. This one actually works, and it works well. I tested many of the stitches and had good results. The stitches are basic, but that’s exactly what I want right now. I’m not ready for anything complicated or fancy, and this machine suits my current needs perfectly. The storage drawer is a nice bonus, and I appreciated how well stocked the machine was when it arrived. It came with 18 spools of thread with matching pre filled bobbins, in addition to the spool and bobbin already threaded on the machine. There are also five extra needles in different sizes, a tape measure, two threaders, a thimble, a seam ripper, and a small pair of scissors. It was more than enough to get me started without needing to buy anything else right away. There is a cutout in the body of the machine that creates a sort of free arm, which makes it easier to sew items that aren’t flat, like cuffs and sleeves. This was a feature I didn’t expect on a smaller machine, and I expect it will be very useful. The instructions are quite good, with lots of clear illustrations and some photos. I felt they explained things well, and much of it started to sound familiar from my earlier sewing experiences. Most of the controls are in the same places I remember, which really helped with the transition back to using a sewing machine. I use this machine with a lamp and magnifier that clamps to my table, which I would recommend for users who may need a little extra light or magnification. Overall, the machine feels sturdy, though there are a few plastic parts that will need to be treated with care. That hasn’t been an issue so far—basic sewing benefits from a gentle touch anyway. I like that I can relearn sewing without spending a lot of money on a full size machine and all the accessories that often go with it. I was able to get started immediately without a trip to the store for supplies. This machine has been a good choice for getting back into sewing after a long break. ... show more

  • Absolute NOPE!
Where do I start? This machine has so many flaws that I am dumbfounded! 1. After removing the test swatch loaded for appearance that the machine potentially works, every failure possible ensues! 2. As I have used many sewing machines over the years, I know that cheap thread is one of the most common reasons for sewing mishaps. However, after removing the test swatch, I gave it a try with the “cheap” supplies. 1st NOPE as machine locked up and caused a clump beneath. 3. Removed cheap thread provided and rethreaded spool and bobbin with higher-quality I typically use. 2nd NOPE. Still clumped and stopped working. Pried pieces of fabric and knots out once again. 4. Switched to a different thread and metal bobbin, to a clear plastic bobbin. Locked up again. More clumps to fish out. (Tried other fabric options as well during this.) 5. After several hours of trying various threads…metal vs. plastic bobbins, adjusting tension…I decided to throw in the towel. Told husband that I should at least try to load a bobbin. “Almost” the last NOPE! 6. After confirming the specific process to thread a bobbin on this machine at the top of pg. 10 in the manual, I placed the bobbin, then pushed into the pin/stopper and immediately noticed the bobbin tilted at an angle. Final NOPE! Could not get the bobbin threaded after a dozen attempts. *Final thoughts on my unusually long review: If I could give negative stars I would! Based on the price listed for this sewing machine as far as value, I would personally opt to add a few more bucks on a higher-quality machine to avoid the hassle of trying to get this one to function. Time wasted + frustration = zero value! ... show more
