  • lays down like butter
This grey polymax PLA is some of the best PLA I've used. I've tried Hatchbox, Sunlu, Tech bear, Geetech, and a few others, and this by far checks all the boxes. I'm using and ender 3 v2 at 207 degrees, with a 55 degree bed. Retraction set to 5 mm at 45mm/s and 27mm/s speed with a .2 mm nozzle. The detail I'm getting on my D&D miniatures is stunning. Like resin quality. This has little stringing once you get your settings dialed in, leaves minimal layer lines and is a bit more flexible than PETG and seems stronger than ABS. The only negative is that it seems to pick up moisture after a couple of weeks of use. Drying it in a Sunlu drier helps a bit but the older it gets the harder it gets to work with. All that said I tried the black color as well and it was way more difficult to work with like printing with roof tar. Finally got it dialed in using a .4 mm nozzle so not all colors may perform the same. This also works well for larger prints with a .4 mm nozzle and .2 mm layer heights. Strange though I had to lower the temperature to 202 when using the .4 mm nozzle. ... show more

  • 2 Rolls Good, 2 Rolls Bad
**Update September 2021** Awful and unreliable. The two replacement reels were as bad as the two I returned. One managed to jam my printer so badly it is now out of alignment (I got stuck on a call during a print and 10 mins was all it took to damage my printer). I have no idea what is going on at Polymaker, but buyer beware. This filament is substandard and may cause damage to your printer. **Previous Review** The first two rolls of black PLA were fantastic. Good adhesion, no real warping, clean prints. The finish is less glossy than other PLA I've used, which I liked. I was able to print 28 pieces of my project in a row without any issues whatsoever. The pieces take about 3 hours each, so the printer was running non-stop for several days. I ordered two more rolls. Unfortunately, these have been awful. Both rolls are poorly wound. The filament snags on itself as it tries to print. The best case has been that I got half a print and a ball of extruded fuzz. I've also had the filament reel jam hard enough that the filament snapped. The worst case threw the entire printer out of alignment, which was a pain to resolve. So far, out of two reels I've managed one single successful print. Every few minutes, I have to go and unspool the reel for a few feet and gently wind the filament back on to the reel. Very disappointing. I switched to Polymaker after bad experiences with another cheaper brand. I was hoping for better. However, my initial results were good enough that I will try returning/exchanging the bad reels. We'll see if this was a rare occurrence or a regular problem. ... show more

  • Smooth as glass, no layer lines possible but some warping occuring
Color: 0.75kg Pla, White Material Type: Polylactic Acid
Flows smooth as liquid glass; bonds well to itself and adheres well to the bed. With a low layer height like .1 or lower it can produce prints that are perfectly smooth and essentially have no visible layers. Very impressed with that. Assume this is from incredible quality control on the width as well as the material properties. I've also read that you can do acetone smoothing this this material but have not tried it yet. Still having a major problem with warping and coming up from the bed. (See photo) Given the precision I need in my robotic parts, this doesn't cut it and at the cost, every fail is expensive. Some models I currently cannot print as the top corners of the models come up causing layer shifts. (Will likely have to rotate the print and use support, ug....) I've tried lowing the temp to 190C and using PVA glue slurry but neither has helped. If I get a moment I will reach out to the manufacturer to see if they can direct me. I'm stuck using brims to compensate for the moment. Color is not a bright, in your face white. It has move of a natural look to it than say the Inland White. If you want a cartoonish, bright, pop off the page white, this isn't it. I personally prefer this shade however. The packaging on this is incredible and something that should become an industry standard. Definitely a step above. The spool itself is transparent which helps see what you have left. Additionally there is a dual layer guage with measurements in grams and meters directly on the spool. Ingenious and a much needed improvement. Nice to just glance over and see how much filament you have left. ... show more

  • My Favorite PLA
It's not just because it's strong, or because it might be the easiest to print filament ever, it's the quality of the prints. This filament wants to be turned into something awesome. it's so forgiving with temperature and build plate adhesion. Finished prints look so good. It's fantastic for kitchen stuff. I've made a ramen bowl, spoons, forks, plates. It's great for parts. You can sand it. You can carve it with a knife like a wood. You can glue it after sanding it. You can paint it. This is the wonder PLA. I love this stuff so much. I have it in most colors. It's fantastic for printing DnD dice. It's also really great at high speed. I can print it up to 90mm per second on the Super Racer and still put down perfect layers with amazing adhesion. At high speed it really likes 225 at the nozzle and 63 on the bed. At lower speeds 220 is fine. You'll just get some clicking/slipping sometimes at 220 if you are printing over 80mm per second. This stuff bridges insanely well. I have a huge orange Art Skull from Thingiverse that's just flawless, and it's like a bridging torture test. It's pretty too when printed. Very vibrant colors. PETG is still my favorite, but this is my goto when I don't need the heat resistance or outdoor/sunlight durability of PETG. ... show more
