  • Good price, good kit, works well, easy to use
Item Package Quantity: 10
This really worked for our really cracked CMU garden wall, and the price is right, everything in one kit. Crack was about 4.5 feet long, 1/8 to 1/2 inch wide in spots, and deep so took 2 cartridges. Was easy to use right out of the box with a cheap, common caulk gun. Tip: You really have to make sure you cover the crack with the epoxy paste but try to make it look decent and not all globbed up unless you have a grinder to take the mess down later. Would buy again if needed. ... show more

  • This just doesn't sit right with me
Item Package Quantity: 50
I'll first state that the quality of these plastic injection ports seems to be adequate for the task. I spot checked several of the 50 and did not observe any defects. However, I see absolutely no reason for the cost to be so exorbitant for something so easily made from inexpensive plastic. I'm experienced in ordering low volume, custom items from overseas. I understand that the tooling expenses can be a considerable investment (tens of thousands of dollars and up), however, on many occasions, the manufacturer will absorb those costs themselves in order to gain long-term partnerships with their customers. The caveat is that you do not own the tooling and, therefore, have to reinvest if you choose to end that partnership. That said, I'm also somewhat familiar with injection molding. For something this small and simple, it would only require two plates for a single injection step. Inject, let cool slightly, eject, repeat. Cheap. A friend of mine, a materials scientist, just bought a benchtop injection molding machine for around $13k. A small business could easily manufacture these in-house with a slightly bigger machine for $50K. Here's the thing. Polygem is a large, 40+ year old company. They claim to manufacture all their products out of Chicago. They have all the equipment they need already, likely long paid off. I consulted that friend of mine, and he crunched some numbers. Each shot of material is maybe $0.05. Let's say overhead is $0.02 (power, etc.). If packaging is around $0.10 (that's probably high because it came in a labeled, plastic bag), the total is less than $0.20/piece to make. They're asking for $90 for the 50-pack I got. That's $1.80 per piece, a profit margin of over 90%. Granted, Amazon gets their cut for selling on their platform, but that goes for every product on here. As an example, I searched for plastic garden stakes, which are made similarly and with more material used. In the first row of results, I found a 50-pack of 8in spiral plastic landscaping spikes. With two-day prime shipping, they're asking for only $9.99. You do the math this time. A company has every right to charge what they want for their product. This is America, and I love that we all have the freedom to do that. However, in this case, there are often alternative products or methods of repair. So, in my point of view, the cost of this product is not justified. In some cases, I suppose this method of repair is the best -maybe only- way to fix your foundation (or whatever). Well, I guess you're out of luck... maybe. Disclaimer for this next part: check your local building codes. This may or may not be an acceptable option: Suppose you had to fix a ton of cracks. Consider investing in a 3D printer for $100-$150. Print out as many flanged tubes as you like. (Don't copy this design. That's highly unethical.) Each one will cost you fractions of a cent. From there, use whatever structural epoxy you want. DO consider buying Polygem epoxy. Being around this long, they clearly know how to make a good product, and I love supporting US-based companies when it makes sense to do so. ... show more
