I drove my v1 voyager focus headset into the ground… using it all day, every day, for a few years. It worked awesome and I appreciated how well it held up and did everything I needed. Lately it went bad in one earpiece, and when I went to repurchase, I saw the v2 was out, bought it… and here are my findings. *** Overall *** If your v1 headset is working fine, or you have a choice between buying the v1 and v2, I recommend the v1. Don’t upgrade if you don’t have to. While the v2 is slightly more stylish, has a few new tricks and marginally better mic/speakers, the differences are not enough to overcome the frustration induced by the significant changes in the controls. *** Pros vs v1 *** • More stylish – There’s no arguing that it looks more refined. I won’t say it’s a HUGE change, but it does look nicer. • The sound is slightly better … a bit clearer and crisper. However the v1 sound was already good and you won’t notice the difference unless you’re an audiophile listening to music all day. • The mic is slightly better, but the mic on the v1 was already good and your coworkers won’t notice the difference unless you take your meetings on the street or in very noisy office environments. • It has an auto-mute on mic-up feature. If you rotate the boom upwards it will automatically mute your conversation, which is pretty slick. • It seems to mute my phone more dependably (one thing that frustrated me with the v1) • There is now a corded mode option. *** Same vs v1 *** • Roughly the same size (although they look bigger) • Connects well to two devices simultaneously • Still has great battery life • Charging stand works just as smoothly • Similar clear voice when something changes • Similar ear pads • Similar feel and pressure *** Cons vs v1 *** • The Stand – Your v1 stand will NOT work with v2. I know they look the same, and they function identically… but they’re not compatible. While the v2 headset is roughly the same size as the v1, the ear mechanism (the plastic part with the switches that sits outside the ear pad) has a larger circumference. It doesn’t extend past the ear pad, so it doesn’t increase the true size of the headset, but because it’s larger the v2 stand has a larger opening to accept it. You won’t be able to slide it into the v1 stand at all (believe me, I tried). • The Lights – I get what they were thinking, but I really don’t want my head lighting up like a Christmas tree while I’m wearing these. Like all devices with 20 different states supported by a single light, you will never remember what all the different combinations means. Solid purple? Pulsing red? Flashing red and blue? Who knows what it’s telling me??? I’d rather there be no light, or a simple light indicating on/off/charging, and that’s it. Now the v1 DID have colors as well, but Poly decided to make them really big and in-your-face with the v2. You cannot see them when you're wearing the headset anyways so what's the point? • The Port – So, when you buy this v2 headset, you have a choice of USB-A or USB-C. I assumed… ahem… that if I picked USB-C, the little port on the side of the headset for charging while I am traveling would accept… you know… a usb-c cord. Nope! So that USB signifier is for THE STAND. That’s right… if you pick USB-A you’ll get a stand with a standard USB cord coming out, and if you pick USB-C you’ll get a stand with a USB-C cord coming out (both permanently affixed). The port on the headset? Micro-USB in both scenarios. I’m sorry but this is a horrible design choice on their part. Micro-USB?!?! It’s 2022… come on Poly! • The Volume – You know that super-cool way you could toggle the earpiece on one side to change the volume? GONE! They replaced it with buttons (UGH). I LOVED THAT TOGGLE!!! • The Power Button – Far and away the worst design change on this headset is the power button. On the v1 model, the power button was this little nub that was really easy to find with your finger, and by applying a little pressure you could tell if it was in the on or off position. It worked great. The v2 model suffers from two poor design choices: 1) the power button is no longer a nub, but a nearly flat switch, and 2) they positioned this switch directly underneath where the boom mid sits when lowered (if on the left side of your face). So… when I try to find the power button with my finger, I both struggle to locate it due to the fact that it doesn’t stick out, and I have to maneuver my finger under where the mic sits. Then, I cannot really tell if it’s in the on or off position… maybe I’m supposed to remove my headset and look for blinking purple lights? This change annoys me EVERY SINGLE DAY. • The Controls –On the v1, the buttons were spread over both the left and right ear mechanisms. Most buttons had a dedicated, or near dedicated, purpose. In the v2, they’ve taken the 4 buttons and two volume directions and smashed them all down into 3 buttons on one side. You have dedicated volume up/down buttons to replace the toggle, and one (1) button to replace all FOUR of the previous controls (phone, play/pause, forward and backward). How do you toggle… by pushing the button multiple times to indicate which thing you want it to do. That’s right… press once for play/pause, twice for forward, three times for back, etc. WHAT?!?! I don’t know what they were possibly thinking. If that isn’t enough, they moved the horrible new power button AND the ANC switch to that same side. So all the controls are now condensed down to one ear, and the other ear has nothing. As a result, you need to have photographic memory to remember what button pushes where on the pad perform at what exact moment will do what you want. It’s a use case in poor product design. Like the light, you’ll never remember how to use it and it will therefore be mostly useless. *** Conclusion *** Does the headset work? Yes! Does it look and sound great? Yes! Will you be happy if you buy these without previously using the v1? Probably. Is it better than the v1… No. The v1 had great sound/mic along with amazing controls, and while a little less stylish it still looked really nice. The upgrades on the v2 are simply not worth the downgrades. ... show more

The headset is EXCELLENT except for a few things that bothered me enough to return it. I'm still giving it 5 stars because I feel it's a great product, just not me. Here are the GOOD things that jumped out at me: - The build quality; this is a lightweight yet substantial, sturdy feeling headset. - The stand; the bottom has a nice non-slip pad, and the headset slides on/off the charger with absolute ease. - The sound quality; I tested it with family members, and the noise cancelling and sound (as heard by me and the other person on the line) was fantastic. - The value; after spending days researching headsets, this is a good value. You can easily spend $300-$400 on competitor's headsets. Here are the BAD things that jumped out at me: - The non-flexible microphone; the microphone arm rotates (up/down) but doesn't rotate (in/out from your face). This complaint was fielded by another reviewer, and I agree with them. I felt as if it was too close to my face. There were times the microphone was literally brushing up against my cheek. It wasn't a problem as much as it annoyed me. - The ear pads; this headset offers active noise cancelling which I recommend using at setting #1 at home and #2 in the office. If you don't use active noise cancelling you'll get a bit of reverb which causes you to subconsciously talk louder than you should. The active noise cancelling isn't the problem. The problem is the ear pads are uncomfortable on calls lasting an hour or more. The ear pads started hurting and warming my ears. Sounds crazy, but I tried this for a week. I found a Jabra headset that was more comfortable, but it cost over $300, which is a bummer. I wish Poly would make a version of this with a flexible microphone and smaller ear pads. I find that if you're using a stereo/dual earpiece headset, you don't necessarily need active noise cancelling, so you can get away with smaller ear pads. ... show more

Pattern: USB-A Bluetooth Adapter Style: Headset + Charge Stand
I used the Voyager Focus V1 for many years - it's been a great headset, and is still going strong. I needed another headset, however, and decided to try the V2 version. the first one I received would not connect properly via bluetooth. It would say it was connected, but then as soon as the caller answered it would disconnect - while still saying it was connected (some other reviews allude to this problem). I returned it for a replacement after a couple of weeks of frustration. The replacement has worked flawlessly since I received it almost three weeks ago - I've used it daily, usually multiple times a day. The key V2 improvement over V1 for me is that the sound quality is better - both what I hear and how others hear me. The sound is crisper, so words are a bit more intelligible. Again, V1 was already great - but V2 is the improvement I didn't know I needed. Add to that improved battery life and bluetooth range, with a fit that feels very similar to V1, and you have a winner. I noticed many reviews surfacing an issue with how V2 replaced the V1 tactile on/off switch with an electronic button. Poly must have addressed this, because my phone has the tactile on/off switch - it's totally fine, as functional as the V1 switch. I also notice some reviews complaining that the volume level function has changed to up/down buttons on V2. I have zero issues with this, it works fine, just as easy to use as on V1, although now I press buttons instead of turning something. I don't use ANC, so can't comment on how good it is versus the virtually non-existent ANC on V1 - it's definitely better, but I don't know if it's good enough for those who need this feature.
