    • Excellent sounding center speaker in a small form factor

I wasn't expecting much in clear vocals from a small center speaker with six 3-inch drivers. This one surprised me with vocal clarity. When building a home theater sound system, you should always build from the inside out. First the center speaker, then mains, then surrounds. The center is so important because 90% of TV/movies is dialog and 90% of the dialog comes out of the center speaker. Don't worry about "timbre matching" ie using speakers all from the same company, always get the best center speaker you can afford. The Polk has high quality sound, and high quality goes with everything. The Polk ES35 combined with a couple of small bookshelf speakers was chosen to replace an expensive L/C/R sound bar that just had a tinny sound. It is powered by a new Sony AN1000 in a 3.1 setup. Space was a major issue to fit it under a 55" Sony TV in an enclosed space. The Polk fit perfectly my needs and it completely blew the soundbar away in every way it could. Music, dialog, bass, clarity. The speaker is all plastic but I would rate it as well-built. It had a good heft to and the plastic was not thin and cheap. It is rear ported but because of the design of the port, there is a small cage that sticks out of the back about two inches or so. You can put this speaker flush against a wall or in an enclosed space and the cage gives the port room to breath. Anyone wanting to hear better clarity for voices from their TV will like this unit. It does exactly what a good center speaker is supposed to do, allow you to listen to the TV without having to turn the sound all the way up. It's clear at all levels, even low sound levels. Anyone looking looking to replace TV sound or even a sound bar this is a major upgrade for $350. I can easily recommend it. ... show more

I was upgrading from my Polk T50's I've had for a while. First thing I noticed was really nice clear sound with some good low end. I've had these for a couple of weeks and have gotten happier and happier with the purchase as time has gone on. I was going to pop for the ES60's, I'm glad I didn't go that route because of the size difference. The size of these is perfect for my simple music room setup and I'm not missing the third driver. Could not more satisfied with the ES 35. The overall sound is so amazing and clear with low volumes while watching normal TV, and even better when watching movies. Looking forward to upgrading the rest of our surround system with the Polk ES20 for our surround speakers and ES 30s for our front left and right speakers. Love that it came in white. ... show more

Set these up on my computer to listen to music. Tried several different genres of music from rock, R&B, light rock, country and pop and I'm quite impressed! They are solid and certainly produce a solid sound at all the higher ranges. I'm not an audiophile by no means; just a music lover that appreciates nice sound quality and these deliver that for sure. I did plug in a rather cheap subwoofer to help with the lows, as these speakers do have good range, but the lows are rather weak. Add a simple subwoofer and wow, they fill up out the sounds so well. They feel solid and they are pretty heavy for their size. I'm using a cheap, no frills amp at the moment, but I'm planning to upgrade that and see if they shine even brighter! I bought the Polk ES35 center channel speaker to replace my very old Bose VCS-10. I knew that almost any good quality center speaker would be a huge upgrade. My choice was limited by the 6" vertical space I had to install the speaker, which excluded speakers with 4" or larger drivers, including the Polk ES30. The most interesting alternative I considered was the Klipsch R-30C, which is slightly larger, uses 3.5" drivers (the ES35 uses 3") and front-ported (the ES35 is rear-ported). I'm sure it would have been excellent. In the end, I simply chose the Polk because it looks better to me. And I love it. After fixing the center speaker I wound up updating all my other speakers as well. ... show more

    • A very good mid-range center channel speaker

This review is of the Polk Signature Elite ES35 Slim Center Channel Loudspeaker. It's exactly what I was looking for in a center channel speaker: low profile, good clear, crisp sound, and reasonably attractive. It is relatively unobtrusive sitting in front of a mid-size table-top flat-screen TV, doesn't block the TV's screen or remote sensor, and really helps to bring out the dialogue when watching TV or streaming movies. While it's certainly not Polk's top-of-the line, it's perfect for my purposes. I have it paired with a set of tower speakers and a subwoofer, so the quite limited bass response in this low-profile center speaker is not a problem. I'm not crazy about the plastic enclosure, but it looks and sounds plenty good enough. I see that the price has gone up a bit since I purchased mine in March, so now it's maybe not quite as good a value as before. ... show more

This unit is a replacement center channel and a great improvement. Sound is very clear and crisp. We were concerned about how it wood look over the fireplace on the mantle but that concern is history. Very happy with the performance and the looks.

    • Amazing mid tier speaker!!!

I will preface this review with the fact that I am not an audiophile, but I know what sounds good to my own ears. These Polk ES55's replaced a pair of BIC America 6.5 bookshelf speakers. Those, and a BIC America center channel speaker served me well for many many years in an 850ish square foot apartment, but once moving into a home, just did not have what I needed in terms of sound. These Polk's are in an approximately 14 x 20 ft room, and right out of the box I am in love!! I have them wired with a set of k4b Bi-Wire speaker cables, which are also amazing for the money. I am using these for a stereo set up only, mainly vinyl, with a Yamaha AS 501 integrated amplifier. They have exactly what I wanted, more bass, while maintaining the clarity that I love. Personally, I don't think an extra sub is necessary, They are perfect for what I need. I also have them right up against a wall due to space, and with the down firing port, they sound amazing. They also look amazing, I love the rounded tops, and they are beefy to boot, excellent construction. Find these on sale and they are well worth the money. ... show more
