I will preface this review with the fact that I am not an audiophile, but I know what sounds good to my own ears. These Polk ES55's replaced a pair of BIC America 6.5 bookshelf speakers. Those, and a BIC America center channel speaker served me well for many many years in an 850ish square foot apartment, but once moving into a home, just did not have what I needed in terms of sound. These Polk's are in an approximately 14 x 20 ft room, and right out of the box I am in love!! I have them wired with a set of k4b Bi-Wire speaker cables, which are also amazing for the money. I am using these for a stereo set up only, mainly vinyl, with a Yamaha AS 501 integrated amplifier. They have exactly what I wanted, more bass, while maintaining the clarity that I love. Personally, I don't think an extra sub is necessary, They are perfect for what I need. I also have them right up against a wall due to space, and with the down firing port, they sound amazing. They also look amazing, I love the rounded tops, and they are beefy to boot, excellent construction. Find these on sale and they are well worth the money. ... show more

The Polk Signature Elite ES20 bookshelf speakers are a were a great choice for my audiophile ears. If you are looking for high-quality sound at a reasonable price these are the speakers to buy. These speakers feature a Dynamic Balance acoustic array, precision crossovers, and Power Port bass-enhancing technology, all of which combine to deliver clear, detailed sound with deep, rich bass. The ES20s are Hi-Res Audio Certified, meaning they can reproduce audio up to 24-bit/192kHz resolution. This means you I enjoy my favorite music in all its glory, with no loss of detail. The speakers also have a wide frequency response of 41-40,000 Hz, so I can hear everything from the deepest bass notes to the highest treble notes. The ES20s are also very efficient, meaning they don't require a lot of power to drive. This makes them a great choice for people who don't have a lot of power available, such as those who are using them in a small apartment or bedroom. In terms of sound quality, the ES20s are simply outstanding. They produce a wide, spacious soundstage with excellent imaging. The highs are clear and detailed, the mids are smooth and natural, and the bass is deep and powerful. These speakers are perfect for listening to all types of music, from classical to rock to jazz. This review is of the Polk Signature Elite ES35 Slim Center Channel Loudspeaker. It's exactly what I was looking for in a center channel speaker: low profile, good clear, crisp sound, and reasonably attractive. It is relatively unobtrusive sitting in front of a mid-size table-top flat-screen TV, doesn't block the TV's screen or remote sensor, and really helps to bring out the dialogue when watching TV or streaming movies. While it's certainly not Polk's top-of-the line, it's perfect for my purposes. I have it paired with a set of tower speakers and a subwoofer, so the quite limited bass response in this low-profile center speaker is not a problem. I'm not crazy about the plastic enclosure, but it looks and sounds plenty good enough. I see that the price has gone up a bit since I purchased mine in March, so now it's maybe not quite as good a value as before. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. EDIT 2/11/2023: Over had these several weeks now. I’ve listened to them dozens of hours to all types of music I like. (Dance, classical, folk, acoustic guitar, metal, classic rock) They sound great for all genres. Occasionally, on bass-heavy dance music like Ace of Base, the bass is overwhelming with the tone controls set flat. In that case, I turn down the bass a bit and it’s perfect. On the other hand, a lot of recordings (old classical, for example) have weak bass, and these speakers compensate for that without the need to boost bass. I agree with Polk’s claim that they have 3 dB louder bass because of the great port design. (Though I can’t confirm the exact amount, of course) Most importantly is that the mids are faithful to the recordings now. (confirmed by comparison with good headphones listening) I love these speakers. They are an endgame purchase. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I bought a pair of S55s last year. They sounded good, with powerful bass, but the mids were always a bit weak. I compensated by dialing the bass and treble down to accentuate the mids; it helped,but not enough. It just gnawed at me. This year, I re-sold them at a huge loss and bought these. There is a YT video from a guy sitting in a chair next to the S55 to the S60; listen to him. He's 100% right. These ES60s are a 2.5-way design, which lets the top woofer handle the mids, while the bottom two are parallel to handle the bass. I'm powering them from my Onkyo A-9050 integrated amplifier. (75 W/ch) If you're powering them from an A/V receiver, they may sound distorted. Trust me, that is the cheap amplifier, not the speakers. Even higher-end A/V receivers don't compete, clarity-wise, to a quality stereo integrated amp. (or separates) The downward-firing port really opens up options for these speakers to be placed closer to the back wall in a smaller room. Compare this to most tower speakers with the rear-firing woofers that have to be 2-3' from the back wall not to sound too boomy. (not good booms!) ... show more
