I'm breaking down what this microphone is capable of before jumping into the board. The specs for this mic are as follows: * The STU1 is a 5V cardioid condenser microphone * mic capsule is 16mm * Response frequency range is 50Hz to 18KHz * Maximum SPL is 120dB * Sound to Noise ratio is 70dB * Sensitivity is -38±2dB (0dB=1V/Pa at 1KHz) What this means to a layman: The microphone is good for general voice and casual instrumentals (i.e. not for opera or orchestra). The response frequency is a good range, especially for the price, but the sensitivity is a little on the low end, meaning it won't pick up as much ambiant noise (e.g. quiet fans or birds chirping) while it will pick up on voices close to the mic. I'm guessing this is one of the reasons it includes a pop filter (which is a nice add-on). Podcasts and twitch streams will work great with this. Doing a demo tape of your songwriter skills will be fine. The quality won't be professional (i.e. you'll some nuances and tambre of the audio) but it sounded decent from my recordings and experimentation for speech and basic music (guitar). To get the most of this mic, since it is cartioid, speak towards the long, flat front of the mic - not into the top or from the back. For the board, it's a bit more than your basic and is also a decent beginner's piece of equipment. It inclues some annoying pre-recorded samples, but has some humerous filters that can change the voice to a high-pitch chipmunk or a low-pitch bear, a deeper "man" or higher "woman" voice. You can also turn on reverb and control it with a knob. The baseic dial equalizer along the top is nice as well. The board has two light modes: continuous (for those who just like pretty lights) and active (for those who want to know what mode is active). It's right next to the power button. The light meters in the center of the board are okay for getting the gist of what levels your dials are on the top of the board. I use a mac and was able to get this to work with the typical apps: Quicktime, Garage Band and Logic Pro. My other microphones have either been direct USB to XLR or straight XLR (requiring an interface to feed audio to the computer). This was an interesting, and nice, variant that takes the XLR port from the mic and sends it through a stereo 3.5mm jack. Overall, a good value-for-money ratio, and should be widely compatible considering the USB output from the board didn't require any drivers for the computer.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this mic and mixer combo, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised. The microphone feels solid and professional, and the audio quality is clear and warm right out of the box. The included shock mount and foam windscreen do a great job cutting down on noise and handling sounds. The Commander M100 interface is honestly the star of the bundle. It has all the controls I need laid out nicely. reverb, EQ knobs, sound effects, sliders, and even buttons for auto-tune and voice effects (fun for livestreams and kids programs!). Everything lights up and is easy to see, even in a dim room. Setup was plug-and-play with my computer and didn’t require any extra drivers. I’ve used it for recording spoken word, guitar, and livestream announcements and it’s handled everything really well.

I think this is a good podcast bundle for beginners or gamers. It is functional and easy to set up; it comes with everything you need to set the system up, including cables that work with your laptop or phone/tablet. I had no issues with plug and play on my devices, which are all IOS. Someone mentioned issues with Windows, so I don't know if that's an isolated incident or not, but definitely something to be mindful of if you're working with Windows. If you're connecting an instrument, you need to have a 1/4 inch cable, which you probably will if you work with a PA/monitor. The quality of the microphone and interface is quite decent for this pricing and the components feel pretty durable. I didn't really like the mic stand, but that seems to be a common frustration amongst users. The sound quality of the mic is good for beginners, but as a pro musician, I am missing frequencies and warmth that only expensive equipment can deliver. But I still think this is a great set for people who are testing the podcasting and music/singing/voice-over recording space and trying to learn on a budget. I think gamers will do well with this set. I like the different colored lights on the board, and the sound effects, auto tune and noise reduction features are a lot of fun. It does not come with a carrying case, but it does come with a user manual, which everyone should read when using this product to avoid any issues.

My son is really into streaming and gaming. We have been testing this out within the last couple of months. Although he is still building his confidence to become the next greatest streamer, this is perfect for someone that is just getting started. Mic sounds great and is clear, and there are lots of controls and options for sound control, voice changing features, different sounds like punching sounds, thumbs up, etc. It even comes with a pair of earbuds. Its compact design makes it convenient for small spaces. It’s an incredible value for the price, excellent quality, no connectivity issues and has plenty of features to keep them interested. If you have someone in your life that is into gaming or streaming and they are looking to get started this just what you need to not only take it to the next level but would make a great gift for that teen that has it all!
