I was skeptical of how well this would work due to reviews but can say that I 100% love it. I used my child's Kindle Fire 7 and it had no problem recognizing it. I unboxed the 3 tools and downloaded the app. It was easy enough to set up each kids profile at their level and off we went. We started with the numbers one and they both enjoyed answering the questions and they got to choose which game to play. The link games are fun since they're more of a puzzle in trying to figure out how many links you need to complete the tasks and move on. Lastly we tired the spelling and I was impressed. We did the Jungles OKO game and it was great in having them try to figure out how to spell each animal. We've only used it today but I see more learning and fun using this! We have Osmo little genius as well and I wish I knew about this before I purchased it b/c I wouldn't have even bought the Osmo one. ... show more

Extremely well built and sturdy App and optical detection works well Forced me to register with my email but that’s not unexpected now a days Following applies to Letters part only since I am yet to use other 2 sections No kid game should have only one of some letters. All letters should go up by 1 count. Work story ratio should have even easier (pre-pre k) option because even if kid is older, they would benefit from more welcoming introduction stories. Color and character selection is nice. Kids found it inviting. I had to remove ipad cover for it to stick easily. It would work with cover but I was afraid it was squeezing it too much. App was easy to navigate for kids Overall design is kid friendly. Plugo Link is better Plugo count is good so far. We got pieces some had minor stains, unclear if from prior use or coincidence. App uses way too much memory and game doesn’t accept new bigger size ipad ... show more

I am a retired elementary teacher. I have taught many students reading and math. I came across this item when shopping for items for my grandchildren. I bought the set and a kindle tablet to go with it and have spent several weeks running it through its paces. These are my findings: 1. The recommended fire tablet (Kindle Fire 7) DID NOT WORK! Once contacting Plugo, I was told to purchase the Kindle 8 HD that allowed for a vertical view. I had to wait several days to send the Kindle 7 back and receive the Kindle 8. Once it arrived, I again had trouble getting it to pair with Plugo. Again, I contacted Plugo and was told to ignore the directions to slide the tablet to the right, but instead slide the tablet all the way to the left. This seemed to solve my issues. 2. Plugo customer service seemed fairly prompt and helpful. The first time I called, I received no answer and was instructed to leave a message. While I did leave my name and phone number, I was never called back. All of the other times I called, someone answered. The representatives were attentive to my questions and were patient with me and my device as together we set it up. I was pleased with the level of support I received. 3) I liked that I could register several children on the app and keep track of each individual's progress and performance. This was important to me since I have more than one grandchild. LETTERS/WORDS 4. While the program allows the parent to pick whether they want the game to show all capital letters, or capital and lowercase letters, ALL of the letter tiles that the child uses are CAPITAL letters. As a teacher who had little ones that struggled with students that would write words with a mixture of capitals and lowercase letters, I found this shocking that Plugo would use only capital letters to instruct children. Lowercase letters are used ten times more often than capital letters and thus should be the ones used in instructing children. 5. I was hoping for a logical order of instruction in this program. That said, I expected Plugo to begin with letter sounds then move to practicing short vowel sounds as the child began building words. Since my grandchild has already mastered her letter sounds, I chose to place her at kindergarten level. The first game on the given selection was a water animal labeling "game". Here the child was shown a picture of a manta ray with the letter "r" given and the letters "ay" there but grayed out. The child was to put the tiles on the tray to spell out the word. Keep in mind this is the first word in the game. A beginning learner would not know that the "ay" sound makes the long a sound. The second word was the word "eel". While this is also a short three letter word, how would a beginner reader know that the word has two e's in it? Another game had like a crossword puzzle game. The student was shown a picture of a tie. They were given the letter "T" and two boxes to finish the word. A beginning student wouldn't understand that there is a silent e in the word and thus would get stuck after putting on the tiles "T i". I played a little bit of every game that Plugo offered. The videos were well done. They seemed to run well on my device, and I think they would hold a child's interest. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. When I made a "mistake" the program identified the mistake and allowed me to correct it and move on. My biggest disappointment was that nowhere in the game could I find any games that only focused on short vowels (CVC) words. Nowhere could I find any games that focused on long vowels (CVCe) words. Nowhere could I find any games that focused on word families, or any educational sequence of letters/words/sounds. This was the reason I had purchased Plugo. I wanted my grandchildren to practice and reinforce the skills that they were learning in the classroom. While Plugo did allow students to practice building words, they were just a hodgepodge mix of letter sounds with no logical order of introduction. NUMBERS 6) Plugo numbers were only slightly better. Plugo started very basic by asking for a child to place the number that it said on the finger. I thought that this was good for a preschooler. However, the program quickly moved to two groups of pictures and asked for which was "more/less". For this the child would have to count how many was in the first group, then count how many was in the second group and then recognize the number for the "more or less". Thats a big jump for a preschooler to move from just a simple number recognition. Another part that I really didn't like was the program would ask a math problem with a picture, but one of the objects in the picture would be mostly hidden behind a leaf or another object in the graphics. Why would Plugo set up a child in this way? This is a math problem, not a seek and find game. The program would then suddenly jump from counting to what would be considered simple addition or subtraction using objects. I am okay with this, but at this point mixing addition AND subtraction would only confuse a child unless an adult were there coaching the child between the difference between addition and subtraction concepts/symbols. There was nothing in the program to indicate the switching of gears. No X's on objects that were taken away or anything indicating that instead of putting this group together with that group we now want to subtract this group from that group. As a matter of fact I found this very confusing because it would show 5 balls on the right side of the screen and three balls on the left side of the screen and ask, "What is the difference? This was the question right after showing me one ball on one side of the screen and four balls on the other side of the screen and asking me, "How many balls in all?" These questions were followed by five balls on one side of the screen and six balls on the other side of the screen and the question asks, "which number is even?" All of these questions were on the same educational level as the "show me a two". I was shocked at the mixture of concepts thrown at a student all at once! STEM LINKS 7) As of the time of writing this review, I have not tried out the stem links. I may do so and update my review, at a later date. CONCLUSION I am really disappointed in this toy/app. I had such high hopes for it. The creators spent a lot of time for the cute graphics and game ideas but lost their way in the educational content. Because of the lack of any logical educational sequence, I cannot even recommend this as a guided (parent/child together) activity. ... show more

I love the idea of the system and my daughter loves it. I was disappointed that ours came with a nick in the connector mat and black pieces on and through the box. It is a neat idea but I wish there were more games but my daughter seems okay with it.

My niece and nephew, 1.5 & 4 years old each are absolutely in LOVE with this toy. After playing it for 1 evening my 4 year old nephew told me it's his favorite toy and it really got his imagination going and joy/fun factor up. The only issue we had was that the letters didn't work, I think it's because the living room was dim and the camera needed better lighting. The Link games were the best and math games were kind of rudimentary, but the math issue can be fixed by upping his grade level (he's very advanced at math). ... show more
