I ordered 10 yards of this to use for curtains. It does need to be washed and ironed before sewing, because it's a true muslin so it will have natural wrinkles as it hangs. It's more of a midweight fabric, allowing light to show through while providing privacy, ie, you cannot see through it. I love the way it hangs, and the way it diffuses light coming in from the outside. I started embroidering a few weeks ago and only had some very sheer, light, and stark white fabrics to start with. I decied to buy this and am glad I did. It's more sturdy and has a lovely natural off-white color. It's not too sheer or lightweight.
