  • 5 stars bc I made some upgrades to it.
Color: Grey
Package arrived on my neighbor's doorstep. It was delivered at 7 in the morning so I guess the delivery person was still half asleep. No damage to package though and it was delivered in the time frame promised... At least they took a picture of the door they left it at. Jeezus. As for the product itself, i didn't waste any time playing the PAL version of the games that came loaded in the console's system. No way i wanted to put myself through that pain. Also the selection of games is severely lacking imo. The console is so smol and baby but feels pretty sturdy. Still, treat it with care like you would your other consoles. I was disappointed with the controllers (x2) that came w it because no analog sticks lmao but they feel of good quality and are definitely usable. This is not the version where you can open the disc tray to put in game discs. Don't do it. Also, you need a usb power block/adapter. I used the one for my cell phone lmao and the system turned on just fine. This device only has 2 usb ports which is where the controllers plug into. It comes with an hdmi cable. You can easily watch reviews on youtube about this product as a stand alone and make your judgment. I had no intentions of using it as it was right out of the box after i saw in depth YouTube reviews and what people were actually using it for lol. UwU Upgrades: I used Eris on a usb stick, utilized an otg usb cable for more usb ports, and 8bitdo for wireless capability for my ps4 controller to use with this console. These modifications took this device to the moon and back for me. I absolutely love what I was able to turn this little guy into and all thanks to people out there who make these adjustments possible. I followed tutorials on how. Because of how smol this thing is, i can easily take it with me to different parts of the house. I was able to play some games on it with my brother this past weekend that we used to play as kids on the original ps1. I am very happy and feel like this console is a great little pet project. I had no prior exp w this stuff but am so glad i was able to take this baby to the next level and give it the justice that Sony freaking couldn't. ... show more

  • Great value now that modding has come to the system
Color: Grey
This system comes with 20 pre loaded PS1 games that seem to be chosen randomly, you get a few games of every genre, jrpg, racing, fighting, shooters, kids games, ect. The selection is wide and will probably put you out of your comfort zone, I’ve already discovered a few fun games I’ve never played back in the day. When the system was new, the “only 20 games” complaint was very valid, but you can now buy a modded usb stick with 100+ preloaded ps1 games for around 20$, far cheaper than collecting all the disks. If you’re good with computers you can also download whatever games YOU like and out them on a usb drive and they’ll run on your ps classic with the help of a YouTube tutorial. Adding your favorite games or getting a modded game stick is essential and something you should look into if you finish all the preloaded classic games you enjoyed. Came with two controllers that feel high quality and will take you back by simply holding. PS classic was packaged very well, adding to the “quality feel” of this official Sony emulator. You can get knockoff mini systems but they won’t look or feel as nice as this official one. I have never before complimented a manufacturer on the way they package their items, may not mean a lot to most manufacturers but Sony is a Japanese company and like toyota they want to express quality everywhere in the product. The ps classic boxes unfold like origami and neatly fold back together if you want to use the box to store your classic/travel with it. When I was opening my PS classic I couldn’t help but think how much money Sony would save in the long run just taping up all these boxes, but rather than deliver lower quality packaging they have a machine or person take the extra time to fold these boxes neatly so they come apart and go back together very nicely. It’s the little things that remind you you have an official item. Good job Sony, I can definitely understand why some people may be dissatisfied with the base 20 games, but it’s a non issue In the current year when you can buy modded sticks here on Amazon for more ps classic games. ... show more

  • Great Console for Playstation Enthusiasts and Historiand
Color: Grey
Games played: Final Fantasy VII, R4 Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3, Mr. Driller, Revelations: Persona, Intelligent Qube. Frame Rate: Don’t know what some folks are talking about because, save for one weird instance, I experienced no noticeable frame rate drops. That weird instance happened in FFVII when the camera panned up to show Mako Reactor 1 at the start of the game. Oddly enough loading into the battle screen is faster than the original release. But Tekken 3 and Ridge Racer, the games this arguably would be the biggest problem for, ran smooth. Save States: The main complaint I’ve heard is that each game only has one save state. While true this is misleading since, in addition to that, each game also has an accompanying virtual memory card. These work just like they did back in the day so, in addition to the save state, you can make up to sixteen saves using the memory card. This I like because it gives me a purer experience. Aspect Ratio: This is set at what it was during the original release with no option to change it. This is annoying for games like Ridge Racer 4 or Tekken 3 but, ultimately when combined with its reliance on virtual memory cards for multiple saves, I think this is intentional. When I was a teen I didn’t have the option to change the aspect ratio of my games, I was stuck with whatever it was on the disk. It’s an unusual kind of authenticity but one I can appreciate given what this system is meant to evoke. So though the option would have been nice I ultimately like this part of its design. Library: It is true that it isn’t as curated as, say, the NES Classic but at the same time I think it’s perfect for the nostalgia this system’s going for. Back in the day the PS1 was basically the wild west of game consoles with every company trying to stake a claim to a similar spot to the ones Zelda, Mario, and Metroid held on Nintendo systems. Hell, at any given time the system had twenty mascots to give you an idea of how unfocused its library could get. So games like Metal Gear Solid and Twisted Metal sitting beside Intelligent Qube and Jumping Flash! make sense. This variety and freedom led me to try out games I never knew existed on the original console - a sense of finding something new and interesting that was one of my favorite aspects of the original system. Finally, though the NES and SNES Classic consoles are sublime, you can’t play Tekken 3 on them. My advice would be to look at the list of available games (I’ll post that at the end) and see if they justify the system for you. Look And Feel: The physical microconsole is just really cool. While the power button turns the system on and off the reset and disk open buttons have been repurposed, with reset bringing you to the main system menu and disk open changing to a currently loaded game’s next disk. It’s a clever way to make what could easily have been left as cosmetic into something functional. The green and yellow led light even functions just like the original system. Even if you just wanted a statue to put on your desk at work or on a shelf I think you’d be happy with this unit. There’s only one issue I have with the physical console - it doesn’t come with a usb ac adapter. It does have the chord you’d plug the console into said adapter but unless you have one lying around you won’t be able to power the system. This is the same kind of adapter you’d use to charge an iPhone from a wall socket. System Interface: It’s true that you can’t change the interface the system comes with. Since that never really got in the way of gameplay and what is here doesn’t make it difficult to pick and choose a game to play I didn’t mind the lack of customization so much. But because it would’ve been easy and cheap to add it’s hard not to knock the system here. It wasn’t a deal breaker in my case but I can see why folks are miffed by this omission. The Controllers: While short in cord length, a thing common to all microconsoles these days, these look and feel just like original Playstation controllers. The system comes with two of them so playing with a buddy’s easy out of the box. The interface is USB so I tried using them on both my raspberry pi 3 b+ powered retro pi as well as my MacBook Air. Unfortunately the latter wasn’t able to recognize the controller but the former, after a quick new controller set up, had no problem being used. As I don’t have a PC to test it out on I can’t say for that but since this ran on a raspberry pi 3 b+ I’d be surprised if PC was incompatible. Plugging it back into the Playstation Classic it was able to play without any additional setup or issue, it just worked. The only real downside is the connectors are bulkier than normal. This was done so they’d look the same as the original playstation controller’s connectors so it does make sense. Unfortunately it also means that the controller will probably make plugging another usb device on either side of it impossible for most systems, save for the Playstation Classic. Still it’s a nice, unexpected bonus. Overall Impression: I think if this released at 40 or 50 dollars rather than 100+ this console would’ve been way better received. Its library may seem random at first glance but does a great job of capturing the same sense of variety that made its namesake so cool. Well worth picking up if you’re a fan of old school Playstation or a historian who wants a small taste of what it was like to be a gamer during that period. • A Fantastic Time Capsule of Sony's First Console.
Color: Grey
Yes I was there on Day One when Sony Launched this console which was akin to the significance of the Moon Landing for the Console Wars. Shots were fired by this little console that ruled the market, Scared Nintendo, and Sega and made Microsoft Enter the Console Realm. I do not feel the need to be a Petty Whiny Millennial who pulls their face away from their Cellphone and Bashes anything for the sheer sake of being a a Whiny Twit. This "CLASSIC" Console is a quick journey down memory lane for the people who loved the memory of these Ground Breaking Games. It provides a window to that Era when something Truly amazing had arrived. When this system came out there were no Dual Shock Controllers yet, there were no True 3D games yet, Everything current at the time was Limited to the Cartridge. Funny how when Dual shock did come around Nintendo had to answer the call with a battery powered plug in module for their single analog stick controller, and When "Tomb Raider" Showed up in a 3d World well Nintendo had to jump hurtles to copy that Formula. So to complain about limitations or scan rates is like putting a child in front of an Atari 2600 and plugging in Ateroids..You may get a comment like "..And you found this to be Fun???" Yes we did as it was what we had for the time, and this CLASSIC Console does the same thing, takes us back to that time when we were truly and completely amazed. Now its hard to Polish a Turd like the Atari 2600 "Pacman" or the console killer "ET" but thats because of the limitation of that Technology at that time. I dont Fault Sony for these games as many were made by third party Developers and to ask them to go back and re-engineer these games takes away from what made them what they were, These games were what we were taking about with our Friends, the games we were looking everywhere for (Intelligent cube was a beast to find)..and who can forget the hours spent into the night playing Final Fantasy 7? The Sony Playstation Original was the system of that decade and was responsible for many of the features you enjoy on your current systems today I LOVE THIS LITTLE GUY and yes i still have my original Playstation to this day. If you want to relive that time of the Dawn of Modern Video Gaming then do so without falling for all the Whiners and their complaints. If not, then go back to playing your Cell Phone game and being roped in to paying for an upgrade that would would have earned naturally on these games Thank you Sony for Taking the Leap. Lets hope that gamers like Myself can continue to show the Faith. ... show more

  • Very nostalgic and cool
Color: Grey
I see mixed reviews about this system, but I love it! $60 might be a little steep, but The PlayStation mini was definitely worth the money for me! the console is on the small side but it doesn’t bother me. The controllers are awesome and everything about this system is very nostalgic , yes it only comes with 20 games however if you look on amazon there are game sticks that you can get for this system which will add 100 plus games each ! My personal favorites are the “true blue minis” I’ve played all 20 games that’s actually on the system and I ran them all fine with no problems, resident evil ran very smoothly for me and I used to play it on the original system so I would notice a difference. It played the exact same as the Original. Some people are saying the games are slower or glitchy but I’ve played my system for 2 years with over 300+ games and have not had a single problem yet. Played multiple games with my friends and have had a lot of fun! Would definitely recommend this system for anyone who loves ps1 or old school games. Again I highly recommend getting gamesticks for this system so you can play hundreds of games! You can even buy a usb and get your own games if you know how to do so but I just stick to the preloaded usbs. “True blue minis” are dope. Hope this review helped and have fun! ... show more

  • It's really only worth it if you get it cheap and want every game
Color: Grey
Let me start by talking about the goofiness of this product's pricing. The MSRP might be $100, but it really isn't worth that, and retailers know that. Even buying it at Gamestop gives you a $25 in-store credit, which is why it's no surprise that I first saw this online for $75. I only bought it after other reviewer's jokes about another price drop came true, and I snagged it for $60. I don't know if the price is going to drop again, or if it will be going back up. I also recently acquired a SNES Classic, so that is what I will be comparing this to. Something I was disappointed with that I didn't see anyone else mention is the controllers. They work just fine, but they don't seem to have any rumble capability, despite some of the included games (such as Rainbow Six) having vibration options. This was a bit of a bummer, but nothing huge I guess. A problem other people seem to have is the lack of included charger. A cable is actually included, contrary to what I understood, but no wall adapter is. The console comes with 2 controllers that use USB (2.0 from what I can tell) connectors, an HDMI cable, and a charging cord. The SNES Classic came with all of the same and an AC wall adapter, but has proprietary controller connectors. The console itself is lightweight, but doesn't seem super fragile. My only real complaint is the metallic noisy springiness of the buttons, compared to the SNES Classic's solid and silent build. The SNES Classic came in simple packaging, just a box and some slots, but the PS1 Classic comes in a labyrinth of boxes. Probably unimportant, but it just seemed so unnecessary. The most common complaint that I have seen is that the games run poorly and are the PAL versions. As far as the PAL versioning goes, I am not extremely familiar with the original versions of the games included, so I can't say too much. The performance of the games was a mixed pot for me. I did notice what seemed to be a fair amount of slowdown on some of the more graphics heavy 3D games, such as Metal Gear Solid and Tekken 3. I compared MGS to the original PS1 disc running on my PS3 and Tekken footage on YouTube. Simpler games like Puzzle Fighter II and, to my surprise, Rainbow Six. Thankfully, Final Fantasy VII also seems to run well. The selection of games is rather hit or miss, but they did manage to arrange some decent variety. If you like classic fighters (Tekken 3, Battle Arena Toshinden) or RPGs (FFVII, Wild Arms, Persona), you have a nice collection for not too awful of a price. I'm surprised that more classics like Crash Bandicoot or PaRappa the Rapper weren't included, but I did see the latter included in some sort of expansion pack at a Gamestop. I know many of these were re-released as digital download remakes for consoles like the PSVita. If you only care about a few of the games, I would suggest just buying them as modern downloads. (If you don't care about RPGs, you can skip this section) In cases like Persona, future releases of the game fixed problems the PS1 version had like money problems, but I don't believe this fixed version is included. I can't fault them for that, as the SNES Classic missed a similar opportunity to fix mistakes of Final Fantasy VI's overseas muck-ups. I was pleased to see Wild Arms included, as I've heard good things about it, but finding a cheap copy has been a barrier to me in the past. Maybe Sony is dropping the price to sell out of these before they release a newer, better model, who knows. If you really want a majority of these games in one and you can get it for cheap, it's not the worst way to spend your money. ... show more

  • Really fun but no AC Adapter
Color: Grey
First things first there is NO AC Adapter however it says that on the box and you probably have one lying around. I've played a few games (Cool Boarders, Toshinden and Tekken 3) and I had fun. If you want to switch the PAL games to NTSC all you need to do is hold down Options, L1 and R1 (If you using a PS4 controller WITH the 8bitdo adapter) (You need the adapter to do this ) and you can have all of the PAL games running at 60FPS. While there aren't scanlines and other features that were included with the NES/SNES classics I say if the games run fine then that's not an issue for me. With the latest price drop of around $52-$55 dollars, I think it's a must buy (Casing and controllers probably go close to that amount of money, to begin with) Please don't listen to the haters!! What I will say is if you are looking for the same quality as the NES/SNES classic you will be disappointed, however, if you are looking for a device that plays PS1 games the way they played back in the 90s without all of the extra bells and whistles of the Nintendo classic consoles then go for it considering that this is probably the least expensive classic console on the market. Please make a PlayStation 2 classic!!! ... show more
