    • Sounds decent, noise cancellation not available in wired mode
I bought these mainly to use for watching in-flight movies and for work. I specifically chose this product because of its dual functionality as both a wireless earbud set with a plug in feature. This would allow me to use them at work, where I need to physically plug them in to a radio, and would also give me a wireless option when using my phone/tablet. The problem is that when using the physical jack, the earbuds are completely inoperable. The noise cancellation does not not work, and if you try to turn it on, it actually mutes any signal coming in on the cord. I looked in the product manual, and it does state this once you get most of the way through. However, why is this not mentioned in any reviews? This was disappointing to me, as i wanted a set of earbuds that could function with noise cancellation in both wireless in wireless applications. They advertise this as some type of feature, but why would I pay this much for earbuds that just act like a cheap set of plug in earbuds when in wired mode? Since I mostly use wired mode for most of my devices, I will be returning this product. As for sound quality, I thought they sounded pretty decent for the price range. The mids could be a little clearer, but I think the bass came through just fine. The noise cancellation also works well for low frequency droning noises, but it will not cancel out voices or higher frequency noise. There is a slight high fequency whine that you can hear while noise cancellation is active and no sound is coming in, but the threshold is too low for you to hear it over any music you would be playing. ... show more

    • Decent-to-good basics, ruined by the simple things
To get this out of the way: When working properly, I find these headphones comfortable. I think they sound fine. I'm surprised at the quality of the noise cancelling in a small package. The core headphone experience is good and I would be happy with it! But… Here's what's broken: 1. Very odd activation and deactivation behavior. Takes too long to start actually playing audio from a connected device, so I always miss the beginning of whatever is playing when switching from silence. Also too aggressively stops audio (probably to save battery life), so if the audio source isn't playing anything for just a little bit I'm subjected to the same delay the next time audio starts. 2. Unreliable multi-pairing. Whenever paired with multiple devices, audio might cut in and out despite the source being uninterrupted. In fact, this is the only multi-point device I've ever had where one device that was actively playing audio suddenly was overridden by a second audio device. For example: a phone playing a podcast was interrupted with a notiifcation sound from a computer, and then the audio did not switch back—so I was stuck on the silent source while the phone continued to play audio I was not hearing to the headhones. I had this exact thing happen in reverse as well. The infuriating unreliability of multi-point has meant far too many outright removals of paired devices to pair just one device at a time with the headphones, numerous full resets (confirmed fully updated) in order to attempt to fix, and even at its best behavior with just one paired device still the very odd and annoying slow audio starts and aggressive silencing. I wish I could return this (and another pair of Plantronics I bought for workouts exhibiting annoyingly similar behaviors!), but I didn't start really using the headphones until outside the reasonable return window. Less an outright critique and just a personal preference: I wish I could disable the smart sensors detecting my ears or the magnets in the two earbuds being connected, then trying to do the right thing. I'm sure some people like the behavior but I don't and the app gives nice customizability over ANC—it would be nice for that to be matched with options to customize or disable "smart" behavior. ... show more

    • Really nice headphones, but quirky fit
It might not be fair to give 3 stars to in-ear monitors due to fit since everyone's ears are a little different, but since there is really no easy option for consumers to get a good fit I think it's the right rating. Although it comes with three sizes of ear tips, they were slippery and didn't stay in place even sitting still. The tips fit over a very large tube and the stretches onto a tab that holds it in place (bad description I know). The net result is that the Plantronics won't accept ear tips the fit most headphones. I did find Comply Foam tips that would fit over the large aperture, and they work pretty well, but still not ideal. I'd like to see them include not only different sizes, but supply foam or a more sticky silicon tips as an option. That said, once I got them to fit and stay in my ears the performance of the headphones is excellent. The noise cancelling is so effective that it almost silences my riding mower when I'm on it. Sound quality is very, very good, and battery life is excellent. Take a moment to download the app so you can adjust the amount of noise cancelling you would like, and manage your bluetooth connected devices. ... show more

    • Excellent Value ANC Earbuds
I tested these earbuds "head-to-head" with the Jabra Elite 65e. I think the sound quality on the 65e was slightly better than BackBeat GO. The design of the BackBeat GO is much better with the flexible neckband, location of the contols, and especially the charging cord that doubles as a wired standard 3/8" headphone cord. The wired headphone cord was really important to me in my decision because neither headphone paired with my older laptop computer via Bluetooth. (The Elite 65e would pair with my laptop but only if I bought the $57 USB Bluetooth Adapter dongle.) What really sold me on the BackBeat GO was the much better fit to my ears and superior exterior noise reduction afforded by the tight seal. Elite 65e had poor noise reduction. The level of noise reduction from ANC was about the same on both of the units. It was the mechanical design of the BackBeat GO that was highly superior.
