In many ways, Planet Bike began as a social experiment that dedicated itself to doing business in a different way. Instead of being just another company that develops and sells products with profit as its end goal, Planet Bike wanted to help bring about positive change for people, their communities, and the environment. Despite being a simple machine, the people at Planet Bike have always believed that the bicycle has great potential to help improve the world and the lives of the people in it. From the start, they have embraced an alternative corporate purpose which seeks to help get more people on bicycles by making communities friendlier places for the self-propelled. By donating 25% of company profits to causes that promote and facilitate bicycle usage, Planet Bike hopes to make an impact. Social experiments aside, Planet Bike was born from the heart of a cyclist with a goal of making innovative, high quality, and practical bicycle accessories. Simply put, they strive to design and develop the best bicycle products in the world. In the company's short ten year history, they have made important product innovations within the bicycle industry. Advancements include the 4-line computer which is now a standard in the industry and the world's first self-contained HID light. Not bad for a company that ten years ago started as a one man operation. Today, while still a small company, Planet Bike continues to evolve and improve their product line with the goal of always striving to build accessories that make it easier for people to ride their bikes. Since 1996, Planet Bike's financial support of the grassroots bicycle movement has totaled $500,000. By 2010, they have made a goal to donate $1 million to organizations that are dedicated to making America a friendlier place for cyclists.

  • Well made, easy-to-install and highly compatible bicycle rack.
Color: Black
I put this rack on my everyday commuter bike and use a single Avenir Excursion Large pannier with it. I store my bike only partly protected on my front porch, and it has been on from September until March. Installation: I've installed a few types of racks on bikes, including the Ibera PakRak and an old style non-adjustable steel rack. This one was very easy. Once you have the bottom stays attached near the axle, you just attach the upper stays and bend and slide until the rack is level. I had to use p-clamps to attach the upper stays, and they have presented no problems. Durability: This has been on bike and used several times a week for the last 6 months, and it still seems nearly new. It has minimal scratches and no noticeable corrosion. It is also surprisingly light given how solid it feels. Fitment with fenders: My bike has 26"x1-3/8" road tires and I have SKS Longboards installed. There is plenty of space to fit fenders beneath the rack with these wheels. Conclusion: This is a great, inexpensive rack that will work with most panniers and fit on most bikes. It is easy to install and seems long lasting. Unless you really want the Topeak mount system or you need something that will hold a lot of weight for touring, etc., then look no further than the Eco rack. ... show more

  • Just the right size for a youth's mountain bike
Color: Gray
I had originally purchased this rack for my bike but we found it fit our grandson's bike better, being a tad shorter than I needed to carry my cargo trunk. It's perfect for a youth sized mountain bike, the struts are adjustable, and it comes with attachment straps if, like our case, your bike doesn't have rack anchor points built in. While the frame straps that came with it are sturdy, pvc covered, rounded edged metal, and fit a youth's bike, they weren't large enough for my street cruiser frame. (Missed it by an inch) But the grandson is very happy with it so it all worked out! We forgot to get a picture before we dropped his bike off, but will update when we get a chance. We attached a milk crate to it with metal duct hanger and now he can take all his dinosaurs and video games to his friend's house. We've told him he can't take the cat. ... show more

  • It works for what it does.
Color: Gray
I installed this on my Cannondale Quick hybrid. Installation was straightforward and the rack is sturdy and fits securely. Pros: --The rack is easy to install on a standard modern bike frame, and could be done even by someone who doesn't have a great deal of experience at bicycle maintenance. Some tools (an Allen wrench certainly, vise grips and/or end wrench helpful) will be required. --The rack is very sturdy. Once securely attached, I can bang on it and it will hardly budge. I can easily lift the bicycle up by the rack without it feeling strained or having it shifting or wobbling. --The rack easily accommodates my standard panniers, and would work for most panniers, baskets, etc., that don't use some type of proprietary rail or clip system. It does not have a lot of protrusions or unusual shapes that would get in the way of attaching standard cargo carriers. --The rack, for as sturdy as it is, is quite light and doesn't even really add noticeably to the weight of the bike. Still, if you wanted it off to save the weight at some point, deinstallation and reinstallation would be very straightforward. Cons: --(Deduct 1 star) The bolts that come with the rack feel soft and won't take the nut more than a few turns up (tried with several, so was not just a single cross thread). They work for temporary use, but will need to be replaced with better bolts and nuts from an actual hardware store. Decent nuts and bolts don't cost much; they should've gone to the trouble here. --The included long bolts could be too long in some cases, protruding into and interfering with the space for the chain or derailleur. That wasn't an issue in my case but is something to be cautious of. Overall, this is a good rack that will fit a standard frame with a minimum of fuss or engineering effort, and comes at a very reasonable cost. Bolts and nuts are cheap, but do plan on buying them if you get this. There are several adapters included for more unusual installations. As I didn't need any of them, I can't speak to their quality or usefulness. ... show more
