Simple to use. Incredibly useful whether adding a long top shot or filling an entire reel . It is very gratifying to fill a reel exactly how you want it. To some degree you can adjust tension and it is quite clever in how it reduces wits when filling a spinning spool. I am gradually working my way thru my rods and getting them set up for me. It’s obvious but as you use this of course you think about fishing but you also really notice the reel. I found a loose screw on a Penn torque while filling the spool..     • I thought i was getting a new product
As far as the line spooler goes, it seems to work fine, I just spooled a reel with it. My major disappointment is this was obviously a return, the seal was broken on the box and the tool was dirty. I could go through the hassle of returning it but it functions and it going to sit in the garage until i need it again. If i bought it used at a yard sale for a bargain i would have nothing to say, but i paid full price for a new item. ... show more

I bought the version that is metal and self contained. The other style clamps onto your rod and is somewhat unstable. This item you mount your reel on to this and spool your reels quickly and correctly. It does take a little bit to get used to using, but once you have the basics down you will wonder how you ever did without it. It is a little pricey, but worth the cost when you learn how to use it correctly. I do want to mention that when re-spooling excess line back onto a spool that the line does not do level wind, rather you have to use your finger, or a friend to spread the line evenly. It may be an inconvenience for some, but it makes sense since spools are not designed to evenly wind the line during re-spooling. This a great time saver, and while some reviews state that it is not easily transported, it does compact into a manageable size, enough to carry. ... show more

    • With a little tweaking......
The spooler assembled easily and the instructions were easy to read...but.... when it came time to put the spool of line in the holder I had to enlarge the holes so the holder (the two beveled pieces that are supposed to fit in the holes of the spool) would actually hold the spool straight and not flip flop all over the place. I only gave it four stars. Should have given it 4&1/2. Directions are good but there are some finer points that aren't mentioned in the instructions. Would suggest you watch the videos on YouTube before you use it. There is a bit of trial and error involved. Suggest you practice with it before using it on the reel you're going to spool. I would buy it again but its construction should last a lifetime. ... show more

I had problems with it not holding the spool of line very well. I have spooled 3 reels with it. It does do the job but is clumsy feeling.

This device was just what I needed to change out line on my 7 Okuma low profile Kokanee reels. Easy to assemble and smooth operation. I like the fact you can adjust the line tension when spooling new line on a reel. I’d highly recommend.
