Does a great job of clamping onto the rod without any risk of scratches or damage. I also like how it can accommodate both wide and narrow spools. The arms that hold the reel are rounded and provide enough resistance and control to prevent the spool from spinning freely - this is good so that the spool stops when you stop reeling. This device is amazing to use, I had to string up 13 new catfish rods as well as 4 bass rods. This line holder made that so much easier and allowed to get a much better balance to the line being spoiled onto my reels. I used the regular size spools all the way up to a 1500 meter spool of 80lb test braided line, it handled everything with ease. I was surprised at a time when quality products cost a ton more, this didn’t. I change my fishing line often. I put this purchase off forever not seeing the value. Well I was wrong. This helped in eliminating line twist and especially, becoming the 3rd hand. The product is of high quality with multiple ways to set up how to place the reel of string.     • Inconsistent rotation
Item arrived as described and fast! Had no trouble spooling convention reels, but did have trouble with saltwater surf spinners as the rotation was inconsistent. I've tried different speeds while spooling, but it seems to stop every now and then causing unwanted twist and uneven layering. I love the convenient of the rod setup but it's frustrating every time you need to stop and rewind, is this a defect or am I using this product wrong, any suggestions? ... show more
