  • Love this unit even though it has been a learning experience
These are fairly new around here. The installation cost me 1500 on top of the purchase price. I love the fact that I only run the units in the rooms I am using. I split the system into 9- 9 -12. The 9000 models are whisper quiet and keep each bedroom at a perfect temperature. The larger unit is in my living room kithen combo area and it can be heard running. The noise level is akin to a window fan. Still way less noise than my old central air unit. The only "con:is the air conditioning can be too cold when running downstairs. I know it said I needed a 12000k unit for 500 square feet and too cold I guess really wouldn't be a complaint for most people, lol. The heat was perfect while it was cold. The costs are also much cheaper than my central air. Now for the only cons I can see to purchasing this and it would not prevent me from purchasing again. 1. I had to purchase longer line sets, it really doesn't make clear that the line sets that come with it aren't long enough if you are running units from a 2 story condo. I had to purchse 2 more at a cost of about 80 each. 2. The outside line set covers they sell here to go with them? Don't bother. They are expensive at about $60 a set and still weren't enough to cover my outside lines. I have done some research and am having the seamless guttering person out to run matching colored downspots to cover them. They willl blend in much better and look much tidier. If your siding is a common color you could go to a home improvement store and buy down spouts yourself for about $10 apiece. ... show more

  • All that and more.
We had two of these installed in October, the house we bought had propane heaters mounted on the walls and while they are very efficient (I suppose) they were not at all attractive or safe for a disabled brother. The day the install was finished the temps were in the mid 90s (gotta love Virginia) My room was COLD when I got home, Mid 50s females like that. We have one unit on either end of the house, one up and one down each. The water was flowing from the pipe, from dehumidifying, and the house was really comfortable. The next week, it got pretty chilly, so we switched to heat, and they kept the house comfy, my bedroom and my brothers are above and below he keeps his room at about 72 and mine is kept about 65. we had some actual cold weather and they kept it right up. They did hit the defrost mode a couple of times, but it was 6 degrees and they came right back into heat mode. one of the non-bedroom units is in a sunroom we are remodeling, and the new windows help a lot, there is little or no insulation, (getting that taken care of as soon as the taxes get done) but it keeps it tolerable even in extreme, well above freezing anyway. I found a HVAC installer that put them in for me, with both units and installed, we saved about 4,000 over the lowest quote we got, and 7,000 over the highest. ... show more

  • Poor warranty customer service
Poor customer service drives up the total price for this particular product. Poor toubleshooting over the phone caused me to have to spend $835 additional certified installer cost. Not worth the savings that get over another brand with higher customer service. I have a rental property business, so have experience with other companies. Purchased two split systems. One failed within five months of purchase. Live customer service could not help. Spoke to three reps. When asked to speak to a supervisor each stated there are no supervisors or managers in their department. Received an email address for the warranty dept - no live person. Created an email explaining the situation. Was told "More than 90% of the time, causes of the claims are due to reasons other than the quality of the product or its components"... But then stated...."the failure in my case may well be due to a manufacturing defect from the manufacturer of the compressor"....and they would not be covering it under any warranty. The unit was down for approximately one month in which time I had to buy window units. The situation required three visits from a licensed HVAC technician that spent hours on the phone with Pioneer. Troubleshooting was a nightmare. They misdiagnosed the issue, sending out a circuit board which didn't fix the problem. Then sent out a new compressor. Never once did this company state to our tech that the circuit board was a first attempt and may not work (as they later stated in their email). Additional bills of $835 were incurred during this process as well as an awful customer experience. Once warranty rep sent his email, I sent two additional notes requesting the name, email address and phone number of the VP. I was quickly told that she travels around to the various manufacturing plants and would not be able to help so the information would not be provided. I asked one last time and was told that my case was closed and there was nothing else they would do. Told me to refer to the warranty manual if I had any additional questions. Lastly, they would not answer any additional concerns/questions on this topic. From there I researched the company online, got the VP and President's names and email addresses, sent them each a note that included my phone number. I requested an email or phone call back to discuss the situation and never heard back from the company. Once I went onto social media, it was clear that I was not the only one that has had such a horrific experience. In fact, the experiences of other consumers are quite similar. Take out the less than stable product from this company and look at the overall customer experience. When we complained, responses from Brian in their warranty program support team bribed us that they would pay us $100 back if we removed this review. Totally unethical warranty department. ... show more
