I burned the log the day before my fireplace was to be serviced. The technician said all the previous creosote was gone. I did have to start a fire under it, as I could not get it to burn on its own, but it did the job.

Overall a good value for the price (bought the 3 pack) and does work as well as others in this category. A few things to note with all these types of products if used in a fireplace: 1. start a fire and then add-on before fire dies down about 30 min into it making sure it's still hot enough to fully ignite and burn the chemicals (you can leave the log in box just open the top to make sure it doesn't create a brief vacuum unexpectedly) 2. MUST open windows and make sure you have adequate ventilation to not inhale any of the chemicals/gas being released especially if your fireplace does not have doors that close 3. follow-up with additional wood in same session to make sure all chemicals burn properly and that they actually go up the chimney and do their job 4. clean-up all ash out of the fireplace next day carefully as to not inhale any particles and dispose of it in the garbage 5. use additional logs once a month throughout winter/fireplace season and follow same instructions above Happy winter everyone! ... show more

We use a woodstove as our primary heat in the cold seasons, usually resulting in cleaning out the pipes at least once if bot twice in a season. This last year I used this product twice and we never had to take the pipes off to clean them!! Definitely worth the price!

I didn't know ahead of time that you'll need to light a fire and keep it going for half an hour before you put in the creosote buster log. This could be a problem for someone who is getting ready for the winter but hasn't gotten their wood ready yet. I was extremely happy I bought this after I used it. I left the damper open full and the next morning I found enough soot to fill my largest coffee mug. So if all that was up there Im assuming I probably should have gotten to this sooner to knock down the creosote. ... show more

This product works well but definitely needs an alert for the amount of heat generated. I have an old Fisher "Mama Bear" stove that we have used for 40+ years but still in excellent condition. I've built some hot fires before , but have never had it as hot as this chemical log produced. Per instructions; you're supposed to allow the fire to burn with the air flow unrestricted untill the entire pack is incinerated. After about 30 min I had to shut the dampers completely. A thermometer not far from the stove made it to 90° and was steadily increasing. Normally the thermometer , with a hot fire rarely gets above 80° . I was seriously concerned with the possibility of materials close to the stove combusting and creating a house fire. PLEASE be careful, VERY careful, when using this product. I am not a novice and have used wood heat for over 40 years and to say that this was the hottest fire in our stove and that the fire was exceedingly , dangerously hot would be an understatement. Friend, it creates an blazing inferno within a confined area ( be it in a stove, an insert, or fireplace) it's nonetheless, still within your home. PLEASE be careful !!! ... show more
