  • Not just for pigs!
Size: Large Color: red
I raise a number of animals on my homestead - but pigs are not among them. I breed chickens, which means that I have roosters to contend with. If you've ever had to deal with an aggressive rooster, you know how difficult that can be - especially after their spurs come in! I've used lots of things as shields, including buckets, bucket lids, lids from storage bins and sheets of cardboard. None of them work tremendously, as they aren't really meant to be handled this way. When I saw this pig sorting board, I figured I'd give it a try. It works very well! The handle openings along three edges of the board are easy to grip and that, combined with the relatively light weight of the board make it really easy to handle. The board is VERY sturdy, so I have no concern about a rooster getting through it. The included paddle makes it very easy to guide the rooster in the direction I want him to go. The rattling noise should help in training the rooster to move along. This sorting board should last me a lifetime! While it wasn't inexpensive, it wasn't overly costly either. And, what price can you put on protection from an angry rooster's spurs? ... show more

  • Solid, easy to use
Size: Large Color: red
We raise Kune Kune pigs, and although they are relatively small and quite even tempered, sometimes they don't want to go where we WANT them to go. We've been using old plastic signs as sorting panels, but they are difficult to grip and not really strong enough to guide a pig bent on heading a direction we don't agree with. When I saw this sorting panel, I just knew I had to try it. It absolutely did not disappoint. The paddle, which we don't generally need, is still close at hand, stowed conveniently on the back side of the panel in a slot. It has weights in the paddle part that make quite a bit of noise to catch the pig's attention. The panel isn't exactly light weight, but I find the multitude of handle grips along the top and side allow me to easily balance the panel with both hands. With the paddle mounted on the back, I can even bump the panel with my knee to make a rattling sound to get the pigs' attention. The size and heft give me a sense of safety in knowing there is something more substantial between me and the pig than a flimsy plastic sign. This panel is WORLDS better than what we are using and it's already become a valued tool in our pig handling toolbox. ... show more

  • Lightweight, Durable Sorting Board for Livestock Handling
Size: Large Color: red
This pig sorting board is well made, lightweight, and easy to handle while still feeling sturdy and durable. It works great for guiding pigs and other livestock safely. This could be used on the farm or at a livestock show. The dual sided design is very useful. The smooth edges help prevent injury. The included rattle paddle is a nice addition and helps move animals without direct contact, which reduces stress. I also really like that the paddle can be stored in the board. This helps keep everything together so that it is ready for use when needed. I received the large panel and I am using this for moving medium sized breeds of pigs. This does the job of helping to control their movement while also giving me a barrier between their teeth and my leg should one of them decide to swing their head when near me. Since it is plastic, it is easy to disinfect. However, for scrubbing dirt off you may need a brush as it has a textured design and is full of grooves on the side that holds the paddle. Overall, this is a practical and reliable tool for pigs, goats, sheep, and other livestock. A solid choice for daily use and show environments. ... show more

  • This Is a lifesaver, literally
Size: Large Color: red
The media could not be loaded. Admittedly, I did not get this for pigs, but after testing it out I am quite certain it would work great for that reason as well. I however have a goat situation lol. And honestly I feel like this is the only thing keeping me alive at this point haha. I do animal rescue and occasionally besides just native wildlife, I also end up with some domestics temporarily, as well as displaced livestock. Generally they have health issues and almost always have behavioral issues on top of that, making them hard to place in a standard home, so relegating them to temporary or permanent residence in a sanctuary like mine Anyway, one particular goat, likes to go after my kneecaps. It's become a fun little hobby for him, I'm not sure why, but suffice to say that I am certain I am not the first one he has tried to go after in this way, and it's not an injury I wish to relive anytime soon. I already had one knee injury, I don't need to hurt that one again, or damage my one good knee that I have left. So I've been using a piece of plywood like a caveman trying to put a piece of log in between me and some Apex predator. Except for the apex predator is a small Nigerian dwarf goat with a taste for rage And I am 110 lb chick That feels like I am fighting for my life whenever I have to move him between my different containment areas since I am not set up as a long-term care facility, and in more of just a halfway house situation, so all of my setups are geared towards being as neutral as possible for serving the widest amount of animal species that pass through here. If this was my personal goat, I would have to design a protection labyrinth, but since he will only be with me for 3 months, instead I found this device and figured it's a way better deal lol. The plastic material is nice and light, which makes it easy to carry. You could use it upright as a sort of body shield if you have a jumping animal or taller animal like an emu for example. Yes I also sometimes end up with those and would like to protect my face as well. So this will get a lot of uses across the board. Or you can use it horizontally as intended then you can kind of walk with it while still seeing the animal. It's got the orowing boat oar looking device which is incredibly handy. It connects into the board itself which is convenient so it's not easily loss and you can quickly snap it back in so you can have a free hand again when you are out doing stuff in the field or barn. But it makes great for gently encouraging an animal to go the direction you want them to go, without risking hurting them like with most other types of sticks. The bright color is also really good for assisting in training because I am using that color to signal things that they need to be mindful of, pay attention to, and watch for. No matter how short-term they are here, training signals are an important part of their introduction and processing, and it keeps them safe as well as the volunteers safe and efficient with their day. Besides just as an impact point, the board is also a visual barrier, which I find lessons the likelihood of an altercation as well. When they see your legs they can try to bite or hit you out of protective instinct, but a big board moving near them just feels like a fence line that most animals are probably used to interacting with and feeling is benign to them. For me the safety this gardeners is absolutely worth the investment. It's going to be used every single day. And I will absolutely replace this whenever I need to and probably also get a second one here soon also. It's been invaluable just within the first few days of having it, and really helped get things running a bit smoother around here. ... show more
