  • Awesome new castle set for Pre-K!
PicassoTiles 60 piece castle themed magnetic tiles set is quite nice. I have been teaching Pre-K for over 10 years and have purchased 146 sets of magnetic tiles from Amazon thus far with 20 of those from PicassoTiles. Let's compare this set to some others. These tiles are standard sized and fully compatible with your standard sized collection. I consider this a stand alone set as there are enough pieces here to build a decent sized castle for play. Let's look at ad accuracy first. The company has done well to depict what you can actually build with this set. They have kindly added a 60 piece count breakdown which is also accurate. Pictures show inside and outside print on tiles and possibilities for structures. Nice. Let's break down exactly what pieces are included. Here is what you will receive: 21 double side specialty printed indoor/outdoor squares 10 single side specialty printed floor/terrain squares 3 double side specialty printed isosceles triangles 6 double side specialty printed equilateral triangles 3 double side specialty printed half squares 3 double side specialty printed pass through/cut out arched windows 1 double side specialty printed indoor/outdoor trapezoid 2 single side specialty printed flooring/terrain trapezoids 7 single side specialty printed fence/castle top pieces 2 single side detail printed figures/people 1 wand 1 scepter Let's look at aesthetics here. I love the double sided indoor/outdoor structure building pieces. These indoor/outdoor house/structure type pieces are wildly popular with my 3-5 year old students. We tried out the gingerbread house and Christmas cottage from PicassoTiles during the holidays. Those are equally well done with awesome play potential and were used and loved daily. Our PicassoTiles Pete the Cat house and figures stayed on the shelf for months and never lost their appeal. The two people/figures included in this set have fully rotating, bending and articulating limbs. Crown/helmet does not remove which is great for the classroom. The tiny wand and scepter will soon be lost in the classroom but will be a fun accessory while they last. Let's briefly look at magnetic strength. To test strength I dangle a line of squares from a single square to see how many it will hold. All my 150+ sets over the years range between a very weak 4 tiles to a very snappy 8 tile line. The vast majority of brands fall into the 6-7 tile range which I consider average. PicassoTiles tests have had varying results with earlier sets purchased as far back as 2019 testing out at 5 tiles. Within the last two years they have tested in the 6-7 tile range. This set tested out multiple times at 6 tiles which is average/slightly below average magnetism. These tiles are middle of the road with magnetism. I have noticed over the years that some tiles have slightly out of square sides when I dangle a line of squares down as they don't hang straight. As seen in my picture of these tiles up against the edge of the box, these sides are slightly out of square, resulting in a slightly lower magnetism test. It is quite common and these did still test out average and will build fine structures. Magnetism does matter as your students will be able to build higher with less frustration which leads to longer play/socialization and deeper play levels. I consider magnetic tiles to be one of the best learning manipulatives for 3-5 year old students. They are one of the few toys that stay out on the classroom shelf the entire year. Magnetic tiles are the focal point of our building area. These are open-ended, STEM fostering resources that promote social skills and imaginative play. Add some cars, people, drift wood, animals and the like to see a whole new realm of creativity unfold. PicassoTiles is one of my top choices for new, innovative products. If I had to pick 3 companies with engaging, new, up to date fun tiles for Pre-K they would be PicassoTiles, CreateOn and Tile Town. I look forward to seeing what this company comes up with for products in the future. I am hoping for more literacy supporting sets for learning like perhaps some fairy tales! PicassoTiles sets make great gifts, especially for early childhood educators :) Teacher and student tested and approved. Ages 3+ ... show more

  • Pricey But Cute
This is a review for the PicassoTiles Princess Castle Theme Magnet Tile Building Blocks 2 Action Figures Magnetic Construction Toy Double Sided Printing Education STEM Learning Playset Fantasy Adventure Boy Girl Age 3+ PTQ04: I ordered this castle set for my grandchild who is 3.5 years of age. The playset is very well made and comes in a nice box that can be used for storage. The details on the pieces are colorful and look great. The magnetic feature is excellent and all pieces attach to each other well. There are two characters included that resemble Lego figures. Currently (at the time of this review) there is a 50% off coupon on the set which is priced at just under $120.00. I wouldn’t pay full price for this set. Although I am a vine reviewer and do not get charged for the item, the taxes on this are enough that I’d say I’ll pay closer to what it should be priced at. This price may be temporary as I notice some sellers over estimate the fair market value for vine. I’d expect to pay $30-40 for a set like this one. It’s nice, but I can find comparable for much less. For the price, I deducted a star. ... show more

  • Worth considering if kids like to build according to tile design & like castles
The media could not be loaded. We have a LOT of magnetic tiles and I must say that this is the nicest castle set I have seen. Almost all the tiles (except floor and parapet) are printed on both sides with indoor and outdoor scenes. The printing designs are colorful and exquisite for magnetic tiles. There is a good selection of shapes to build a castle and two people and two accessories. One person looks like it’s supposed to be a princess with a pink outfit and crown (although no hair is visible). There is also a knight. I wish the princess was slightly more princessy but that is my only complaint. The people have magnetic feet and are 3 dimensional unlike many figures in magnetic tile sets which are 2D. An idea book is included. The tiles have good magnetism and are compatible with usual magnetic tiles. Picasso is a well known brand. If you are not familiar with magnetic tiles, they contain magnets encased in plastic which allow structures built with them to stand. The structures do fall down so the learning that comes from these also draws from emotional handling this and learning and problem solving for building future structures. These magnets appear fully encased in plastic and I cannot pry the sides apart to release the magnets. This is important because swallowed magnets have been fatal. Still, magnetic tiles have not been out long enough to know how time and play will affect them, so bringing magnetic tiles into your house is to make a long term commitment to inspecting them and monitoring their integrity. Take note that the smaller pieces in this set are small enough to be choking hazards. Magnetic tiles are notoriously expensive and this is a high price for 60 tiles. Whether they are worth that amount depends on how your kids use magnetic tiles. If they simply build big structures without regard to pattern or color, then you can find larger sets of plain tiles for a lot cheaper. However, if they build and play according to the design and are enamored with castles, then this set is worth considering. It is stunning and the characters add to the fun. ... show more
