  • Not powerful, but a great starter engraver - works well with practice
This is a great combination of quality and price. It's definitely not the most powerful, but very simple and intuitive to start using. The instruction manual isn’t up to date, but honestly, I don't understand the complaints. If you're getting a laser engraver, just do a little reading. Installation: - Connect the legs to the frame (it’s simple). If you’re working with thin objects, use the smaller legs; you don’t need the tall ones. - Attach the laser engraver head with one bolt on the side (this step is in the instructions and also pretty simple). You’ll be doing this more than once: cable connection on top, laser on the bottom. - Connect the cables - just look at the picture. They’re all different, so it’s hard to mess up. - Put a plate under it unless you want to engrave your desk too. - Connect the engraver to your computer. - Turn it on. - Install LightBurn or LaserGRBL (my choice - free, simple, and lots of community support). Execution: Load a picture and run it. By the way, the included instructions recommend settings for the software and different materials. It takes some practice - don’t stare at the laser, and definitely keep your fingers out of the way! It worked as expected on multiple materials. I even achieved photo-quality engraving on metal. Overall, I’m really happy with the product, but it does require some prior experience or a willingness to learn. If you want something fully secure and ready to go right out of the box, you’ll need to pay at least 5x more for a name brand. ... show more

  • Very inexpensive... and not in a good way.
Between AI generated reviews repeating the listing and people who haven't used a laser before, there are some pretty wonky reviews for this product. So, up front -- I'm not new to lasers, so I'm speaking from experience across a wide price range of comparable lasers. First off, I was really shocked at their ability to make and sell this laser for what it goes for. They must be making a staggering number of them, even as many corners as they've cut, to ship these around the world and make any money. Kudos for that. (And, as this identical unit is sold by literally dozens of other companies, that's clearly the case -- mine even came with a manual for one of the *other* companies!) There's some very clever engineering trade-offs made to keep costs down. That said, I think they trimmed it just way too far down, and (most egregiously) are completely misrepresenting the unit in the listing. I'll talk about the latter first, but want to touch on the former. The listing is, frankly, confusing. There are places it refers to this as a 5w and 10w machine ("formidable 5000mW (10W) output power "), for example. For the record, its a quasi 5w machine using two 2.5 watt lasers. That's not great, but it is how a lot of very low cost laser modules work these days. The listing makes a lot of claims about what a 5 watt laser can do, and most of them are just plain ridiculous. You can engrave wood relatively well -- at least some woods. You can cut very thin wood, if you do it *very* slowly. The claimed speeds are theoretical maximums, you may end up cutting at 20-30mm/minute to get through 3mm ply. You're not cutting anything thicker. You're not cutting acrylic. You'll even struggle to engrave a lot materials. If you know 5w works for what you need, great. But there's no justification for them making ridiculous claims. The unit is friction-driven using wheels running on the back side of GT2 belts. That's... clever, if kind of dumb. You can't really move the laser head even remotely as fast as they claim without it slipping. Cheap, clever, but only effective at low speeds. The documentation is non-existent but it isn't all that complex to set up. Unlike higher end lasers from reputable companies, they don't really call out how dangerous open lasers are to use, and ... well ... I wouldn't trust the "safety" glasses they include. Buy a properly certified pair. And yes, they'll cost as much as this machine. Or at least spend sixty bucks and buy an enclosure. In short, I think its amazing they can sell these for what they are selling them for. But be aware you're buying the absolute cheapest possible combination of parts that can reasonably move a laser around that has the least power they can to make enough marks on wood to make selling it as a laser engraver not an outright lie. And it's going to skimp on everything -- quality, speed, safety, etc -- to do it. It's perfect for what I needed -- a unit so cheap as to essentially be disposable, for testing some stuff that would likely ruin one of my other lasers. I'm not sure it's good for much more than that. Spend twice as much and get a real entry-level laser that isn't cutting quite so many corners. ... show more

  • Great value laser engraver
This is just a fantastic little laser engraver. I got it to be able to cut out and engrave some smaller items and projects around the house, but I was not planning on using it very heavily. It is really easy to Stow away when not in use due to its small size in the included back boards do a great job at preventing the laser from going anywhere it shouldn't. Set up an assembly of the laser engraver is relatively straightforward with a decent included instruction book. It does not come with control software but does work with other third-party common laser engraving software like light burn. The laser is powerful enough to cut through thinner sheets of wood to laser cut things that you may want out. The only thing i do not like about this laser engraver is there are no included end stops. You have to tell the laser engraver that it is at the origin in order for it to accurately do a cut if you don't center it correctly then your cut will not come out correctly. Other than that, this laser engraver is fantastic and is beyond an excellent value for someone who is looking to use it relatively infrequently, i highly recommend it. ... show more

  • First one owned.
This is a very cool product. This is the first one we have ever had laser engraving machine machine is totally new to us, but we are learning this thing choose through wood like nothing. It is so cool to watch an action. It definitely stinks like Burnwood, though, which is not a problem because it smells good, still learning but so far so good and this is a great beginner kit and laser, engraving machine worth the money ... show more

  • Ok, But I would Look Elsewhere
This laser engraver is ok but doesn't work as well as it should. It's supposed to be compatible with both LaserGRBL and Light Burn for macOS, but I could never get it to work properly with Light Burn. I would recommend sticking with one of the major brands for a little more money such as Longer RAY5 or XTool. ... show more
