  • You get what you pay for
These are $40 headphones, they aren’t mind blowing. I was hoping that these things would punch above their price range, but I’d say that these are worth $40, and not a dollar more. There’s nothing wrong with the build quality, if anything it’s more than I expected, but headphones are for listening to audio which I don’t enjoy doing with these. First, the ear cups are not the most comfortable, they’re shaped odd and my small ear barely fits in. Second downside, the biggest one, is the sound quality. It sounds muffled when listening to music. I’ve heard other say this has a neutral sound stage, but to me it sounds overly bass heavy, and the mids and highs are drowned out as a result. I think this is likely due to the closed back design, but I’ve never heard such a muffled closed back headphone before. That really makes it hard for me to like or recommend these, since relying audio signals clearly is the #1 job for a pair of headphones. One other thing to note is that these headphones fit loose, as in they’ll fall off your head if you tilt your head forward. I have a pair of 12 year old HD 598s that have a tighter fit than these things. Overall though I’d still give 4/5 simply for the price, high build quality, and okay audio quality. If you need a pair of cheap headphones that sound better than AirPods, and are built well, then this pair would be acceptable. If you’re looking for the best price to audio quality headphones, then I wouldn’t recommend these. ... show more

  • Good price, but not so good performance
For $24 used, these headphones are not bad. I was looking for headphones that were not particularly noise isolating, but crisp in terms of frequency ranges and these were not the headphones I was looking for. The bass is extremely good, but it does sound a bit muddy in flat equalization at higher volumes. The treble/mids were not fantastic, but acceptable. The bass on flat eq is much punchier than than the treble and highs. The highs were underwhelming in frequency response, often drowned out by the large 40mm drivers that these headphones have. Update 2/19/2021: I thought it over again and decided to upgrade my rating to four stars based on two premises 1)EQ settings can be changed per your desired setting, so this is something that you can work with in terms of the drivers.. 2)The headphones, even at normal eq levels, are amazing once you get acclimated to them and accustomed to them. It takes time listening to lobsided frequency responses, but it is really effecting my judgement in terms of what I should expect out of better OEMs. Do not get me wrong, these are still really good transitory OEMs, but I would not use them for precision, but accuracy in personal use and customized EQ levels, sure. At $25.99 from some vendors, that price is a steal for nice sanitary, barely used and minorly scuffed headsets. I found the material and build quality to be simple, but painful to wear for long periods of time. The ear muffs cover my ears completely besides my ear lobes and for perspective, I'm a large and tall guy with a large head, so that's not too concerning to me. I bought two pairs of these used for $24 and I feel like I got what I paid for -- an intermediary stop gap between cheap OEMs and professional quality OEMs. There is a lot to be desired in terms of the crispness of the driver material and the driver materials are somewhat questionable in this headset. I recommend that you purchase these at your discretion with these ideas in mind: -Flat EQ is bass heavy -These will get uncomfortable after fifteen minutes or so of wearing -Mids and Highs suffer at expense of Bass response ... show more

  • It's a hidden gem maybe, but...
These SHP6000 are competitively price compared to premium brands, they feel and sound good... And yet I'm disappointed. The sound quality feels just a bit muffled but that has happened naturally to absolutely every single pair of headphones I've ever owned; it has taken me a few days of continuous use to get used to them, and I actually expect that my headphones (regardless of them being earbuds or over-the-ear) to be bass heavy since I listen to thrash metal mostly [this is a concern for many buyers and for a good reason since mid and high tones are muffled compared to low tones, but it isn't for me]. The magnets are neodymium ones, it includes a 6.3 mm adapter, the cable is insanely long and the cushions are very soft and they swivel onto the back part of the speakers so they can fit better people's heads. On paper, these SHP6000 should have been the definitive (over-the-ear) headphone purchase for, hopefully, two years at least since I don't have the money to go for professional headphones. Yet I found them to be the most uncomfortable headphones I've ever used: since I must wear far-sighted glasses because I can't quite see anything without them, I tried them and I had to take them out 10 minutes later. The speakers pressed the part that hangs from the ear in a weird way against my head and I had to constantly move the headphones and pray for finding an appropriate position. Then I took out my glasses and tried to wear them in a different position... All of this to make my eyes hurt a lot and feeling a bit dizzy as if I was wearing glasses for the first time in my life. If you wear glasses or don't have the chance to try them on for a bit and decide for yourself, then avoid them. Full stop. All I can say is that they are very promising headphones. The specs on the Philips page are very good, it feels like it's been built properly and the sound could be everything I could expect for what I listen to [I insist: I expect bass-y headphones], but I have to warn you if you wear glasses. I have fairly big ears so I generally can't find speakers that are big enough [40 mm] anyway, but they made me feel dizzy and I hate having my eyes hurt because it's unbearable for me. At least going to bed and having them on is perfectly fine. ... show more
