I've never written a review this quickly -- or this negatively. This CD player "boombox" lasted less than 60 minutes, playing only part of a CD before suddenly breaking out in a horrendously noisy knocking sound that had me for a second fearing someone was trying to break into my house. (I'm completely serious.) When it arrived, I was disappointed in how cheaply it seemed to be made. But I was eager to give it a fair try. It performed as poorly as it appeared to have been manufactured. Oh, and after it stopped playing and gave me that fright, I tried to play another CD. But the power button, which has so little movement that it is impossible to know if you have even activated it, failed to turn the player on. This one is being returned so fast I don't even have to worry that I had thrown out the packing material. ... show more

After some research, I found the Philips to have the features she wanted with a price we could live with. She's been using it now for a few weeks and it seems to work fine.
