This Ph tester does all it claim to do and does it well. And it is well worth the price. But... According to the directions, for real accuracy, you need to calibrate the unit periodically, particularly if it has been sitting idle for a long time. I will be using it during the summer and fall, when I ferment some of our summer harvest and make vinegar. I feel I would be wise to calibrate it each year, but the chemical packets you are to add to distilled water for calibration are only large enough for one batch. That, I don't like. ... show more

I never expected a cheap instrument to be great... I was just looking for a device with a digital readout instead of trying to match a color to determine pH. I didn't need anything accurate beyond a whole number... is the pH 4 or 6? That's all I needed... so I figured that this cheap device would work for me. Wrong. I calibrated it several times, using the supplied powders, ensured all of my water was within the specified temperature, and that the powders were fully dissolved. Each time I calibrated, I would go back to check the pH of my distilled water. I would get a 7... sounds great!... until I would remove the probe for a moment... and put it back in the water... hmmm... 9??? lets try that again... 3???? Lets calibrate again... Fully calibrated... now the water is a 4... oh wait it's ZERO.... Tried it several times... found that there was no precision nor accuracy in this tester... I decided to just throw the whole thing in the trash, since it would cost more in fuel to return the device.... And out of spite... just some spite. Don't bother with this thing. It's not worth the time I spent trying to get it to read the same liquid twice in a row. ... show more

This meter comes with calibration powder and instructions on how to calibrate it. I followed the instructions but the meter is still all over the place. Even after calibrating it, the reading was fluctuating wildly in the calibration solution. Be aware that you will need distilled water and a way to measure 250ml to create the calibration solution. It's very possible that this is all due to user error, but I did not expect to have to calibrate the thing. Some of the other ones said they were self-calibrating, I believe. I haven't decided if I will keep it or not. ... show more
