OKAY. I own the President and figured i would try out the XT. There is no anti-reverse (So you can't reel backwards at all) This was strange to me, but i never have needed to reel backwards so i kept it. I got the 2500 series for some smallmouth fishing Lake St Clair ....this reel has been great! Can handle some good size fish. I would recommend, Amazon sent me someone's return as mine came taped together with scotch tape. All in all, good reel for the price...... ... show more

This reel is fantastic for the price. It’s lightweight yet feels sturdy in hand, and the carbon handle gives it a premium touch. The drag system is smooth, and casting is effortless with no line twist issues. I’ve used it for both freshwater bass and panfish, and it handled both without a problem. The retrieve is buttery smooth thanks to the 10 bearing system, and the anti-reverse engages instantly. It balances well on my rod and didn’t cause fatigue even after hours of fishing. I use sz20 reels for almost all my fishing. This small size reduced number of ball bearings so there is no advantage to the XT over the President model and it is twice the price! I have 7 President models from 1-8 years old.. all still in good operating condition. I have 1 XT model that is 6 moths old. Can tell little difference between them. All good reels but save the $$! ... show more

This was my 3rd Pflueger President xt reel. I have 2 larger one reels for bass fishing for probably the last decade that i absolutely love. When my previous trout rod and reel broke last fall, after falling off my truck, i knew i was replacing that with a Pflueger. This model has features that $400 reels have, for half the money. Super light and smooth action. I've paired several Flueger reels to several Loomis rods. The results are a super light combination that you can cast all day and not get fatigued. The drag system is excellent. I've caught numerous Steelhead and 20lb + Salmon and have yet to have any drag issues. I've used them for years without any issues. I recommend Pflueger's to all my fishing buddies. ... show more
