After reading rave reviews on multiple websites, I finally pulled the trigger on this one. I'll tell you what... I'm glad I did. I went with the 25 over the 20 for the additional line capacity. I threw it on a 7' Ultralight TFO Trout Panfish Rod with 10lb braid, and HOLY MOLY is this an awesome reel!! Obviously I'm using it for Trout, and I honestly don't think you can get a better reel for the money. Dollar for dollar, this is it. This Pflueger President reel is a big money reel at a low end price. For starters, the thing looks sharp! Looks aren't really as important to me as functionality, but I had to mention the craftsmanship. It's gorgeous! It is very light weight as well, and built with quality parts. This thing is durable, quiet, smooth, and handles everything I throw at it. Caught five fish my first day out, and they came in smooth as silk. I had a feeling I would like it when I ordered it. As I mentioned before, I had read multiple reviews about it. However, it was hard to believe it was actually that good for the price. It just IS, and I did not expect the quality and performance that I'm getting out of this! I have about 15 rod and reel combos, and this is one of the favorites now. Do yourself a favor and just buy it... It's kinda feels like finding $100 laying on the ground. It's that good in my opinion!

We ordered the reel, and waited extra time for delivery. Opened the box, and no spool was in the reel. The packaging and description clearly states that a spool comes with the reel. So disappointing.

I ordered the size 20. The reel is very smooth. The bail closes effortlessly. No play on the spool. No backwards play nice anti reverse. Just know it's a small reel. The kobe for the drag is very small. I have big hands. "2xl gloves" but I don't mind the small reel. Nice reel if ya looking for a ultralight reel.

I have been using Pflueger President reels (of various models and versions) for close to 20 years. They've all held up well for me, required very little to no maintenance (other than keeping them clean and not left outside continuously exposed to the weather). At their LIST PRICE they are a bargain for what you get - a reliable, reasonable weighted reel, that perform well and does so consistently. Obviously, at their price, they are NOT the best spinning reel one can buy. My Shimano Stratic's and Shimano Vanfords are certainly superior reels - but also cost three times as much! Whether they perform three times better than the Pfluege President model - the answer is a resounding NO, not three times better or even two times better. For somebody just getting into fishing but who wants a reliable, decent quality reel that is going to last and not disappoint, I can recommend these most highly. My only complaint with the reels is that they used to come with a spare spool - which was great as it allowed one to have 2 spools with different line on each, for fast and easy change-outs. My recommendation to Pflueger is to market spare spools (or of course, better yet to include a spare one in the box). Secondly, I would like to see Pflueger indicate on the reel the size reel that it is, in an easy to see and visible location. Since I have multiples of these reels in many different sizes, this would be very helpful. Especially for fishing trips when rods/reels are broken down for transport - it helps to avoid putting the wrong sized reel onto a rod - only to realize this after getting on the water. Because the reels themselves, physically are not too different in physical size (at least at the 3000 and below size levels), this would be very helpful and appreciated (I am assuming by others as well). But to end this, YES, I highly recommend these reels. They punch way above their LIST price point. If you find them on sale, by them in multiples!
