I planted over 500 daffodil bulbs utilizing just one of the augers with a Dewalt cordless drill and 2 fully charged 5 amp hour batteries. To my surprise the welds held even in hard-packed clay and/or rocky soil. The 2nd auger was never used since the 1st one performed well. Two cautionary notes: 1) be sure your drill is set for slow torque and not drilling speed so the soil isn't slung away from the hole. Slow speed conveniently mounds up the dirt around the hole. 2) if using the auger anywhere slightly rocky or possibly marbled with tree roots, beware and hang on to the drill up against your thigh or you'll have a dandy of a sore wrist when the auger abruptly stops dead but the drill keeps rotating. I was really excited to use these in my garden to be able to get my annuals in the ground without having to bend over. Unfortunately, even though they are the right size for my drill, they don't stay locked in when you are trying to dig a hole. I have a shorter garden auger that I use with my drill and have never encountered this issue when using that one. It could be that I just got one that wasn't properly tooled, but the bottom line is that it didn't perform as intended and was pretty much useless to me as a result. I didn't try the second one, since I didn't want to waste any more time than I already had. They'd be a good value if they worked, so maybe others will have better luck with them than I did. I'll be sticking with my shorter one. I have to get down on the ground to use it, but at least it's reliable! ... show more
