Let me explain my Star Rating: I gave this ONE STAR right out of the box. As I suspected when I ordered it, it’s made with cheap wood that is glued and/or screwed and/or stapled to form a basic “house” frame, purportedly for a large dog. Thankfully, that was not my intent, as I purchased it --- knowing that I would be making a number of modifications --- to serve as an outdoor winter/inclement weather shelter for several of the feral cats in my neighborhood. After I finished with my changes, I would probably change the rating to FIVE STARS, no thanks to the manufacturer. I’m sorry I did not take pictures to show the changes, so you will just have to use your imagination as to how it turned out. There were NO written instructions, just a “user’s manual” featuring 8 simple drawings with arrows showing the side should be attached to the front, etc. Starting off, I assembled the unit, sans top, in my living room to gather the real size and what I would need to do to make it acceptable for my original purpose. I tried screwing the plastic feet to each wooden “leg” but the screws tended to split the wood, so I ended up using my hot-glue gun to attach them. I was hoping from the picture on Amazon that the black “trim” front and back was metal, but no… just more of the soft, easily-splintered wood. So, the next thing I did was to make the structure stronger and more stable by placing 3-inch “L” brackets at all top and bottom corners. I likewise added more of these on the bottom to help keep the sides, back, and front stable. Since the cheap wood has a tendency to splinter or crack, I used my electric drill to make a hole all the way through for a short bolt, two flat washers, one lock washer, and a nut instead of using screws which could easily have split the wood. The floor is a two-piece “drop in” that would NOT keep water out if it were placed anywhere that rain or snow could be an issue, so it was important to me to somehow seal the inside to keep the moisture outside. Before I did any sealing, however, I purchased some 1/2" plywood and cut a new single piece floor to go on top of this original one. This, I covered on the bottom side with a sheet of thick plastic (like you would use for a drop cloth) to help keep the moisture out. The new plywood helped make the structure a bit sturdier for my purposes. I inserted 3” wood screws into the edges of the new floor all around the paremeter. I also added “new walls” on all four sides, using ¼” plywood which I hot glued, then bolted to the internal original walls. From there, I purchased some thin flexible aluminum insulation like they use in making windshield covers for cars. This, I hot glued and stapled to all four sides and the floor so that the cats’ body heat would be reflected back onto them when they were sleeping. I did the same with the inside of the top which can be opened or closed using the original metal fixtures. I chose closed. After that, I cut a floor-size section out of an old three-inch memory foam mattress cover and placed it over the floor. Besides giving a little bit of additional insulation, it also made for a soft comfortable place for the cats to spend their naps. I also purchased a dog bed slightly larger than the floor and placed that over the memory foam. Now, we were getting someplace. The original door opening was much too large for my cats, so when I added the above ¼” plywood on the inside of the front, I purchased a cat door to replace it. I covered the original hole with the plywood and cut a new, smaller one on the opposite side of the front. I removed the swinging plastic “door” on that one so that the kitties would be more comfortable entering and leaving. At this point, I was nearing my hoped-for FIVE STAR rating. One last thing. I placed a regular brick under each foot just to get it a couple of inches further off the ground. None of my above modifications were all that expensive, but together, they may have reached the original purchase amount of the house. However, they made a big difference in what I originally received vs. what I ended up having. The original was, for my purposes, useless; the changes made it a win-win for for my cats, I should say). As to using the original to house a large dog? Eh… no. For more reasons that I care to elaborate… no. ... show more

When I got this it was damaged. One of the walls was cracked. It was also chipped and had chunks missing out of it. Also it was not even the size I ordered. Also was missing an adjustable foot screw
